Editorial Loving: Vogue Japan’s Hitchcock-Inspired Beauty Shoot

Vogue-Japan-Sept-2

I have had a long love affair with Vogue Japan, granted it is harder to translate than my other international magazines from France and Italy, but come on it so worth buying just for the gorgeous and creative editorials.

Normally I pass on by the beauty pages without getting pulled in, but for the September issue of Vogue Japan this Hitchcock-inspired editorial ‘Vertigo In Her Eyes’ plays out a beautiful-yet-dramatic narrative to showcase some incredible beauty looks.

Model Patricia Van Der Vliet has been transformed into the archetypal blonde heroine, wearing a series of 1950s inspired looks, to play out scenes from some of Hitchcock’s most famous films including The Birds, Rear Window, Psycho and Vertigo.

Captured by photographer Lacey, the hyper-stylised beauty by Lisa Houghton in this editorial is breathtaking – I love the glamorous cat-eye liner, the round-tip nails and the vibrant-yet-slightly cold colour combinations, which works perfectly with the drama and suspense of the Hitchcock concept.

Are you a fan of this Hitchcock-inspired editorial?

Cover Loving: Jennifer Lawrence For Vogue

So the September issues have been a little hit and miss this year for me. I loved Katy Perry’s ELLE UK’s subscription issue but wasn’t taken with her flamingo pose on the newsstand version, I thought Glamour US played safe putting Jennifer Aniston on the cover I much preferred the Chloë Moretz editorial, and while I was a little bored seeing Sarah Jessica Parker in another gold dress on Harper’s Bazaar US, I did quite like Nina Dobrev’s awkward pose for Cosmo.

It has to be said though, other than the new-look Lucky magazine with Blake Lively in that exquisite blue Gucci coat, I haven’t really been blown me away – until I saw the gorgeous Jennifer Lawrence on the cover of Vogue US.

Since it was revealed last month that the Hunger Games star was going to be gracing the September issue I have been excited to see it – and I think Mario Testino has captured a gorgeous cover. Granted it is more of a ‘beauty’ than ‘fashion’ shot but I think it is perfection and she really is glowing.

I know for some there will be criticism that this isn’t a fashion shot, maybe a full-length would have been more appropriate for a September issue, to show off the fashion, but for me I adore the close-up shot of the actress, especially as it shows off her new shorter hair.

A few snaps of the accompanying editorial have also been spotted online, I am loving the vintage feel to them being in black and white and I can’t wait to see in print, as well as read the interview with the cover line “unguarded” I am expecting some juicy!!!

Editorial Loving: Homeland Gets Fashionable For US Vogue

Vogue-august-homeland-2

I am a huge Claire Danes and Homeland fan so I was excited when I heard that the actress would be the star of US Vogue’s August issue, however, the cover is just a little blah, which disappointed me a little until I saw the amazing editorial shot by Annie Leibovitz accompanying it.

The espionage-themed photo shoot, captured on Homeland’s set, shows Claire Danes as her bipolar CIA agent character Carrie in a high-fashion editorial spread alongside her hottie co-star Damian Lewis and I love it.

I love the concept, the staging of recreating prominent scenes and scenarios from the show, and most of all the contrast of the high-fashion styling – how amazing would it be if Carrie actually did wear Victoria Beckham on a stack-out!!!

You have Claire sprawled out on a bed wearing Narciso Rodriguez gown, admiring herself in the interrogation mirror in a Calvin Klein Collection dress that Zoe Saldana wore while promoting Star Trek, and looking a little retro in the car wearing a matching Hermès lambskin jacket and skirt.

I just wish that the cover, which only saving grace is an amazing Burberry trench coat, was more explosive and representative of the accompanying editorial.

What do you think – are you a fan of US Vogue’s August cover?

Cover Loving: Katy Perry Scores Her First US Vogue Cover

US-vogue-July-Katy-perry

So the rumours were true, Katy Perry has finally been given her first US Vogue cover for the July issue, and she looks beautiful and ethereal in an off-the-shoulder embroidered floral dress, which looks to be Valentino but is actually Rodarte, teamed with a super bold red lippy.

The singer will be opening up about her love life in the accompanying interview, according to the cover lines, but as it doesn’t go online at Vogue.com until Tuesday, June 18, so we can only wonder if it will discuss her rumoured ‘blossoming friendship’ with Robert Pattinson.

Shot by Annie Leibovitz the cover really does show how photogenic Katy Perry is, she looks incredible and I think that is helped by the simple styling and her flawless make-up that really shows off her gorgeous porcelain skin.

I really do love it, but is anyone else thinking it looks a little like Rihanna’s cover last year, which was also shot by Annie Leibovitz?

If I wasn’t already wanting to buy to see more of Katy Perry – the clever peeps over at Vogue put ‘Rebooting Balenciaga – All Eyes On Alexander Wang’ as one of the other cover lines – I can’t wait to read that!!!

Are you pleased to see Katy Perry on her first Vogue cover?
