Cover Loving: Lupita Nyong’o Nails Her First Vogue Cover

I am so pleased that Lupita Nyong’o is gracing her first Vogue cover, she really did make the 2014 award season *do you remember her white Calvin Klein gown*, and I am even more pleased that it is a great cover.

Shot by Mikael Jansson, Lupita looks incredible in this Marrakech photoshoot wearing vibrant designs by Proenza Schouler, Rodarte, Vera Wang, Jonathan Saunders, Givenchy and Prada that gorgeous red and purple print dress looks insane on her.

I think one of my favourite shots has to be where Lupita is reclining against a red velvet couch wearing a printed Rodarte gown, I love that the prints are so similar that her beauty really becomes the focal point of the picture, and I think the gorgeous Moroccan setting was just genius. So beautiful.

I think this will be the first of many major covers for Lupita and I can’t wait to see what else this gorgeous actress has to share.

Are you pleased that Lupita has scored her first Vogue cover?

Cover Loving: Diane Kruger In Hugo Boss For Vogue Germany

Diane Kruger Covers Vogue Germany july14 Cover Loving: Diane Kruger In Hugo Boss For Vogue Germany %tag

I do love a magazine cover that portrays movement, it always makes it more striking and appealing, and this is one gorgeous cover from Diane Kruger for Vogue Germany’s July 2014 issue.

Captured by Camilla Akrans, who always seems to impress me, Diane Kruger really does make a fairly boring sequinned top and skirt ensemble from Hugo Boss’ autumn/winter 2014 collection, the first designed by Jason Wu look amazing. It just shows what styling, setting and movement can do for a piece of clothing.

I also think the fresh pastel pink colour helps this cover, it really shimmers nicely, and I love the fun pose from Diane and how they’ve made the Vogue letters all quirky. I also have to say her hair slicked back and minimal make-up just add to the charm of this cover.

You might also be thinking that the look seems a little familiar to you, well that will be because Diane wore something very similar to the Met Gala, I really think if her Met Gala dress had been in this cute girlie colour it would have stood out more.

What do you think – are you a fan of Diane Kruger’s latest magazine cover?

Met Gala Buzz: Barbie Cakes Styled In Charles James

I love all the Met Gala excitement, I wish that one day I might witness it for myself, but for now I have to enjoy the wonders of Vogue and their special features. Not only have they teamed up with the cutest five-year old to showcase past great Met Gala dresses on their Instagram, you have to look they have been so cute, but they also asked cake makers to style cakes modelled after dresses by Charles James, who is being honoured this year at the Met, with the help of my favourite doll, Barbie.

How incredible do these cakes look, all of Barbie’s dresses are edible, I think my favourite has to be the classic red draped ballgown, not only is this very Charles James but so Barbie as well and the detailing in the drapes by Melissa Torres from Cake Hero is divine. I have to be honest if I lived in New York I would really want them to make my next birthday cake!!!

Another favourite has to be the Flour Shop’s Amirah Kassem’s masterpiece that features ice cream, wafer paper, white chocolate and painted in an edible metallic blue to finish the incredible off-the-shoulder ballgown. Also check out Michelle Doll-Olson from Michelle Doll Cakes who mimic Charles James’s emerald green silk satin gown from 1954 using fondant with a chocolate truffle filling and edible pearl paint – I really want a piece of that!!!

Now I love baking and I can pipe a little buttercream frosting – but these beauties are a whole other league and I adore them – but are they too pretty to eat? Nar, cake is cake right!!!

Cover Loving: Cate Blanchett In Celine For US Vogue

Vogue cate blanchett cover Cover Loving: Cate Blanchett In Celine For US Vogue %tag

It is strange that we haven’t even had Christmas yet and spring collections are already gracing covers. For January, US Vogue has gone for the gorgeous Cate Blanchett, one of my favourite red carpet stars, and she looks stunning in a Celine dress.

As well as loving the cover star, it is nice to see Céline on the cover, even though the French fashion house gets critical acclaim its doesn’t often grace covers and this arty, paint-stroke dress looks amazing,

For some, featuring Cate seems like a safe choice as a cover star, but for me her beauty means I will always pick up magazines with her on the front. As well as adoring the cover, shot by Craig McDean, I love the accompanying editorial with Cate wearing incredible looks from Dolce & Gabbana, Armani Prive and Nina Ricci.

Will you be picking up the January issue of US Vogue?

Editorial Loving: Vogue Japan’s Hitchcock-Inspired Beauty Shoot

Vogue Japan Sept 2 Editorial Loving: Vogue Japans Hitchcock Inspired Beauty Shoot %tag

I have had a long love affair with Vogue Japan, granted it is harder to translate than my other international magazines from France and Italy, but come on it so worth buying just for the gorgeous and creative editorials.

Normally I pass on by the beauty pages without getting pulled in, but for the September issue of Vogue Japan this Hitchcock-inspired editorial ‘Vertigo In Her Eyes’ plays out a beautiful-yet-dramatic narrative to showcase some incredible beauty looks.

Model Patricia Van Der Vliet has been transformed into the archetypal blonde heroine, wearing a series of 1950s inspired looks, to play out scenes from some of Hitchcock’s most famous films including The Birds, Rear Window, Psycho and Vertigo.

Captured by photographer Lacey, the hyper-stylised beauty by Lisa Houghton in this editorial is breathtaking – I love the glamorous cat-eye liner, the round-tip nails and the vibrant-yet-slightly cold colour combinations, which works perfectly with the drama and suspense of the Hitchcock concept.

Are you a fan of this Hitchcock-inspired editorial?

Cover Loving: Jennifer Lawrence For Vogue

wpid Photo 10 Aug 2013 2308 Cover Loving: Jennifer Lawrence For Vogue %tag

So the September issues have been a little hit and miss this year for me. I loved Katy Perry’s ELLE UK’s subscription issue but wasn’t taken with her flamingo pose on the newsstand version, I thought Glamour US played safe putting Jennifer Aniston on the cover I much preferred the Chloë Moretz editorial, and while I was a little bored seeing Sarah Jessica Parker in another gold dress on Harper’s Bazaar US, I did quite like Nina Dobrev’s awkward pose for Cosmo.

It has to be said though, other than the new-look Lucky magazine with Blake Lively in that exquisite blue Gucci coat, I haven’t really been blown me away – until I saw the gorgeous Jennifer Lawrence on the cover of Vogue US.

Since it was revealed last month that the Hunger Games star was going to be gracing the September issue I have been excited to see it – and I think Mario Testino has captured a gorgeous cover. Granted it is more of a ‘beauty’ than ‘fashion’ shot but I think it is perfection and she really is glowing.

I know for some there will be criticism that this isn’t a fashion shot, maybe a full-length would have been more appropriate for a September issue, to show off the fashion, but for me I adore the close-up shot of the actress, especially as it shows off her new shorter hair.

A few snaps of the accompanying editorial have also been spotted online, I am loving the vintage feel to them being in black and white and I can’t wait to see in print, as well as read the interview with the cover line “unguarded” I am expecting some juicy!!!

Editorial Loving: Homeland Gets Fashionable For US Vogue

Vogue august homeland 2 Editorial Loving: Homeland Gets Fashionable For US Vogue %tag

I am a huge Claire Danes and Homeland fan so I was excited when I heard that the actress would be the star of US Vogue’s August issue, however, the cover is just a little blah, which disappointed me a little until I saw the amazing editorial shot by Annie Leibovitz accompanying it.

The espionage-themed photo shoot, captured on Homeland’s set, shows Claire Danes as her bipolar CIA agent character Carrie in a high-fashion editorial spread alongside her hottie co-star Damian Lewis and I love it.

I love the concept, the staging of recreating prominent scenes and scenarios from the show, and most of all the contrast of the high-fashion styling – how amazing would it be if Carrie actually did wear Victoria Beckham on a stack-out!!!

You have Claire sprawled out on a bed wearing Narciso Rodriguez gown, admiring herself in the interrogation mirror in a Calvin Klein Collection dress that Zoe Saldana wore while promoting Star Trek, and looking a little retro in the car wearing a matching Hermès lambskin jacket and skirt.

I just wish that the cover, which only saving grace is an amazing Burberry trench coat, was more explosive and representative of the accompanying editorial.

What do you think – are you a fan of US Vogue’s August cover?
