Cover Loving: W Magazine’s Movie Issue By Tim Walker

W-Mag-emma-stone

It has been a while since a magazine cover actually excited me like these Tim Walker masterpieces for W Magazine’s annual movie issue featuring the top nominees ahead of the award season. Walker has snapped 39 nominees from Emma Stone, looking like a broken doll, to Julianne Moore, looking like she could be sisters with Effie from The Hunger Games, and even a very creepy Bradley Cooper dressed in a white.

There are 7 amazing covers, but for me the stand-outs have to be Emma Stone’s and Reese Witherspoon, I really love the ’70s free-love aesthetic, and seeing movie stars transformed into eccentric characters is just an another reason why Walker is a master at bridging the gap between fashion and art.

As well as the covers the accompanying editorial is just as strong with Jessica ChastainAmy Adams and Shailene Woodley looking equally eccentric. I love that magazines like W Magazine take a chance with Walker as these images wouldn’t look out of place in an art gallery, I actually think that is where they belong, they deserve to be hung up on walls.

What are you thoughts about W Magazine’s movie issue covers?

W Magazine: Jennifer vs Oprah vs Cate

W-jennifer-lawrence

Reason number 387 on why I love Jennifer Lawrence – she isn’t afraid to rock her curves on a cover of a magazine. The Oscar-winning actress, and potential contender this year for the best supporting actress gong, looks incredible wearing a 50’s style floral high-waisted Dolce & Gabbana bikini on one of the six special covers for W magazine’s Movie issue.

It isn’t often that you get to compare Jennifer against Oprah Winfrey, Cate Blanchett, who is one of my favourite red carpet stars, as well as Matthew McConaughey, Amy Adams, and Lupita Nyong’o – all chosen for their incredible movie performances over the last year snapped by photography legend Juergen Teller.

Inside the magazine, Jennifer opens up about her big trip-up at last year’s Oscars (reason 254 for loving her):

“I was at the Oscars, waiting to hear
if my name was called, and I kept thinking, Cakewalk, cakewalk, cakewalk. I thought, Why is ‘cakewalk’ stuck in my head? And then, as I started to walk up the stairs and the fabric from my dress tucked under my feet, I realized my stylist had told me, ‘Kick, walk, kick, walk.’ You are supposed to kick the dress out while you walk, and I totally forgot because I was thinking about cake! And that’s why I fell.”

As well as loving Jennifer’s cover – Cate is stunning, I love her red lippy, I have to say that Lupita in that metallic Dior dress has to be my favourite. I just love that W magazine went with an up-and-coming actress who is really standing her own against the more established names. I think Lupita will be the one to watch this award season, not only will she pick up a lot of awards but her red carpet style is going to be amazing.

Which W magazine cover are you loving? Also are you still loving Jennifer Lawrence as much as me?

Cover Loving: Jennifer Lopez For W Magazine

jennifer-lopez-w-august-2013

Wow, wow, wow – just look how fabulous Jennifer Lopez looks on the August cover of W magazine – seriously hot!!!

Dressed in Gucci, Jennifer Lopez has an Old Hollywood feel about her on this stunning cover shot by Mario Sorrenti and I love it.

I think the reason why I love it so much is because it is so OTT, this is J-Lo doing her best diva pose and she is working that feathered dress – it is just so glam and a little bit ridiculous – but so works for me. Also, not sure if it is just me, but it kind of reminds me of Elizabeth Taylor’s iconic boudoir scene from ‘Cat On A Hot Tin Roof’.

As well as loving the look, can we also discuss Jennifer’s hair and make-up? Isn’t it very similar to Emma Watson’s June/July cover? But hell, who cares I am loving Jennifer’s darker and shorter hair, those curls, surely a wig but again I don’t care, I seriously can’t wait to see the accompanying editorial.

This cover is so not what I expected from Jennifer Lopez or an August magazine, but I can tell you I will certainly be picking this issue of W up – will you?
