Shopping: The Hunger Games Capitol Couture Collection At Net-a-Porter

At the weekend I finally saw The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the highly anticipated second film in the trilogy, and it certainly lived up to the hype and stayed true to the book. As well as making a star out of Jennifer Lawrence, the film has also catapulted costume designer Trish Summerville into the limelight with her fabulous fashion choices for the likes of Katniss and Effie.

The second film didn’t disappoint me on the fashion front, I loved Katniss’ updated hunting gear with knitwear wraps over her leather jacket, her sporty Lucas Hugh gear and the gorgeous wedding dress that turned into a mockingjay, but most of all I adored the crazy, OTT fashion choices of Effie, and it was lovely to see my Barbie doll’s outfit on the big screen!!!

Well it seems that Net-a-Porter also loved Trish Summerville’s choices as the luxury online retailer has teamed up with the movie’s production company, Lionsgate to create a collection based on the movie.

Called ‘Capital Couture’, the 19-piece collection features everything from jewellery to statement sweatshirts, dresses and even replicas of the Hunger Games sporty looks. Ranging in price from £60 to £800, there is something to meet everyone’s price point, and I think the t-shirts and sweatshirts are going to be the first to sell out.

I saw the collection last week and I loved the leather jacket, super soft and a classic piece, as well as the the bow and arrow ear cuff, and the ‘Girl on Fire’ sweatshirt.

Below are my favourite pieces, which would you love to add to your wardrobe?

Dior Overload: Jennifer Lawrence’s Hunger Games Tour

Rome Premiere

It was kind of a given that for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire promo tour that Jennifer Lawrence, who is the face of Miss Dior, would wear pieces from the French fashion house – but was anyone really expecting it to be every single premiere that she attended? From London to Berlin to Madrid to Rome to Paris to Los Angeles and finally to New York – each step of the tour a new Dior look to go with her pixie cut.

On first reflection I was disappointed, not one was customised, some even looked ill-fitted, and not one really wowed me as the star of the film should, to be honest I felt that Elizabeth Banks really took the fashion stakes away from the leading lady.

Then I decided to look at the looks together and I have to give it to Jennifer and her styling team that each look is different – we have sheer gowns, embroidered dresses, statement draping, and even outerwear glammed up for the red carpet.

Los Angeles Premiere

Los Angeles Premiere

My favourite is between the Los Angeles Dior Couture gown, where Jennifer wore a sheer grey knitted dress over a body showing off her great pins, the vanilla silk Dior Haute Couture dress that she wore to the Rome premiere, I just love the asymmetrical neckline, and the navy blue silk strapless dress in Madrid from the Dior Resort 2014 collection. I think what helps each of these looks is how fabulous her pixie cut looks – especially in Madrid where it reminded me of Cameron Diaz‘s hair in  ‘There’s Something About Mary’.

There were a few looks that I didn’t like, London mainly, that multicoloured-embroidered white silk dress was just unflattering and quite ageing on her, I actually preferred it when she put on the red coat. I also thought the Berlin Dior Haute Couture cotton and pale blue embroidered guipure coat was just boring compared to Elizabeth Bank’s shimmering Elie Saab, and New York was just a little underwhelming.

I understand that when an actress signs up as a face that she has to show a little loyalty, but I think this was a little over the top. I could understand if each look was designed specially for her, but they weren’t, granted she might have loved each and every look – but did anyone else just think that she had been paid to wear Dior for the premieres? Maybe I am being a little cynical, I am just gutted that she didn’t wear other designers, I just wanted so more from her this promo tour.

The Hunger Games: Elizabeth Banks In Versace

Who: Elizabeth Banks

Where: At the LA premiere of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles

Wearing: A strapless orange Versace gown, featuring gold detailing on the bodice, teamed with a copper box clutch and Jimmy Choo heels

Verdict: So I was already blown away by Elizabeth Bank’s amazing red carpet choices so far on this Hunger Games promo tour and I thought it would be hard to top the stunning Elie Saab gown, but this vibrant figure-hugging Versace gown is breathtaking.

Everything from the silhouette to the colour to the exquisite detailing on the bodice this is one gorgeous gown and it looks incredible on her – it really does show off her amazing body and I love how she finished off her look with a modern and fresh hairdo.

Do you prefer this orange beauty or the metallic glitz of the Elie Saab couture?

The Hunger Games: Elizabeth Banks Wows In Elie Saab & Alexander McQueen

So The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has taken on Europe ahead of its November 21 release, and we’ve already seen the stars hit London, Paris, Berlin, Madrid and Rome. For months I have been excited about the red carpet looks, Jennifer Lawrence completely wowed me when she was promoting the first movie in that gorgeous gold lame Prabal Gurung gown. But with Jennifer’s pixie crop, that I am not sure I like, and her constant need to wear Dior, for me the Catching Fire red carpet has all about Elizabeth Banks so far.

The actress who plays the flamboyant Effie in the film has completely blown me away with her red carpet fashion choices – from the gorgeous custom-made Jason Wu gown that she wore to the London premiere to the stunning embellished silver maxi in Berlin and the Alexander McQueen beauties in-between.

My favourite look so far has to be this metallic embellished Elie Saab Haute Couture gown from the autumn/winter 2013 collection. Everything about this dress is just perfection. Presented as a bridesmaid dress in the Haute Couture runway show, this gown is stunning – I love the ombre-effect to the embellished detailing and the sexy elegance of the sweetheart neckline. What I also adore is that the look is finished off perfectly with gorgeous drop earrings and wavy hair.

Another great look had to be her Paris premiere gown, a striking Alexander McQueen gown featuring colourful embroidery and beading to the neckline and waist with a feather belt. Not quite as glitzy as the Elie Saab but just as striking – I love the colourful neckline and the feathered detailing around the waist. Simply gorgeous.

What are your thoughts so far on The Hunger Games promo tour – have you been impressed with Elizabeth Bank’s red carpet looks?
