My Style: The Kooky Cat

I like black, I like colour too, but black has to me go-to wardrobe staple, I think it is because in my head it is slimming, and to be honest I need all the help I can get. But to jazz up an all-black look I like to either add bright accessories, normally a bracelet stack, a colour-pop handbag, or in this case a quirky top.

I have already shared my love for Lulu Guinness’ collaboration with Uniqlo a number of times, and I have to say that this second collection is better than the first and it is all to-do with the summer-feeling sleeveless tops. My favourite being the updated Kooky Cat, you might remember the grey t-shirt version last year, well this is the revamped style featuring a cute dotty Peter Pan collar.

I really think that this a versatile piece, you could pair with slouchy jeans and wedges, a denim skirt and kitty flats, or how about just showing off that fab collar under a bright jumper – there is so much you can do with this top and priced at only £12.90 it really is a bargain.

My Style: Denim & Stripes With Added Arm Candy

This week has been kind of quiet – with the Bank Holiday I haven’t been into London much, instead I have been baking up a storm for the Great River Bake Off *more to come on this*, but on Thursday night I did venture into the snow storm, I know I thought April was all about the rain showers but apparently Thursday was the coldest April day in Blighty for the past 50 years – seriously crazy weather.

The occasion was catching up with my good friend and fellow blogger Sherin from HiFashion and also head over to the Kipling x Helena Christensen party at Beach Blanket Babylon – I had planned to wear a new dress I have been dying to wear, but the weather had other ideas so I decided to work my mini flares with a stripy shirt, a classic but an easy style to throw on.

I wasn’t going to do a style post, mainly because I like to take my shots outside and I wasn’t willing to take my coat off in the freezing conditions, but I actually quite liked the moody lighting at Beach Blanket Babylon that I decided what the hell as I really like this look.

For me this outfit was made fun by my jewellery, which I seem to be obsessed with off late, I just find it the best way to jazz up an outfit or brighten up my mood. This week when mooching around New Look, like you do, I came across this adorable black and white panda watch, I instantly fell in love with it and at £9.99 this watch is the perfect addition to any arm candy party!!!

As I don’t like to mix my metals, I teamed my watch with some of my favourite pieces of silver jewellery – my moo cow necklace that my mum bought me a few years back from Christmas, I literally wear this necklace to death it is so cute, my new ring from & Other Stories, I just love how simple it is, and no jewellery look is complete without a stack of bracelets – I went for these ornate ones, also from New Look. I do love to jingle.

Do you love to jazz up an outfit with your jewellery?

My Style: Black, Black, & More Black, With A Touch Of Animal Magic

ootd black and white 1 My Style: Black, Black, & More Black, With A Touch Of Animal Magic %tag

Sometimes you just need to wear something simple, comfortable but an outfit that still makes you feel good, for me this can be one of two looks – jeans or a skater skirt and top, yesterday when I went for lunch with my friend Alex I opted for the girlie of the two.

As it was a mainly black look, shock horror hey I do love to wear black, I decided to pair my skirt and jumper with a cute white collar. When looking to freshen up a look, I am really enjoying teaming jumpers with cute collars, whether Peter Pan style, embroidered or like this one gold tipped – simple, easy and chic.

It may have been the first day of spring yesterday but that didn’t stop it from being freezing so I paired my look with my bargain coat from Dorothy Perkins and a bright orange leopard printed scarf that I picked up ages ago from New Look to add a touch of colour.

Finishing up my look is my animal magic jewellery, a rabbit ring and stag necklace that I was kindly sent from Wonsuponatime, I am seriously in love with this cute ring and so appropriate with Easter just around the corner, as well as my animal-effect bangles that I picked up from H&M.

I find jewellery is a great way to accessory a look without costing the earth, while still making a statement, and my latest obsession after arm candy has to be rings. I have gone years without wearing any rings, after my hands swelled up while in New York and my rings were destroyed  but I am embracing them again and love really dainty but statement pieces and this rabbit is one of my current favs.

What’s your tip for jazzing up a simple look?

My Style: Cats & Dogs Without The Rain

While visiting Columbia Road it seemed rude not to snap my outfit, but instead of a flower stall backdrop I decided that this beautiful floral mosaic wall that was on one of the side streets was much prettier.

It was milder last week than it is now so I was fine to wear this look without a huge winter jacket. I love skater skirts, they are just easy to wear, comfortable, and look great with a statement knit, a blazer jacket and biker boots, which to me equals weekend staple!!!

I know that I have been going crazy on the animal jumpers, I promise this will be the last one, as even though it is pretty it malted worse than my real cats, which is why no close up as the grey furry wool is all over my blazer.

To add a bit of warmth I paired my look with my dalmatian print scarf from New Look, which was a complete bargain at £7.99, and the cobalt colour meant I could get my trusty Rebecca Minkoff MAB bag out of storage – oh how I have missed this bag!!!

What are your go-to weekend staples?

Beauty: The WAH Nails Experience

wahnails me 1 Beauty: The WAH Nails Experience %tag

As you may have gathered if you follow me on Twitter is that my Mum was down for the weekend, hence the lack of blog posts, and we generally did lots of fun, touristy things in London like going to art galleries, enjoying afternoon tea, a spot of shopping, you know Mother/daughter fun, and I also took my Mum to get her first real nail art. We tried it up North, but a flick and a diamante crystal doesn’t quite count, I wanted her to have a full-on crazy experience so I took her to WAH Nails in Topshop.

Granted I think going from a flick to full-on craziness at WAH Nails might have been a little too much, watching my Mum’s face as she looked at the giant menu of options which included having nails decorated with bananas, ‘pows’, skulls, and happy faces, was hilarious – she was a little overwhelmed to say the least.

But the beauty of nail art and especially somewhere like WAH Nails is that they basically let you have what you want, whether that is just one statement nail, a couple of different designs mixed together, or full-on magic – you choose your colours and the design.

I was toying with the idea of getting the pop art ‘pow’ design on every nail, or the fade away leopard print something bold and a little OTT, but I decided to go for something more subtle, more me, which meant pink, bright pink, and a statement print, and in WAH Nails standards might seem a little boring – but I just love that it was still fun, bright, but not straight off the menu!!!

Choosing my varnish was hard, they literally have a wall full, and lines and lines of pink shades, but I finally opted for OPIs ‘Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot’ a gorgeous neon pink that would work perfectly with black ‘Poison Ivy’ nail art. I could have had the design on all my nails, and I saw some that had and it looked amazing, but I just wanted my thumbs and a vine of poison ivy on my ring fingers and I think it came out beautifully.

We both like things to be symmetrical and well with her initials being SS it was kind of perfect to have them drawn on her thumbs and I think the deal was sealed when she found a deep purple shade for the base, which in some lights looks black. I just love how the ‘SS’ design really stands out against the bold colour.

My Style: Boyfriend Jeans & A Lobster Knit

my style art gallery My Style: Boyfriend Jeans & A Lobster Knit %tag

As you know by now I love a statement knit, whether it is a flash of neon pink or yellow, or a wolf or tiger, I love how you can dress them up and down, and at the weekend I took my Nowhere Lobster knit from Nelly.com that I picked up at the The Apartment LFW Dress Up event out for a test run.

With my Mum down for the weekend we decided to do touristy things around London, things we hadn’t done in years or never done before, and on Friday we hit one of my favourite places the National Gallery. I love this place for many reasons – the architecture is just exquisite, each time I visit I dream of one day having a gorgeous mosaic floor, and I can’t get enough of the Claude-Oscar Monet, John Constable and Joseph Turner paintings.

As it was a day of walking, relaxing, and having fun, but gloomy and grey, I opted for comfort, warmth as well as style with my new favourite jeans, my sexy boyfriend jeans that I picked up from Gap for London Fashion Week. Since I got such lovely comments at fashion week over my style posts I thought I would keep on working these beauties and I just love how comfortable they are but also how versatile they are that they can be smart as well as casual.

This look is kind of in-between smart and casual, kind of dressed up with the coat, but once off it has the dressed-down feel of a tourist day out that I was after. I just love the moody burgundy colour of the lobster knit against the black and grey coat and the denim.

My Style: Day Five At London Fashion Week

OOTD Day5 yellow pow My Style: Day Five At London Fashion Week %tag

The final day and even though my fashion flu has come on early I will be sad to see this fashion week go – I have enjoyed the spectacle, seeing the collections, and generally pushing myself to try new things with my outfits. So we’ve had boyfriend jeans, some sneaker love, a statement blazer, a pinafore dress and today’s look is a ‘boom’ ‘pow’ ‘zap’ of a look as I channel my inner super hero.

OOTD Day5 boom My Style: Day Five At London Fashion Week %tag

When I saw this skirt online at Topshop I love it, I was also worried I wasn’t cool or skinny enough to pull it off, but when I tried it on I really liked how fun it was and all the colours. I did plan on buying a red jumper to match the ‘boom’ but then I spied this neon yellow jumper in Toppers and it was a OTT colour match made in heaven.

Finishing up my colourful look is this gorgeous 13inch cobalt blue Cambridge Satchel Company bag that I borrowed from the Covent Garden stores lending library, I just couldn’t resist it – great colour, big enough to fit my iPad in and tickets, but not too big that it overpowers the look – plus I love carrying it like an oversized clutch.
