Berlin Film Festival: Tilda Swinton In Schiaparelli Haute Couture

Tilda Swinton Schiaparelli Berlin Film Festival: Tilda Swinton In Schiaparelli Haute Couture %tag

Who: Tilda Swinton

Where: At the opening ceremony of the 64th Berlin International Film Festival for her new movie The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Wearing: A black wool tuxedo, paired with white silk chiffon ruffles and a white matte silk charmeuse man’s shirt all from the Schiaparelli Haute Couture spring 2014 collection, teamed with a striking gold cocktail ring and the Schiaparelli feathered sandal flip flops as seen on the runway.

Verdict: I love, love, love Tilda Swinton, not only is she a woman who totally knows how to work a suit, but I adore how she really does beat to her own drum by wearing the most amazing and daring fashion on the red carpet.

What I love the most about this look is how she really compliments the mannish tailoring with her slouchy posture and those regal ruffles on the blouse – it makes it chic, sophisticated, and edgy all at the same time – everything you expect from Tilda.

As well as being a fan of her masculine red carpet look, I love how she softens the impact with the styling of the striking cocktail ring and her fun barrel-curl hair-do and bright red lippy and nails, it really works to tie in the whole look.

The only thing I am not so sure about has to be those feathered flip-flops, I get that they were part of the runway look, but other than the fact her feet must have been freezing – it is winter in Berlin, the quirky footwear doesn’t add anything to this look for me. But on the other-hand I so appreciate that they are so Tilda, come on only she could pull of these sandals.

What are your thoughts on this quirky and daring red carpet look?

Women In Suits: Anne Hathaway Rocks Viktor & Rolf

Anne hathaway Viktor and Rolf Women In Suits: Anne Hathaway Rocks Viktor & Rolf %tag

My love of masculine styling on women is growing, there is something about a tuxedo jacket paired with slim trousers and high heels that I love to see, especially on the red carpet. At the weekend Madonna wore a wide-leg Ralph Lauren tux to the Grammys, which was one of my best looks, and over the past few months we have seen everyone from Kim Basinger to Julianna Margulies really show how hot the look can be.

Well this week I added another actress to the long list of women in suits to my growing Pinterest board with the lovely Anne Hathaway rocking a studded silk-lapel Viktor & Rolf blazer with slim-fit pants and a simple black tee to the Hollywood Stands Up To Cancer event.

This look from the Viktor & Rolf spring/summer 2014 collection is styled to perfection, I love the laid-back vibe of the look with the addition of the slouchy tee and the turned-up cuffs with the touch of elegance of the Lady Dior handbag and bow-front heels. Basically just a classy look that works as well as on the red carpet on a celebrity as it would to work or lunch with friends.

There has been a more casual feel to Anne Hathaway lately, maybe that’s to do with her new stylist Penny Lovell, who also works with Rose Byrne, but it will be interesting to see what the actress rocks to the Oscars in March.

Grudge Match: Kim Basinger In Ralph Lauren Collection

Kim Basinger ralph Grudge Match: Kim Basinger In Ralph Lauren Collection %tag

Who: Actress Kim Basinger

Where: At the Grudge Match screening held at the Ziegfeld Theater in New York

Wearing: A navy pinstripe Ralph Lauren Collection three-piece suit, teamed with light blue striped shirt, and a printed navy tie

Verdict: Well if you are going to work masculine tailoring you might as well go for it and work the gangster look. I love, love, love this pinstripe suit on Kim Basinger, not only is the cut impeccable but the additional styling of the slicked back hair and the chain of the pocket watch is perfection.

It is a risk opting for a suit rather than a full length frock but for me Kim is totally pulling off her mobster-inspired masculine vibe with added sex appeal by adding vibrant hot red lips.

I have gushed before about my love of androgynous ensembles and this year we have had some beauties on the red carpet. How do you think Kim’s look compares to Saorise Ronan who went for a deep purple The Kooples suit at the BFI London Film Festival Awards or the sexy Michael Kors look that Julianna Margulies rocked on the red carpet?
