Cover Loving: Vanity Fair Hollywood Issue 2015

VF-hollywood-issue-cover

I do love the annual Vanity Fair Hollywood issue, it is always the most glamorous cover of the year, excluding the 3-in-a-bed scene from a few years ago, and I do love seeing the biggest names in Hollywood in a shoot together. Once again shot by Annie Leibovitz, did you know she has photographed all but three of the Hollywood issues in its 21 years, and like last year I am a fan of this cover due to its old Hollywood glamour feel, I love seeing the men dressed in white-tie tuxedos and the ladies in shimmery gowns. Granted there isn’t anything new about this cover but I still love it, because this is what I expect and love from the Hollywood issue.

Leading the pack in the special gatefold 2015 cover is Amy Adams in a gorgeous gold Atelier Versace gown, perched on the shoulders of Channing Tatum, next to a beautiful Reese Witherspoon, a little distracting with Amy’s pose and Reese’s cleavage, but I think it works. But it’s the Brits that dominated the rest of the cover and issue, yes we are invading Hollywood, with five out of the 10 stars British. You have a rather disinterested Felicity Jones, perched on the knee of Benedict Cumberbatch, while David Oyelowo drapes his arm over Eddie Redmayne, and Sienna Miller shows off her jumpsuit. Rounding off the cover is Whiplash star Miles Teller and Oscar Isaac from A Most Violent Year.

Overall I like the mix of new and established stars but I was kind of hoping that Chris Pratt and Mark Ruffalo would make an appearance, I am kind of obsessed with them both, maybe Chris is a little too mainstream with his Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic Park resume, and maybe Channing and Sienna took the Foxcatcher spots on the cover leaving no room for Ruffalo. Also talking about Sienna what did they do to her neck in editing?

The magazine has also released some of the snaps from its 2015 Hollywood portfolio, which will span across 30 pages and features 44 British stars including Keira Knightley, Damian Lewis, Ruth Wilson and Dame Judi Dench snapped by Jason Bell. Emily Blunt behind the Hollywood sign looks incredible.

On seeing this year’s cover and seeing it was celebrating 21 years, I kind of feel pretty old as well as the need to remind myself of who starred on the previous covers, so I have created a dedicated Pinterest board to the Hollywood issue. You can see how young Leo DiCaprio looks on the 1996 cover, which also includes the now forgotten Skeet Ulrich who I had a huge crush on, the all-girl cover of 2010 that even made Kristen Stewart looks sweet, and the 1995 cover that thought dressing the biggest Hollywood actresses in their underwear was a good idea, well except Gwyneth Paltrow who got to keep her gown on.

What do you think of this year’s cover? And do you have a favourite from the 21 years?

Vanity Fair Oscar Party: Diane Kruger In Valentino & Jaeger-LeCoultre

VF-Party-Diane-KrugerWho: Diane Kruger

Where: At the Vanity Fair Oscar Party 2014 in West Hollywood, California

Wearing: A sheer lace Valentino Couture gown featuring cape detailing and three-quarter sleeves from the spring/summer 2014 collection, teamed with black heels, a black beaded clutch and her Jaeger-LeCoultre watch

Verdict: It is Diane Kruger’s ability to bring something different to the red carpet that I missed her from the main event. The actress is like a chameleon she never really goes for the same thing twice and really takes fashion risks that nearly always come off.

This gorgeous Valentino Couture was a look that wowed me and really shows that the Vanity Fair party does bring out the best fashion on the night, the stars can be a little more edgy and sexy and this dress has that and more going for it.

There aren’t many actresses that could pull off this vampy elegant look, I think this is where her model body really works well as she can take something from the runway to the red carpet with ease. I know some people won’t like this look, which makes me go why the hell not, because I absolutely love the decadence and texture of the gown and styling.

As well as wearing a fab dress, the actress went for an intricate braided look done by hairstylist Kylee Heath using Morroccanoil products, which was easily one of the best hairdo’s of the night. It is sweet, charming, while still complimenting the edgy, sexy sheer dress.

I know I am bias, I am a little obsessed with Diane Kruger, but this is one flawless look.

Vanity Fair Oscar Party: Lupita Nyong’o Changes Into Miu Miu

VF-Miumiu-LupitaWho: Lupita Nyong’o

Where: At the Vanity Fair Oscar Party 2014 in West Hollywood, California

Wearing: A seafoam green Miu Miu belted silk gown with green beaded fringe along the neckline, teamed with matching peep-toe heels and the same Fred Leighton headband from the main event, oh and carrying her Oscar statue

Verdict: I loved the pale blue Prada gown and it was perfect for Lupita to float up the stairs to collect her Best Supporting Actress Oscar, but this cute column gown was the fun party frock that the Vanity Fair party needs and kind of reminds me of the change Jennifer Lawrence made last year in its silhouette.

I love the green beading on the bodice, it really does make this dress shine, and I love that she kept that cute Fred Leighton headband on – it was such a hit on the Oscars red carpet.

Which look do you prefer – her blue Prada gown or this Miu Miu beauty?

Cover Loving: Vanity Fair Hollywood Issue

VF-Hollywood-issue-2014One of my favourite covers of the year has to be the Vanity Fair Hollywood issue, I love seeing which stars have made the cut, the poses, the amazing fashion, and of course seeing who stands out. Last year didn’t wow me, OK it was great seeing Bradley Cooper and Ben Affleck in bed together, but this year’s is more glamorous and I love it.

For the 20th anniversary cover of the Hollywood issue, Julia Roberts shows off her fabulous legs surrounded by Chiwetel EjioforIdris Elba, and a very dapper looking George Clooney. But the really cover doesn’t really wow until you see the whole three-panel foldout with the statuesque Lupita Nyong’o, who is really shining in her slinky gold Calvin Klein gown along with Jared Leto, Margot Robbie and Naomie Harris.

The cover shot by Annie Leibovitz also features Michael B. Jordan, Brie Larson, Chadwick Boseman and Lea Seydoux for a very elegant Hollywood look at the best stars of the year.

Which star stands out for you on this year’s Vanity Fair Hollywood issue?

Video Loving: Diane Kruger Chats Red Carpet, Stylists & Hollywood

Diane-kruger-vanity-fairThis week Vanity Fair launched its own video channel featuring four original series inspired by the mag, one dedicated to Manhattan’s most iconic addresses, a book series, an animated ‘how-to’ series, which this week teaches you how to behave at a Swingers Party and a celebrity interview show hosted by Vanity Fair Senior West Coast Editor Krista Smith, which includes stars taking a spin in the V.F.’s video photo booth that always seems to be a highlight at their Oscar bash.

The first star to chat with Krista Smith is my girl crush Diane Kruger, yes I know I have already featured her once this week, but this video is super charming and the actress dishing on her love of fashion, not having a stylist and working the red carpet, as well as her new series on FX ‘The Bridge’.

Diane also gets into V.F.’s video photo – pulls silly faces, while still looking gorgeous, shares her love of profiteroles and the phrase ‘see what I mean’, while wearing the most adorable leopard print and multi-coloured flats.

Girl Crush: Kerry Washington For Vanity Fair

kerry-washington-vanity-fair

I have many girl crushes, from Diane Kruger, Jennifer Lawrence to Chinese actress Fan Bingbing for their incredible red carpet style, Olivia Palermo because mainly I want everything in her wardrobe, and even fictional character Carrie Bradshaw, the latest addition to the list has to be Kerry Washington.

Over the past year or so, Kerry has really upped her fashion credentials for me, making me take notice when she hits the red carpet, I have loved so many but these Donna KaranRodarteGiambattista Valli and Louis Vuitton looks are some of my favourites.

Her latest editorial shoot for Vanity Fair’s August issue is another highlight, entitled ‘Scandal’s First Lady’, the spread captured by Norman Jean Roy and styled by Jessica Diehl features some amazing looks. From the Lanvin bodysuit on the cover to the peddle-dashed Armani gown that blends in with the stairs, the futuristic Burberry Prorsum dress, and the sexy black Versace and Donna Karan New York looks. It is one hot editorial.

I love this editorial so much I wish that Vanity Fair would have used Kerry for their September issue – as if this was just for August imagine what the biggest issue of the year would have looked like!!!

Have you watched Scandal yet? I stupidly missed the first season when it aired in the UK so I am attempting to find the time to catch-up at the moment, but my friends have raved about it because of how brilliant Kerry is in it.

Are you a fan of Kerry Washington? And will you be buying this month’s Vanity Fair?

Vanity Fair Oscar Party: Diane Kruger In Giambattista Valli

diane-kruger-VF2013Who: Diane Kruger

Where: At the 2013 Vanity Fair Oscars party, held at the Sunset Tower in Hollywood

Wearing: A black and white embroidered Giambattista Valli cape dress from the spring/summer 2013 haute couture collection, teamed with Christian Louboutin heels, a Roger Vivier Boite de Nuit gold and black metal clutch, and Fabergé jewellery

Verdict: I have missed Diane Kruger this award season as she always brings something new and different to the red carpet, and this is another incredible fashion-forward choice from one of her favourite couture designers, Giambattista Valli.

I don’t think many people could pull off this long-sleeved caped design but Diane seems to do it with ease, which is probably why I love it so much.

As well as loving the print, bold like Nina Dobrev’s, I love that it isn’t floor length like nearly everyone else, it makes her and this couture design stand out.

I think this another great look from Diane – do you agree?
