My Style: A Pop Of Colour & A Gorgeous Cambridge Garden

I have lived in the Cambridge area for just over five years now and for years I have driven past the Cambridge University Botanic Gardens on my way into town and wondered what was behind the magnificent gates, so when my Mum came to stay we decided to do something a little quieter, a bit more relaxed than our tourist day trip to London and take in the scenery of the heritage gardens.

Boasting more than 40 acres – this is one hell of a garden – filled with gorgeous flowers, huge trees, a water lily inspired fountain and a rock garden to envy – as well as one of the most gorgeous collection of cactuses – the only plant I can seem to keep alive!!!

Well as it was a garden I decided to add a pop of colour to my casual look – well it would be rude not to in such a beautiful place wouldn’t it!!! You will have seen this Primark knit before, I am obsessed with the Barbie pink colour as well as the blue fleck that runs through it, which never seems to come in pictures, but that is why I decided to team it with my blue spotty dog scarf I picked up from New Look.

My favourite aspect of this look though has to be all the gorgeous arm candy. I am working my new black and gold flowerball bracelet from Folli Follie, a fairly new brand to me but since I went for afternoon tea at their store last year I have been obsessed with all their pretty jewellery.

I also wore my new bracelets that I bought at Urban Outfitters for the first time – two gold initial bracelets with ‘D’ and ‘P’ in love hearts highlighting mine and my boyfriends first names – I wanted to do ‘DWS’ for my name but they were all out of ‘W’ so I thought a soppy declaration of love would be more fitting!!!

Also at Urban Outfitters my Mum bought me this super cute Gemini friendship bracelet – I love the colours and the charm and it can basically be worn with anything and it was less than £10 – my sort of bracelet.

My final piece of arm candy is the exquiste and delicate evil eye friendship bracelet from Astley Clarke, which has become my new jewellery brand to lust over – I am obsessed with their ring stacks. This is my first and only piece from the brand, but it sure wont be the last!!!

As well as striking a pose it was nice to have a wander around this magnificent garden, especially the Winter Garden, filled with burnt oranges, deep reds and gorgeous snow drops. My other favourite spot had to be the lake, seeing the reflections of the trees flickering across the water was so relaxing, and I wanted all the brightly coloured flowers from inside the greenhouse – especially this powderpuff flower.

Festive Wear: Novelty Knits For Christmas

I am finding it a little weird that my love for festive novelty jumpers isn’t being laughed at this year, rather than everyone feeling it is a little naff, it seems everyone is getting in on the act. A couple of weeks ago I shared the Net-a-Porter collection of designer Christmas jumpers, which I have to admit I am still thinking of splurging on, but I felt that I should look at more affordable options. I am a love of snowflakes, animals, snowmen and even Santa motif jumpers, and I have tracked down some beauties.

I am loving that there are so many swan jumpers about, these are my two favourites:

Intarsia Swan Jumper, £37, Miss Selfridge

Fluffy Swan Intarsia Jumper, £55, Oasis

Animals Festive Wear: Novelty Knits For Christmas %tag

I think animal jumpers are always my favourites, and I have gone for the cute, the fluffy, the Royal and a little on the weird side!!

Knitted Rabbit Jumper, £39, Miss Selfridge

Ivory Penguin Long Line Jumper, £35, Dorothy Perkins

Joules, Monty Corgi Print Jumper, £69.95, John Lewis

Paul & Joe, Intarsia Sheep Jumper, £135, ASOS

Can’t go too wrong with a reindeer jumper, traditional yet still on trend with the animal jumpers, also mix in reindeer with a fairisle print and you are working a very wintery look.

ASOS Collection, T-shirt with Oversize Reindeer, £18, ASOS – OK technically not a jumper, but still just as cute

Pins & Needles Reindeer Sweatshirt, £35, Urban Outfitters

Ted Baker, Macha Patterned Sweater, £99, Ted Baker

Warehouse, Stag Print Sweater, £35, House of Fraser

This isn’t actually a theme rather the traditional snowflake versus the neon naff, in a good way of course. Both are great Christmas jumpers – which one do you prefer?

Vila Nordic Knitted Snowflake Jumper, £50, ASOS

ASOS Collection, Neon Christmas Jumper, £35, ASOS

But my vote for the best Christmas jumper and the one I think I might wear this Christmas day has to be this gorgeous Panda Jumper from ASOS. I have been a little obsessed with planning a trip to Edinburgh just to see the new Panda’s at the zoo and this will help ease the pain of not being able to go until the New Year. Also it is such a great price at only £30.

Which one is your favourite?

AW11 Press Day: Urban Outfitters – Romance vs Cobain

DSC04118 AW11 Press Day: Urban Outfitters Romance vs Cobain %tag

Last week on a very sunny and hot day I checked out the autumn/winter 2011 preview from Urban Outfitters at their Oxford Street store. The small but perfectly formed press day showcased their own collections as well as some of the designer labels that they will be stocking including Henry Holland, Jonathan Saunders and Evil Twin.

But I have to admit it was OU’s own label that fascinated me. The first of the two collections entitled A Dark Romance is a feminine look with a dark romantic soul, inspired by the eclectric wardrobe of a Goldsmith’s Fine Art student. So think a vintage vibe, with key pieces influenced by the decadent eras of the 30′s and 40′s, with lace, florals, feminine silhouettes and higher waistlines.

The second collection is Cobain, obviously inspired by early 90′s grunge, filled with delicate lingerie pieces layered with grungy boyfriend cardigans, statement collar shirts and stacked platforms, and cool band tees given new life.

Another thing I love about Urban Outfitters has to be their quirky take on homeware, they have everything from mini sewing machines to butterfly paper weights.
