My Style: A Winter Coat Deserves A Snowy Background

As you will know, from my numerous tweets and Instagram snaps, the snow finally fell on my village this weekend and I certainly made the most of it. So on Saturday, before the major snow fell yesterday, I decided to give my new Dorothy Perkins coat that I bought in the sale a test run – basically I just wanted an excuse to wrap up warm and wear my new coat.

I have been after a smarter winter coat for a while, and I really wanted one with contrasting sleeves but not all black like the ones I have seen in Zara, New Look and Topshop, and I had considered the parka versions seen in River Island and Warehouse but I just didn’t seem to ever find one in my size, so when I spotted this beauty in the sale at DP it was like fate!!!

As well as keeping the chill away, I love the shape of this coat, kind of a slouchy long-line biker-style coat, which is still smart and basically will go with anything in my wardrobe. What I also love is that it fits perfectly in the arms, I have tried on a lot of these contrasting sleeve coats and the faux-leather sleeve is either too tight or too baggy, this one is just right and not bad for £40.

As we hadn’t had that much snow on Saturday I decided to pair my new coat with my fairly new 5th Avenue by Halle Berry knee-high boots, yes designed by Halle Berry the actress as seen at the Golden Globes in Atelier Versace!!! 5th Avenue is a German brand part of the Deichmann footwear group and the Halle Berry line has something for everyone, so when the brand asked me to pick a pair I just loved these simple knee highs. I chose them because not only are they the perfect height, just under 9cm, they have a block heel, which means they are comfortable to wear all day, and they are less than £60 – serious bargain.

Finishing up my look is my super warm Vero Moda knitted jumper dress, which I have had for years, and I added a pop of colour with this neon statement necklace from Dorothy Perkins. Oh and I nearly forgot, I even gave my HTC One X a makeover as my Hello Kitty cover I ordered off eBay arrived – isn’t it cute!!!

What have you been wearing in the snow?

Winter Wonderland: Toasty Warm In My Ewe Wellies

I am a lover of snow, I have to confess even with all the disruption it brings – it makes me feel like a child again, and come on does another weather phenomena other than a rainbow look as  pretty?

So far this winter we have only had a light dusting  of snow, which has been very disappointing, but this weekend more than 10cms fell in my garden and I just couldn’t wait to get out there in my new Ewe wellington boots.

These aren’t just any old wellies, these beauties are lined with 100% Merino wool, so no more thick socks or those wellie liners that never quite fit properly – these boots have it all built-in. I am a lover of furry sheepskin-lining, whether it is Mou, EMU Australia or UGG Australia I have seriously tried them all, but I have to give it to Ewe using Merino wool is genius – so soft, so cosy, and makes wearing wellingtons actually comfortable – oh and the grip on them is amazing – perfect for negotiating the snow and ice.

This is a fairly new brand but I can see them doing really well over the cold snap and during the festival season especially as they have a great range of colours: I of course had to go for the girlie Cranberry, but they also come in classic Fern green for the country lovers, Onyx black perfect to wear into work on bad weather days, French grey, and Caramel white.

There are a little more pricey than the original Hunter boots, which retail around the £100 mark, these luxurious wellies are more around the Ugg price point at £160 – but if you wear wellies a lot, say to walk the dog or take to festivals each year then think of the Ewe boots as an investment. I can guarantee you won’t have worn a more cosy pair of wellies – the soft lining really does make them a joy to wear.

Wearing: Vero Moda knitted sweater jumper, Primark leggings, and Cranberry coloured Ewe wellies

**Quick disclaimer: I was generously gifted my wellies from Ewe – but all opinions are my own, I only write what I feel**

Daily Shop: Vero Moda Pleated 70s Dress

I have been looking for a dress for a while for a special occasion and I have to admit that it hasn’t been easy. Well that is until I saw this gorgeous sleeveless chiffon pleated dress from Vero Moda at asos.com. This 70s inspired dress is just perfect for a great night out as I love the flirty-style of the swing cut and tight pleated finish, and the bulwood red colour is divine.

This is also a dress that covers a multitude of sins, which I appreciate. I also really like the styling with the 70s style chunky heels. It is a good price as well at £42.

SS11 Press Day: Bestsellers – Vero Moda and Much More

Bestseller: I want this demin dog

After my discovery of Vero Moda *check out my gushing post* I was excited to see what its parent company Bestseller had to offer at their spring/summer press day. The Danish-owned company produce much more than Vero Moda *preppy femininity*, with its sister brands: Very by Vero Moda *fashion forward*, menswear brand Jack & Jones *rivals H&M menswear*, SELECTED *feminine but fearless*, ONLY *all about denim*, and VILA *vintage inspired*.

There were so many pieces that I absolutely adored – most being from the Vero Moda and Very by Vero Moda lines, as well as ONLY.

Very: Red Suede Blazer - due March 2011

I love this red suede blazer from Very by Vero Moda, gorgeous cute and will look amazing teamed over a knitted dress or with jeans. It is a shame I have to wait until March for it to be in store. The label also had a lot of other pieces I adored mainly because it was inspired by a love for all things American.

Like with other press days I have been on, the American preppy look is definitely going to be making a splash come spring, and I can’t wait – because as regularly readers will know I love and dream of America!!!

Vero Moda had a 70s feel, I particularly fell in love with the yellow Halston inspired dress (top image), with its layers and black piping detailing – gorgeous summer dress coming in April.

Vero Moda: Jennie dress; Very: Ants t-shirt; and ONLY Flora cardigan

As with the store, the knitwear caught my attention, always such great quality *I have a stringent touch test – always super soft*. Bestsellers’ ONLY brand showed this floral v-neck cardigan, due to hit stores in April and I think it will be a sell out. This is also a label that really combines great feminine pieces with the masculine qualities of denim and is perfect for my casual style.

Thanks again to Charlotte for the invite. I had such a great time and can’t wait to check out the collection again as soon as the spring arrives.

Shop Launch: Vero Moda Opens In London

This week I was lucky enough to be invited to the press preview of Danish womenswear retailer Vero Moda. I have to admit that I wasn’t really aware of this brand, which is one of the reasons why I really wanted to check out what the store on Oxford Street.

It got even better when I showed up as I was lucky enough to get a gold bag which meant I could claim my free Vero Moda outfit, it is a hard job but hey I knuckled down and got shopping. To be honest it was actually a very hard choice to choose three items as I wanted so much – seriously you have to check it out to believe it – gorgeous clothes.

They have one of the best ranges of knitwear I have seen; with cardigans in various colourways and style (see below), chunky knit jumpers *I pick up an amazing one with studded embellishments on the shoulder*, knitted dresses, as well as a D&G inspired maxi dress *which of course squeezed into my gold bag*. All at surprisingly reasonable prices and I will be sure to pick up more items on my next visit.

This cool label has been on many people’s radars as it is available at ASOS but I must admit it is nothing like seeing it all in a shop. I am sure it will be compared a lot to its Scandinavian friend H&M, but I really though that the quality was higher and the clothes that were trend lead were still wearable.

There were too many key items to mention them all but if you are after a leather skater skirt, jumpsuits, chunky boots, or an aviator jacket *they had one with a shearling collar for £30*, then you have to get down to 179 Oxford Street.

Basically you will find anything you want here within their five collections: Basics *which are amazing*, Feminine, Jeans *I can’t wait to try some on*, Intimates *new for this season* and my favourite being Very the fashion-forward range *which has an amazing leather dress which I wish I could pull off*.

The interior of the store is very unique, there is a giant Buddha downstairs, colourful wire pigs and stuffed dogs on the walls, and the manniquins have the most amazing hair. As stores go this is very creative – I absolutely loved it – and I can’t believe it has taken so long for it to come to London.

I think Vero Moda is going to become my go-to-shop!!
