Shopping: Uniqlo x Lulu Guinness Sweatshirts

So is anyone tiring of designer collaborations yet? I think I am a little over the lower-end brands teaming up with designers and hiking up their prices just for the name, though I do love them when they expose emerging designers to the masses, and I also can’t help adding them to my wardrobe when they are as reasonably priced as Uniqlo collaborations always seem to be. So to answer my own question, I am still a little on the fence.

I am a huge fan of Lulu Guinness, I have many of her handbags, purses, and card holders, and that is mainly because she brings such humour and fun to her designs, when you add that to Uniqlo’s incredible UT collection of T-shirts and sweatshirts you know that you are on to a winner.

This is her third hook up with the brand **I think** , but I am going to go out on a limb and say this is her first with sweatshirts, and if it isn’t I totally missed that and I have four of her T-shirts from the previous collections. There is always a kitsch vibe to Lulu Guinness’ collections but I love that this isn’t all about the lips, don’t worry they are still there, but covers everything from 50s Americana to painted nails, lipstick and even a cute updated doll face that I totally need.

The heavy focus on beauty kind of made me think that Lulu could be wanting to give Paul & Joe a run for their money for the cutest beauty packaging, ooh wouldn’t that just be so amazing. Sorry I have totally gone off topic – back to the shopping!!!

It is hard to say which is my favourite, at £19.90 a piece that are all pretty good value for money, but I do love that blue sweater with the hands wrapped around it, as well as the Lulu meets Miami car, and the wine coloured sleeves of the doll face fluttering eyes just looks so cosy, I think that might need to be my travelling to New York sweater!!!

My Style: The Kooky Cat

I like black, I like colour too, but black has to me go-to wardrobe staple, I think it is because in my head it is slimming, and to be honest I need all the help I can get. But to jazz up an all-black look I like to either add bright accessories, normally a bracelet stack, a colour-pop handbag, or in this case a quirky top.

I have already shared my love for Lulu Guinness’ collaboration with Uniqlo a number of times, and I have to say that this second collection is better than the first and it is all to-do with the summer-feeling sleeveless tops. My favourite being the updated Kooky Cat, you might remember the grey t-shirt version last year, well this is the revamped style featuring a cute dotty Peter Pan collar.

my-style-lulu-guinness-2 When the weather is warmer I plan on wearing this without the cardigan, but to be honest even though the sun is shining at the moment it is still pretty chilly, but it works perfectly teamed with my Topshop skater skirt and ankle boots. I really think that this a versatile piece, you could pair with slouchy jeans and wedges, a denim skirt and kitty flats, or how about just showing off that fab collar under a bright jumper – there is so much you can do with this top and priced at only £12.90 it really is a bargain.

My Style: When Hudson Met Lulu

This weekend actually felt like spring, it was sunny, it was warm, and it meant that I could finally wear something that wasn’t layered up – cue the crop jeans, the statement tee and a colourful pair of trainers!!!

A couple of years ago I am not so sure I would have got my ankles out for a pair of jeans, that was because I hadn’t been introduced to the boyfriend style of denim, since I got my Gap pair I have been a little obsessed in finding a pair that was a little longer in length that would be perfect with trainers, and then Jeanography came along and recommend these Hudson Jeans and I think I can safely say they are going to be my spring/summer staple.

As we had friends over this weekend we took full advantage of the sunny weather and took in the sights, shops, and gorgeous parks of St Albans, a market town that I haven’t been to in a while and it is so pretty. As we were doing a bit of walking around I decided to wear my new Onitsuka Tiger trainers, so, so comfortable and I am in love with the gorgeous pink colour, which works so well with blue denim.

To complete my look of first time wears, which wasn’t intentional I just realised while writing this post, was my Lulu Guinness for Uniqlo doll face tee. You may remember I was a big fan of Lulu’s first collaboration with the Japanese fashion brand, I have the Kooky Cat and the original doll face, so when the collection came out earlier this month I couldn’t resist updating my wardrobe with the new style and at under £15 this tee is a bargain.

If the sunny weather keeps up like this I think you will be seeing a lot more of these jeans, these shoes and an array of statement tees!!!

Do you have a go-to sunny Sunday afternoon attire?

My Style: A Pop Of Colour & A Gorgeous Cambridge Garden

I have lived in the Cambridge area for just over five years now and for years I have driven past the Cambridge University Botanic Gardens on my way into town and wondered what was behind the magnificent gates, so when my Mum came to stay we decided to do something a little quieter, a bit more relaxed than our tourist day trip to London and take in the scenery of the heritage gardens.

Boasting more than 40 acres – this is one hell of a garden – filled with gorgeous flowers, huge trees, a water lily inspired fountain and a rock garden to envy – as well as one of the most gorgeous collection of cactuses – the only plant I can seem to keep alive!!!

Well as it was a garden I decided to add a pop of colour to my casual look – well it would be rude not to in such a beautiful place wouldn’t it!!! You will have seen this Primark knit before, I am obsessed with the Barbie pink colour as well as the blue fleck that runs through it, which never seems to come in pictures, but that is why I decided to team it with my blue spotty dog scarf I picked up from New Look.

My favourite aspect of this look though has to be all the gorgeous arm candy. I am working my new black and gold flowerball bracelet from Folli Follie, a fairly new brand to me but since I went for afternoon tea at their store last year I have been obsessed with all their pretty jewellery.

I also wore my new bracelets that I bought at Urban Outfitters for the first time – two gold initial bracelets with ‘D’ and ‘P’ in love hearts highlighting mine and my boyfriends first names – I wanted to do ‘DWS’ for my name but they were all out of ‘W’ so I thought a soppy declaration of love would be more fitting!!!

Also at Urban Outfitters my Mum bought me this super cute Gemini friendship bracelet – I love the colours and the charm and it can basically be worn with anything and it was less than £10 – my sort of bracelet.

My final piece of arm candy is the exquiste and delicate evil eye friendship bracelet from Astley Clarke, which has become my new jewellery brand to lust over – I am obsessed with their ring stacks. This is my first and only piece from the brand, but it sure wont be the last!!!

As well as striking a pose it was nice to have a wander around this magnificent garden, especially the Winter Garden, filled with burnt oranges, deep reds and gorgeous snow drops. My other favourite spot had to be the lake, seeing the reflections of the trees flickering across the water was so relaxing, and I wanted all the brightly coloured flowers from inside the greenhouse – especially this powderpuff flower.

My Style: Day Three At London Fashion Week

Day three and the sun has been shining all day, granted still not that warm, but I don’t mind shivering when it is bright. Once again, another look, another shade of pink – so we’ve had a bright pink jumper, bright pink accessories and today I went for my new Gap blazer which I picked up in the sale last weekend.

Considering a blazer is a wardrobe staple I only seem to have two very ill-fitted ones so I thought it was time to invest for fashion week as you can dress an outfit up or down with one and lots of my friends recommended Gap. When I saw this bright pink beauty I couldn’t resist, even more so when it was £20 off – serious bargain that I am sure to wear all-year round.

As the trim of the blazer is a dark grey I thought it would make the bright pink stand out even more if the rest of my outfit was charcoal grey and black – and I think this is one of my favourite looks for a while.

As you know if you follow me on Twitter I love jeans but like most people I struggle to find styles that fit and look flattering and a number of my followers answered my pleas for help and suggested Uniqlo, a shop I love for t-shirts but have never tried for denim, but I have seriously been missing out.

These dark grey beauties are from the super soft, super stretchy skinny range, and I can assure you they are exactly that, they are just so flattering and for a long time putting skinny jeans on didn’t make me feel instantly fat. Plus they are super long, I have them turned up as wearing with boots today, but in the summer I will actually be able to wear jeans with flats and not feel like I am showing half my leg off!!!

Finishing off my look is my trusty Osprey London bag, this is so perfect for fashion week – classic colour, classic design and fits everything from my iPad, tickets, make-up, chocolate, phone, diary, notepad, pens, etc, etc, in, as well as my Ice-Watch, which sadly has the wrong date on it, my Topshop ankle boots that I am literally wearing to death, and a new statement necklace from New Look.

My Style: Pink and grey blazer, Gap // Dark grey skinny jeans, Uniqlo // Dark grey t-shirt, Warehouse // Necklace, New Look // Ankle boots, Topshop // Black ‘The Trader’ bag, Osprey London // Pink watch, Ice-Watch // Tiffany’s bracelet // Silver bangle stack, Forever 21 // Scarf tied to bag, New Look // Glasses, Karen Millen (c/o Specsavers) //

LFW SS13: Day 4 – A Barbie Makeover, Mark Fast Goes Ghetto, and I Opt For A Flash Of Pink…Again

Day 4 of London Fashion Week is generally about the big hitters Burberry and Erdem, unless like me you sadly don’t have tickets, one day here’s hoping. For me today was all about heading over to the Topshop venue on Bedford Square for the first time this fashion week, Barbie hitting the catwalk, seeing Mark Fast’s latest offering, as well as dropping in on the bloggers hangout The Apartment for a Forever 21 styling session.

First up Louise Gray at the Topshop venue and Barbie’s latest appearance at London Fashion Week, last year was Sister by Sibling but I was really excited to see the Louise’s three designs inspired by my favourite doll. My excitement for the show did sour slightly with the fact I nearly didn’t get in, sadly I only had a standing ticket and they said it was too crowded to let me in, thankfully I squeezed into the tent as the last minute. It does disappointment me that for a show that was sponsored by Barbie that they didn’t do more to support fashion blogs like mine that love Barbie, come on it is in my blog name!

But enough about that, back to the collection, I love how Louise Gray brings the fun to fashion. I love the energy and attitude of Louise’s shows, the soundtrack was incredible, and I loved the graffiti, doodles, and newsprint-esq prints on the shift dresses and tailored pieces. What stood out the most, other than the fab three Barbie-inspired pieces had to be the accessories – everything from the mirror-effect headgear, designed by milliner, Stephen Jones, to the Tatty Devine made jewellery, and the make-up was crazy finishing touch with cartoon crown’s pencilled over the top of the eyebrows and matte orange lips.

From Bedford Square I then stupidly along with Alex and Briony jumped on the press bus to Burberry, the furthest London Fashion Week venue, for some reason this fashion week I have been making some very rookie mistakes. To be honest though I kind of enjoy my bus trip through London!

Every day there has been something different at The Apartment today was Forever 21’s turn, they brought the specially curated Abi Marvel collection, which you must look out for in the Oxford Circus store, plus stacks of jewellery, sweets and their new shoe collections.

Then thanks to Get Taxi I got to Mark Fast in plenty of time. Mark Fast is always an intriguing show, whether it is to see the plus-size models or to see what else he can craft in knit, or to see who is on the front row – last season it was Kanye West, sadly we all had to make do with Kelly Brooke who is doing the rounds this LFW.

To the soundtrack of Salt n Pepper, Mark Fast’s ‘Broke’ collection sent down model after model all sporting the same afro hairstyle and hip hop swagger. Of course there was lots of figure-hugging knitwear, micro skirts, and lots and lots of fringing. Obviously Mark Fast is saying if it isn’t broken don’t fix it!!!

My final stop of the day was the Handpicked Media suite to see the Ted Baker girlies, I love their autumn/winter 2012 collection so it was lovely to take a peak at my favourite pieces, but what I loved most was the Hunger Games-inspired display – very Katniss with the bow and arrow!!!

To my look, well I went for a girlie vibe today as Barbie was in town, so I decided to team my Lulu Guinness for Uniqlo tee with my pleated black skirt, new Topshop boots, which simply go with everything, and I couldn’t resist a flash of pink with my Cambridge Satchel Company bag.

My Style: Next pleated skirt; Lulu Guinness for Uniqlo t-shirt; New Look skinny neon pink belt; Black embellished cardigan; Topshop boots; and Cambridge Satchel Company bag.

What was your highlight of Day 4 at London Fashion Week?

My Style: A Rainy Day Calls For Lulu Guinness

What a miserable week we’ve had with the weather, not only has it really meant trawling round the press days soggy, but it has also played havoc with my wardrobe and what to wear. Well today, even though it is raining, again, I decided to cheer myself up by wearing one of my new Lulu Guinness for Uniqlo t-shirts.

I wasn’t quick enough to buy online, there are only three styles left, but I did find that the Oxford Street store had one of each of the designs I wanted, the Kooky Cat tee that I am wearing, and my favourite the Doll Face, plus they were only £12.90 each down from £14.99. So if you love the collection I suggest you get searching for your favourite style before they sell out.

I am a sucker for graphic/printed t-shirts, I seem to team them with everything jeans, maxi skirts, over dresses, and this look is generally my favourite working with my go-to jersey H&M skirt. Basically this is just a comfortable casual look, perfectly for lounging about the house, running errands, and generally relaxing away the weekend.

My Style: Lulu Guinness for Uniqlo kooky cat tee; H&M skirt; New Look cardigan; Primark leggings; and New Look boots.

I can’t wait to wear my Doll Face tee soon, this is one of my favourite designs from Lulu Guinness, I am still dreaming about the clutch I saw at the press day a few weeks back.

Have you bought anything from the Lulu Guinness for Uniqlo collection?
