My Style: Finding The Perfect Leather Dress

My-Style-Outnet-8

I have a list of wardrobe essentials that I am constantly trying to perfect, whether it is finding that white shirt that fits perfectly, or the softest cashmere jumper, or even that hero pair of skinny jeans that never loses its shape. One thing on that list that I haven’t got close to finding, well until I spotted this Iris & Ink beauty on The Outnet, had to be a leather dress.

I am pretty fussy, it had to be nearer to knee-length than mini-skirt, it had to be roomy enough that I could wear all day and still eat, it had to be quality, and most importantly it had to be more tailored than rock-chick and I definitely feel that the Aria Iris & Ink belted suede and leather dress ticks all those boxes.

I love that the combination of leather and suede really does make this a more contemporary take on the leather dress, it makes it a lot more comfortable to wear and I adore that you can nip in the waist with the belt, which I switched up for a skinny leather number as the dress was a little big the suede belt it came with wasn’t working for me.

The Iris & Ink collection at The Outnet has long been a favourite of mine, it is basically filled with timeless, quality wardrobe essentials and I love that I was able to style up this beauty for my blog. One of the areas that has been expanding for the label has to be the accessories, first it was oversized pouches to style up as a cool clutch and this season they have added some gorgeous leather pieces, my favourite being the ‘Camden’ Iris & Ink leather backpack, which you can wear as a backpack or as a bucket handbag, dependant on how you feel and what you are wearing.

There is a lot of love at the moment for bucket bags, they are everywhere, and what I love about this one is its versatility and how it works two trends – backpack and bucket bag, plus it is made from the dreamiest of leathers. It is also super roomy, I do love a bag that can carry all my stuff plus my big SLR. After test driving this beauty I don’t think any other bucket bag will quite cut it, I love that when it is super heavy that you can just change it up and wear it as a backpack. I think this beauty is a fashion week must.

Are you on the hunt for something off your wardrobe essentials list?

Shopping: The Outnet’s 5th Birthday Collection

The-Outnet-5th-birthday-3

Can you believe that The Outnet is only 5 years old? For me it seems to have been around for as long as its higher-end, exclusive big sister Net-a-Porter, and it really has come a long way since its days as just a clearance outlet. Yeah it has always been the place to go for a designer bargain but the past 18-months or so I have really found it a go-to site when shopping for any occasion, not only for discounted gear but also for its Iris & Ink in-house collection of luxury staples and its accessories are always so incredible, my last few designer handbags have come from The Outnet.

So to celebrate its 5th Birthday, The Outnet has teamed up with 17 amazing designers including Alexander McQueen, Balmain, Chloé and J.W.Anderson to produce a collection featuring their re-issued, best-loved pieces and I basically want everything!!!

A few weeks ago I got to check out the collection, basically imagined spending away my wedding fund, and styled up a few of my favourite pieces, which is hard when the line also includes Oscar de la Renta, Jason Wu, Nicholas Kirkwood and Haizhen Wang and starts at just £130.

Of course I instantly fell in love with the accessories – the Squeeze It’ patent-leather Alexander McQueen clutch is to-die-for, I love it so much and the £357 price-tag isn’t bag for a classic piece like this, and pair it with those Nicholas Kirkwood panelled suede heels for £318 and you have some killer accessories to jazz up any look. I also loved the classic dark-brown Chloé wedges, a bargain at £225, I think these will be an instant sell-out, as will the statement Oscar de la Renta resin and gold-tone floral necklace, £265.The-Outnet-5th-birthday-2

If I had to pick a look from the collection that I would love to wear I think it would have to be the Haizhen Wang black leather jacket, the shape at the back is gorgeous, teamed with the romantic floral-print silk-jacquard Jason Wu dress, paired with those stunning Nicholas Kirkwood heels, and the bold red Oscar de la Renta necklace. I would love to throw in the McQueen clutch but that might just be a little too much!!!

There were also a couple of great looks to wear to a summer wedding for an elegant affair why not try Roland Mouret’s sky-blue O’Hara dress, the colour and fit of this dress is perfection, I really love the folded neck detailing and exposed zip down the back. While a cool, hip wedding you could go for this fun printed silk and moiré pencil Preen by Thornton Bregazzi skirt, team with a white blouse or a crisp white T-shirt and bright accessories.

There are just so many options with this fabulous limited edition collection, but trust me don’t wait around long I think most of these pieces will be instant sell-outs.

Which The Outnet 5th Birthday collection pieces do you have your eye on?

Clothes I Love: Red Valentino Butterfly Print Dresses

RedValentino-butterflies-2

Spring is in the air, perhaps not as much today with the rain, but at the weekend I most certainly enjoyed the sun, I even went and visited the local farm to see all their adorable lambs, and it has got me think about wearing dresses without tights, embracing colour and sitting on the grass watching the world go by.

All that just equals Red Valentino, which I have only just found out stands for Romantic Eccentric Dress, and I call myself a fashion blogger!!! Valentino’s diffusion line is just pretty, always fun with a feminine edge of ruffles, great prints and classic styles. As well as doing amazing dresses I am also loving the handbags and shoes – everything about the label is just gorgeous.

The spring/summer collection is just divine, but the pieces that really stand out for me have to be the butterfly print dresses in vibrant pink and summery yellow – don’t they just make you want to have a romantic picnic with your man and enjoy champagne and strawberries?

My favourite has to be the pink one, which is technically not a dress, rather a pleated skater skirt with a matching long-sleeve shirt, but paired together it really does make a statement that just needs sunshine and great company.

Do you love the oversized Red Valentino butterfly prints?

Love Red Valentino but looking for a more purse friendly price, well you need to check out the amazing selection on The Outnet with most of the pieces half price – here are a few of my favourites:

Wardrobe Essentials: Iris & Ink SS14 Collection

IRIS-&-INK-SS14

I am a lover of high quality basics, they fill in the gaps of any woman’s wardrobe, and The Outnet’s in-house label, Iris & Ink is one of favourites to pick up a great jumper, shirt and leather skirt. It is basically a line filled with wardrobe essentials and for spring/summer 2014 the collection has exploded and is its biggest ever, which is good news for every woman out there.

Everything in the collection is an investment piece from the leather staples such as the pleated skirt to the fashion-forward items like the suede shirt dress that will jazz up anyone’s day, to the essential cashmere jumpers that literally come in every shade of the rainbow to the beautifully tailored trousers and shirts. I am crushing over the whole collection.

The prices are around the high-end high street end, think Whistles, Reiss and Karen Millen, but there are some bargains to be had in the collection as well – I think the straight-leg pants with black piping for £95 is a great addition to any wardrobe, as is the leopard print sweater for £110, and the semi-sheer washed-silk shirt for £98 can be dressed up or down.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a wardrobe filled with gorgeous cashmere sweaters, white shirts, leather skirts and stripy tops.
