Met Gala 2014: My Best Dressed List

So I have already shared with you the battle of the pink, well it seemed wrong being a Barbie girl not to dedicate a whole post to my favourite shade, well here is my best dressed list, which was actually hard to narrow down as I thought this year’s Met Gala honouring Charles James was exquisite.

Best Dressed #1 – Blake Lively

Has to be Blake Lively for me, as the face of Gucci Première it wasn’t a surprised that she turned to the Italian fashion house for the Met Gala, and I am thrilled that it was so old Hollywood as this is when she really is at her best. Adorned with more than one million paillettes, this custom silk chiffon blush Gucci Première gown was hands down one of my favourite of the night.

I loved how it was dramatic with the cape-like train, sexy with the plunging neckline and nipped in waist, as well as being delicate in the colour and the embellishments. Add to that her gorgeous choice of statement Lorraine Schwartz jewels, her signature side-swept waves and her arm candy for the night hubbie Ryan Reynolds, who looked pretty dapper in a Gucci Made to Order midnight blue velvet Signoria tuxedo, and it makes for a stunning look.

#2 – Karolina Kurkova

I love that the Met Gala always brings out the models onto the red carpet, each year they always wearing the most daring and striking looks, and this year was no different with Karolina Kurkova in this dramatic custom Marchesa ballgown – the structure of the dress and the floral print makes this a work of art and so very Charles James and I adore it. Add the $1 million worth of Harry Winston diamonds that she is wearing and this became a look to beat.

#3 – Amy Adams

Amy Adams really has been on a roll this year with her red carpet looks, her award season was near flawless and this metallic Oscar de la Renta is another incredible look. From the autumn/winter 2014 collection this gown wasn’t custom like most of the other looks but it sure as hell looked like it was made specifically for her. The fit of this strapless gown is impeccable – I love the heart-shaped neckline, the ruched waistline and the dramatic train – and those David Webb earrings really do finish off the look.

#4 – Dita Von Teese

Wow, wow, wow. If ever there was a time for Zac Posen to shine it was at a Charles James themed red carpet, his use of drama and structure was made for this year’s Met Gala and my favourite of his looks was this fun and exquisitely crafted pale pink mermaid gown worn by Dita Von Teese. OK, so I am a little obsessed with the burlesque star but come on doesn’t she look incredible. I love how her use of red in her lippy and clutch really plays up the red hem detailing of the gown. I love this look.

#5 – Charlize Theron

It was hard to select this final spot, thank god I had already done the pink beauties, but I think Charlize Theron in her monochrome Dior Couture gown paired with a tuxedo jacket thrown over her shoulders was just a divine way to honour the White Tie & Diamonds dress code. I’ve made no secret that I love women in tuxedos, I just love it when women rock menswear looks while still being feminine and for me Charlize strikes the right balance here by pairing the tux jacket with a gorgeous flowing dress and those statement Fred Leighton earrings. Gorgeous from head-to-toe, but then again isn’t she always!!!

Honorary Mention – Diane Kruger

I couldn’t miss out my girl crush – Diane Kruger. So her look might not have been one of my favourites, I just felt her embellished ice-white Hugo Boss beauty didn’t stand out as much as some of the other gowns. It was gorgeous though, I especially loved the pleated overlay, the styling of her complementary pearl-white clutch and her forties-style chignon was one of the best hairstyles of the night. Oh and she did have the best arm candy in Joshua Jackson who looked great in a Hugo Boss suit.

Who was your best dressed at the 2014 Met Gala?

Tribeca Film Festival: Katie Holmes In Zac Posen

Who: Actress Katie Holmes

Where: At the screening of ‘Miss Meadows’ during the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival in New York City

Wearing: A dark red duchess satin off-the-shoulder Zac Posen dress featuring a bustier-style bodice, structural detailing at the hips with an over-the-knee skirt from the autumn/winter 2014 collection, teamed with matching coloured pointy heels

Verdict: As soon as I saw this look I did a double take – I couldn’t believe my eyes that Katie Holmes was wearing such a sexy frock and I have to be honest I am not quite sure the actress pulled it off.

If this dress was on anyone else like Cameron Diaz, Diane Kruger or Dita von Teese I think I would have been floored, but with Katie it just feels forced and little uncomfortable to see.

I am not saying she doesn’t look good in it, she does, but the sexy shimmer pose isn’t really her is it, and what is going on with her hair and make-up. I get that she wanted to vamp up this structured dress but her tousled bedhead hair just doesn’t quite work for me, but it is her purple eye-liner that upsets me more – what was she thinking.

What do you think – does Katie pull off this sexy frock?

Wedding Inspiration: Zac Posen’s Debut Bridal Collection

9-ZP345016

Tulle Ball gown with veiled corset bodice of Chantilly lace and draped tulle, featuring an embroidered Chantilly illusion neckline and Mikado bow belt – £1,295

One of the most important things about any bride’s wedding has to be the dress, and I am finding that it is already the most stressful part. I haven’t tried on any styles yet, I am still at the magazine and Pinterest collecting stage, but as soon as I knew I was getting married this year I have been excited to see Zac Posen’s debut bridal collection for US store David’s Bridal, Truly by Zac Posen, and it is divine.

As well as being gorgeous, just check out the tulle ball gown above with Chantilly lace and an illusion neckline, seriously dreamy, it is also super affordable at £1,195 – lower than the average price brides pay for their dress of £1,500 and it really does have that wow factor.

The collection features 7 bridal gowns to choose from, showcasing  bold silhouettes and whimsical colours – from a satin fit-and-flare gown with corset detailing and embellishments to a champagne-coloured tulle dress with a featherweight lace overlay. Then there are 10 occasion dresses that would make any bridesmaids day from classic floor-sweeping styles to elegant strapless cocktail dresses in black and midnight blue.

2-ZP285025

Crinkle Chiffon deep V-neck gown with satin covered buttons and sheer lace back – £195

There are so many gorgeous options and with prices starting at just £125 I think David’s Bridal in Westfield Stratford is going to be inundated with requests to try on these beauties, especially as most are available in sizes 0 to 26 – this collection really is for every woman!!!

We’ve been missing somewhere like David’s Bridal in the UK, I have already fallen in love with one of their dresses designed by Vera Wang, and now I have added at least four of these beauties to my very long list of dresses I need to try on. I just love that they are fashionable, affordable, and not just in traditional white – the portobello grey is a beautiful colour. But most  importantly they have the wow factor that every bride is looking for.

The collection will be available at David’s Bridal from February 6, with prices ranging from £125 to £1,295. I can’t wait to try on dresses from this collection.

SAG Awards: Amanda Seyfried In Zac Posen

amanda-seyfried-sag-awards

Who: Les Miserables actress Amanda Seyfried

Where: At the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards at The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California

Wearing: A form-fitting strapless midnight blue Zac Posen gown with a sweetheart neckline and cascading tiered layers to the skirt from the pre-fall 2013 collection, teamed with a vintage-inspired Lorraine Schwartz pendant

Verdict: I do love a mermaid silhouette, and for once it seems that hardly anyone went for this shape even Sofia Vergara opting for something different, so it was nice to see Amanda Seyfried’s gown getting all the attention.

Like with Jennifer Lawrence and Nicole Kidman midnight blue was the colour of the night, along with black, and I think a lot of people will be comparing this to Jennifer’s Dior Couture gown, and I think I have to give this fashion round to Amanda this dress just looked incredible on her.

Not only does this dress fit her perfectly, I love the drama of the sculptural tiers on the skirt, the colour against her skin, and the quirky pendant – this is one great look without looking too forced.

Do you rate Amanda’s red carpet look?
