Wedding Inspiration: Miss Piggy’s Vivienne Westwood Bridal Gown

OK, hands up who is a fan of Miss Piggy, what’s not to love she has great fashion sense, do you remember her shoot with InStyle a few years ago, and her looks in the Muppets movie as a fashion editor were impeccable, well she is topping all that with this preview of her up-coming flick wearing a Vivienne Westwood Couture wedding gown.

I am sure you are screaming with glee that it looks like Miss Piggy is finally getting Kermit down the aisle, but can we just focus for a second on that amazing custom gown – I am not going to lie I am a little a jealous, I don’t think this bride-to-be can out-do that!!!

Any bride-to-be knows that Vivienne Westwood makes a great bridal gown but Miss Piggy’s is a beauty, oh and it’s eco-friendly as the corset detailing and paillettes on the Long Ivory Court wedding gown are made from recycled plastic bottles. Finishing of the diva’s look is a gorgeous ivory tulle veil and some striking bling around her neck.

Admit it – you are a little jealous as well!!!

SAG Awards: Nicole Kidman In Vivienne Westwood

nicole-kidman-sag-awardsWho: Nicole Kidman

Where: At the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards at The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California

Wearing: A midnight blue Vivienne Westwood Couture ‘Marlene’ column gown covered in floral appliqués, a sheer neckline and a thigh-high split, teamed with Fred Leighton jewellery and black strappy heels

Verdict: Wow, Nicole Kidman keeps on surprising me with her red carpet looks, at the Golden Globes I loved her Alexander McQueen and I think I prefer this midnight blue Vivienne Westwood just because of how sexy it is.

I love the exquisite beaded embroidery, the sheer panelling, and then the thigh-high split – Nicole really knows how to wear a column dress and this is the best I have seen her in a while.

However, as much as I love her gown, jewels, and choice of heels, I would have loved her to have done more with her hair, I like it sleek straight but I don’t love it I wish she had put it up and showed off the neckline of this dress more.

What do you think of Nicole’s look?

Golden Globes 2013: Jennifer Garner In Vivienne Westwood Couture

Who: Jennifer Garner

Where: At the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards, held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California

Wearing: A strapless dark red Vivienne Westwood Couture Riding dress featuring a sweetheart neckline and embroidered sequinned detailing and a train, teamed with David Webb jewellery and Salvatore Ferragamo heels

Verdict: I have to own up I love, love, love Jennifer Garner as I am a huge Alias fan, Sydney Bristow and her many wigs and kick arse attitude totally ruled, but more than that I just think she oozes glamour when she hits the red carpet, which sadly isn’t as often as I would like.

Last night at the Golden Globes, out supporting her hubbie Ben Affleck, I thought she looked incredible in this Vivienne Westwood couture gown. Everything about the look totally worked for me – from the deep red shade to the intricate embroidered sequinned design that just shimmered beautifully on TV to her chic up-do and gorgeous gold jewellery.

I have a total girl crush!!!

Cannes 2012: Diane Kruger In Vivienne Westwood Couture

Who: My girl crush Diane Kruger

Where: At the Amour Premiere at the Palais des Festivals during the 65th Annual Cannes Film Festival

Wearing: A custom-made rose-gold sequinned strapless corset Vivienne Westwood Couture gown embroidered with paillettes, and draping to the skirt, paired with Jimmy Choo Suki accessories in Suki pewter heels and carrying a silver Mini Tube clutch

Verdict: Gorgeous, Diane has given so much in her red carpet appearances at Cannes so far as part of her jury duties, I loved her angelic mint Giambattista Valli gown, she literally floated for the opening ceremony, then there was her sexy Versus mini-dress at a photocall, there was the girlie Calvin Klein look, and the edgy Jason Wu dress, which I adored, and now she has shimmered in Vivienne Westwood.

It’s going to be hard to choose which look is her best as I have been impressed with them all, but this Vivienne Westwood is special as I love that it has an Old-Hollywood feel about it with the corset showing off her tiny waist, and her swept to one side is just divine.

I am still hoping to see Diane working an Elie Saab, an Alexander McQueen, and a sexy Atelier Versace number. What would you love to see Diane wear?

Exhibition: Ballgowns – British Glamour Since 1950 At The V&A

Vivienne Westwood

Yesterday I was in ballgown heaven as I was lucky enough to attend the press preview of the V&A’s new fashion exhibition – Ballgowns: British Glamour Since 1950, which is the first exhibition in its newly renovated V&A Fashion Galleries. The exhibit charts the evolution of the ballgown from society-girl to red carpet glamour, and features British gowns from the likes of Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, Burberry, Erdem, as well as London Fashion Week favourites Mary Katrantzou, Holly Fulton, Mark Fast, and even a specially created metallic leather dress designed by Gareth Pugh for the exhibition.

Gareth Pugh

I have to be honest, the Fashion Galleries themselves downstairs didn’t look too much different to me, they’ve added some cool illustrations and a few new commissions, but generally speaking there isn’t a drastic change; however upstairs is a different story, they’ve restored the gallery to its original architecture with its domed ceilings and added a mezzanine gallery, which really does open up the space.

Downstairs you wander around more traditional gowns, think ballgowns fit for royals, there were pieces designed by Hardy Aimes and Norman Hartnell, and Princess Diana’s ‘Elvis Dress’ designed by Catherine Walker has been taken out of storage. But it was upstairs that blew me away, the impact of the three domes filled with contemporary ballgowns was just incredible, my eyes were instantly drawn to Giles Deacon taking flight, then onto an Amanda Wakely design intertwined with a wooden chandelier prop, and then I settled on Vivienne Westwood’s dramatic gown. The first impression at the top of the stairs is intense, I kind of wish that was the start of the exhibit.

There were a lot of gowns I liked, from the bright floral Erdem beauty to the exquisite feathered Alexander McQueen gown that Daphne Guinness wore to the Met Gala last year, and it was nice to see the likes of Holly Fulton, Craig Lawrence, Roksanda Illincic, and Mark Fast being part of the display.

Jenny Packham gown that Sandra Bullock wore

But my favourites had to be the gorgeous gowns that celebrities have worn on the red carpet: there was Sandra Bullock’s gorgeous Jenny Packham gown that she wore to the 2011 Golden Globes; Ralph & Russo have recreated a crystal-covered dress worn by Beyonce, especially for the display; and Burberry even lent the museum one of the gowns that Rosie has worn. The biggest surprise was seeing Shailene Woodley’s Met Gala dress, designed by Christopher Kane, considering it only took place last week.

I have to admit I loved the exhibition, anything that showcases gorgeous gowns embellished with sequins, feathers, crystals, and made of the most exquisite fabrics gets my vote, I just wasn’t wowed by it all. I loved the way the gowns were showcased upstairs, you could see them from all different angles, and some of the gowns were rotating, I also loved the quirky oversized pearls that were dotted around. The best bit though was that it was nice to see that they hadn’t shut everything away behind glass as you can’t always see all the details as clearly.

Loved the chandeliers and the domes

Ballgowns: British Glamour Since 1950 opens on May 19, and runs until January 6, 2013, so no need to rush to take it in, but I would recommend buying your tickets online before you go. Adult tickets cost £10 and entry for students is £7.

Are you excited to see the ballgowns?

The Body Shop: Lily Cole In Vivienne Westwood

Who: Lily Cole, The Body Shop’s new global brand advocate

Where: At the Beauty Movement by The Body Shop, Beauty with Heart event held last night at The Old Sorting Office in London

Wearing: A custom Vivienne Westwood gown created with fabrics that Lily sourced herself from a recent trip to Ghana with The Body Shop, teamed with silver and yellow shoes with a block heel

Verdict: This is a gorgeous dress, I love the draping of the top with the cut-out detailing, which is signature Westwood, but what I love most has to be the way the iridescent skirt shimmers – so striking it kind of has a make-up feel to it. I have to be honest I think I prefer the skirt more than the top half but I love the contrasting hues and stripes and it looks amazing on her. The short skirt also shows off her fab legs and really highlights the beauty of those yellow and silver heels, which were the first things to catch my attention.

“I have long been an advocate of the potential of using business and consumer power to cause positive change. The Body Shop takes a responsible attitude to people and the environment, and it feels amazing to be supporting a brand who are pioneers in that way of working,” said Lily Cole, global Brand Advocate for The Body Shop.

84th Oscars: Rose Byrne In Vivienne Westwood

Who: Bridesmaids’ star Rose Byrne

Where: At the 84th Academy Awards held at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles

Wearing: A one-shoulder midnight-blue sequinned Vivienne Westwood slinky gown, teamed with her blunt bob, Chanel drop earrings and Jimmy Choo ‘New Linda’ heels

Verdict: I have to admit I was a little surprised that this was Vivienne Westwood, and I don’t think I would have believed it except Rose told Ryan Seacrest on E! News. After being wowed at the SAG Awards when Rose wore a jumpsuit and getting up close and personal to her at the Pringle of Scotland LFW show and seeing how gorgeous she is in real life, I think I have a little crush on her. I love the glamour of this gown, with its all-over sequins and draping detailing to the front, and it fits her perfectly. I think on anyone else this could have been a boring look but on her it looks modern and fresh. I like it.
