Fashion Week Diary: LFW SS15 – Day 3

Day 3 of fashion week always makes me think is it Sunday or Wednesday, I think it is because I never really work weekends and fashion week really does screw with your days. After a late start, I wasn’t feeling a hundred percent, I decided to opt out of my morning shows for much-needed rest and come in for the Temperley London show, which in previous years has been one of my favourite to attend.

To perk myself up I decided to wear a really fun tee that I was sent by Pret a Portobello ‘Wintour Is Coming’ that really did capture people’s attention including a very excited Japanese tourist at Kings Cross station. I decided to pair my tee with this cute blue print midi skirt from Reiss, the fit of it is perfect and I really love how it swishes when I walk, its the little things that really cheer me up when I am not feeling great. Finishing up my look are my chunky ankle boots from Quiz, they are super comfortable and I really love boots with feminine skirts.

I also think the whole look is even better with a luxe blow dry from Blow Ltd, I really am spoilt by The Apartment each season, I don’t know what I would do if I had to do my own hair during fashion week.

My Style: ‘Wintour is Coming’ T-shirt, Pretaportabella (c/o) // Skirt, Reiss (c/o) // Boots, Quiz (c/o) // Glasses, Karen Millen (c/o) // Bag, Russell & Bromley (loaned from The Apartment) // Watch, Caravelle New York (c/o) // Hair by Blow Ltd at The Apartment //

So the only show I went to, before I felt horrid again, was Temperley London. Concentrating on daywear like last season the show was just OK, I liked a lot of the floaty trench coats, the cool sunglasses, and the gorgeous pink hues. What I was sad about is that it was more about relaxed, casual, matching trouser set looks than red carpet drama, and that is probably because the designer has fused her mainline with her more day-centric Alice by Temperley range.

Don’t get me wrong everything was nice, even the fact that everything was paired with trainers that the designer is adding to her collection for the first time, I just don’t expect just nice from Alice Temperley, I want to wowed, speechless and excited to see exquisitely crafted red carpet worthy gowns that sparkle and that I can imagine on various A-list actresses.

I liked the laid-back, bohemian vibe of the collection, I just wanted to see the red carpet looks. I know I am picky. What did you guys think of the collection?

Video Loving: Temperley London’s Enchanted Summer

Temperley Summer Party 1

Every wondered what it was like inside Alice Temperley’s romantic, fairytale-filled world? Well this short film, shot by the designer’s brother Henry Temperley for Net-a-Porter does just that, by showing off her exquisite gowns as well as her stunning Somerset home in the lead up to her annual Enchanted Summer party.

Directed by Alice, the short film really is a gorgeous way to show off the designer’s limited edition Temperley London dresses, worn by some of the brand’s muses including Laura Bailey, Caroline Issa, and Jacquetta Wheeler, who are all wearing designs created exclusively for Net-a-Porter.

One of my favourite shows at London Fashion Week is always Temperley London, mainly because you are guaranteed plenty of gorgeous gowns to swoon over, and this video brings those exquisite pieces to life in such a beautiful, ethereal and fun way. I have to be honest I totally want to be on that guest list – that party looks fun.

But unlike other fashion films, this isn’t a campaign video, a behind-the-scenes of a fashion show, this is a moving-image boutique, as shoppers can click on the dresses or accessories they wish to buy and they will be added to their personal ’boutique’ all without interrupting the film. Net-a-Porter really do know how to get people shopping luxury fashion – but don’t blame me if you want everything you click on!!!

I love all the pieces from the folky floral embroidered skirts to the chiffon-appliquéd tulle gowns and the hot pink lace-paneled pleated crepe maxi dress, but for me it has to be all the wedding-worthy gowns that caught my eye, which isn’t a surprise given that the summer party had a White Magic theme.

LFW SS14: Temperley London ‘Sicily’

You are always guaranteed romantic, ethereal and beautiful gowns when attending at Temperley London catwalk show and spring/summer 2014 was no different. Inspired by dreams of a “Sicilian adventure” the collection was filled with ladylike elegance and glamour from knee-length to floor-sweeping red carpet ready gowns.

Of course there were many Princess moments from vibrant tiered raspberry beauties to delicate gowns embellished with silk flowers and crystals that of course would look perfect on the red carpet of any award ceremony. Then there were dresses featuring clashing prints of leopard print and delicate florals, and abstract prints of burgundy, pink and black that looked more like something Alexander McQueen would do than Alice Temperley.

As well as the exquisite red carpet dresses, that I am hoping Hollywood stylists will snap up for the up-coming Primetime Emmys, there was an elegant 50’s vibe with voluminous silhouette and the trapeze shapes in the tops and swing coats.

Of course I can see the Duchess of Cambridge taking her pick of the gorgeous dresses and coats, but I feel that this collection deserves more International recognition from Hollywood starlets. Of course actress Anna Kendrick, who was front row, is bound to wear Temperley on her next promo tour, but I can also see Diane Kruger wearing one of the clashing animal print and floral beauties and Nina Dobrev wearing one of the abstract knee-length dresses.

This collection was breathtaking and deserves to be showcased – here’s hoping that the top stylists start calling in pieces for their clients as these gowns deserve the glamour of flash bulbs and the red carpet.

I think this collection looks the best when in motion so I have put together one of my HTC Zoe highlight reels dedicated to the show:

LFW SS14: Day 3 – Princess Gowns, Donna Ida & Lulu Guinness

LFW-Day-3-highlight-2Sunday, the hump day of London Fashion Week, it is always the day I feel shattered after two days full of shows, but I always get up to head out to support fellow blogger Charlie May and see the gorgeous red carpet beauties from Temperley London, and one day I hope to add Mulberry, Topshop Unique and Mary Katrantzou to the list.

LFW-Day-3-highlight-3First up was Charlie May, presented at the St Martins Lane hotel it was all very civilised, no queuing up in the cold, no instead we were asked to relax in the bar area before being seated. The show itself was amazing, more to come in a separate blog post, but it was minimal and sleek with metallic touches and the shoes in collaboration with Hudson were incredible.

From there it was a trip back to The Apartment, it is so lovely having somewhere to chill between shows and this gorgeous apartment overlooking Covent Garden is out-of-this-world. Today, I chatted with the Pinterest guys, I love their fashion week hub and it was nice to be able to say thank you for including me, I also got some tips on how to improve my boards and how people are using the site, if you guys are interested I will put together a tip sheet on how to get the most out of the site.

I then did a quick photoshoot with Little Black Dress, strangely not wearing black but purple, for their website, before heading out the door to Temperley London, which was being staged in the ballroom at The Savoy. With a packed front row of Anna Kendrick, Paloma Faith, Jodi Kidd and Pixie Lott the show was fashionably 30 minutes late, which meant that the guys rushing off to Topshop even planned their escape routes, I kid you not!

LFW-Day-3-highlight-1The show itself was magical, filled with incredible princess gowns made for the red carpet and dreaming of award shows – here’s hoping that Hollywood stylists see the beauty of the collection and call the pieces in. It would be nice to see some of the gowns at the up-coming Emmys.

It seems weird that my last show of the day was before 5pm but it was nice to go home eat proper food, see my boyfriend, stroke my cats and crack on with my work – I currently have over a thousand pictures to go through.

For day 3 my outfit was all abut my new jeans from Donna Ida, my new love of animal print, and my need to find an outfit to go with this quirky kitty cat hat from Claire’s. First up lets discuss these jeans, they are Ida by Donna Ida, yep the queen of jeans has her own collection and they are amazing. Not only are my Mabel’s the best fitting skinnies I have ever had, but they have received so many complements that I feel amazing wearing them.

LFW-Day-3-My-Style-2 LFW-Day-3-My-Style-4As my Mabel’s are ankle grazing skinnies I paired them with my animal print Ugg Australia loafers, which surprised everyone when I told them who they were by, and to keep the leopard print going I also carried my new Lulu Guinness Izzy satchel that I spent the day protecting from the rain as it is too pretty to get wet!!!

My Style: Mabel skinny jeans, Ida by Donna Ida (c/o) // Black shirt, River Island // Blazer, Dorothy Perkins // Leopard print loafers, UGG Australia (c/o) // Izzy satchel, Lulu Guinness (c/o) // Kitty hat, Claire’s (c/o – the LFW Apartment) // Glasses, Retro54 (c/o) // Gold necklace, New Look //

LFW SS13: Day 3 – A Flash Of Colour, Blogger Love and A Balcony View

Sunday’s are always the hardest, two days of back-to-back shows and I am a little tired and all I want to do is snooze, but today I dragged my arse out of bed in the name of fashion. Today was a little quieter for me, it was mainly about catching up on work, supporting a fellow blogger, and then ending the day with a flurry of red carpet dresses from Alice Temperley.

First stop of the day and the reason for my early start was The Apartment for the Vodafone breakfast, it was really nice meeting the PR and marketing team, finding out about their new London Fashion Week app, fingers crossed they release it for next fashion week as it looked cool, and also talking about plans for the Mary Katrantzou partnership, which is still very much at the early conversation stage. If Richard Nicoll’s rechargeable bag is anything to go by it is going to be great.

Then it was off to support Charlie May, an uber-stylish blogger in her first catwalk show. Last season Charlie did a presentation which I sadly missed but this was an intimate catwalk show like no other I had ever been too. The wine cellars of the Stafford Hotel venue was incredible, it was so adorable it only had three rows on one side and the runway could only fit one model down at a time, which was better for us as once down they played statues and it looked amazing.

My pictures aren’t amazing, but the collection was minimalist with incredible tailoring for such a young designer, and my highlight had to be the finale light caramel evening gown its leather bodice and wrap skirt was gorgeous. Oh, and I can’t forget the accessories, incredible Kat Maconie shoes and quirky retro sunglasses from Zan Zan – Charlie May is definitely a name for the future.

A quick stop back at The Apartment for food, you could tell it was Wagamamas day as the place was packed. A snack, a read of The Daily, and a peak on social media sites and I was back out the door to Temperely London.

I was super excited about seeing the Temperley London show, more so when I found out my view was the amazing balcony at Grant Connaught Rooms along with my blogger pals. It was great seeing a show straight on, literally we were above the photography pit and it was amazing seeing Alice Temperley’s spring/summer 2013 collection.

Entitled “return to elegance” it certainly was gorgeous, I loved the nipped in waists, the sheer panels, the bee-keeper hats, and the printed dresses. This collection I am sure will be hitting press promo tours very soon and of course will be seen shortly on the brand’s most famous un-official ambassador the Duchess of Cambridge.

Looking for my flash of colour from my look of the day? Well, I am going to own up, I totally forgot to take it. I don’t know what happened, but trust me it wasn’t black, it was actually bright orange.

LFW SS13: My London Fashion Week Essentials…Well Some Of Them

Today is London Fashion Week eve, which can only mean that I am in a slight panic over my wardrobe options, doing last minute shopping, organising my schedule, chasing last minute tickets, and most importantly laying out all the essentials I need to carry around with me.

I wont bore you in detail in how much I carry around, think of a packhorse and you won’t be too far out, I generally pack everything the first day and each day my bag gets lighter and lighter as I just can’t carry it!!!

First up, the bag, each season I choose one core bag that I use more often than not, and I mix in a few of my favourites as the mood takes me. This season I have been treated with a Knomo leather bag, I am planning on doing a more detailed post about this incredible bag, but here are the highlights – this bag has its own padded laptop compartment, it can fit in all these essentials and more, it is cute, I love that she is called ‘Alice’, and I don’t think I have ever had a more chic laptop bag. This beauty is perfect for fashion week.

Gadgets and technology are high on my essentials list, I definately need to stay connected throughout fashion week and these help me along the way. I have my laptop, my iPad – new toy that I adore, my HTC One X, which I can’t live without, my incredible Olympus camera, and I picked up a tiny gadget from eBay that allows me to transfer piccies to my iPad for easy upload on the go. That will all keep me on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.

From technology to old school, I can’t leave the house without my Filofax, I had been using my bright yellow beauty, but then Filofax asked if I would like one of the new Temperley for Filofax Violet organisers to try out, which isn’t even in the stores yet, and of course I jumped at the chance – this is a gorgeous diary. Then I have my new ‘bunting’ notepad that my friend Sarah sent me, which goes perfectly with my Bic two-way pen, I do love a pink pen, and I don’t leave to an event without my Fashionista Barbie business cards – well you don’t know who you might meet!!!

Rushing around for 10 hours straight means you do need to refresh your make-up, as I have such a large bag I always go for a colourful cosmetic pouch, and you don’t get brighter than the amazing range from Candy Store – inside I just carry the essentials foundation, mascara, eye shadow, bronzer and concealer.

Changing conditions is what you have to get used to with fashion week, different venues means different temperatures, so I always carry a scarf, this season I have gone with a horse print. The last few essentials range from Carmex to handcream, headache tablets and then I have my new Barbie coffee cuff from Clippy, yes this season at London Fashion Week even my cuppa will be fashionable!!!

I have a hectic few days coming up, so Fashionista Barbie might be a little slow on the updates, I will try between shows but my schedule is packed this season with some amazing backstage access and I have even got tickets to Temperley London and House of Holland that I have never received before so I am super excited.

Just finishing up this post and I realised I haven’t actually put my tickets in my fashion week essentials – now that would be crazy to forget them!!!

What would your fashion week essentials be?

War Horse: Catherine Middleton In Alice Temperley

Who: Catherine Middleton, The Duchess of Cambridge

Where: At the world premiere of DreamWorks Pictures’ War Horse directed by Steven Spielberg at the Odeon Leicester Square

Wearing: A custom black lace floor-length Temperley London gown with plunging neckline, teamed with a black velvet Pretty Ballerina by Mascaró clutch with bow detailing

Verdict: With today being the Duchesses 30th birthday, first up Happy Birthday Catherine, secondly how I love that she has revived lace.

There is something so romantic and racy about lace all at the same time that I just love, and having this dress with a black lace overlay with a plunging neckline it is just perfection for me. This is a gorgeous red carpet dress, that has a sexiness about it as well as regal glamour. I know that some are saying it is old-fashioned, but I love it.
