The Grammy Awards are notorious for being a bit of a hit-and-miss red carpet, mainly because singers it seems like sheer, cut-outs, and generally plunging, anything for a little attention. For most it doesn’t work, it is generally so bad you have to laugh, but as I don’t like to focus on the negative, lets rejoice in the fact that there were a handful of beauties that pulled off amazing looks. Here are my best dressed ladies from the 2015 Grammy Awards:
After the disappointed red carpet at last year’s Punk-themed Met Gala I was thrilled that this year’s event was celebrating Charles James the master courtier that really understood drama, sculpture, class, and what makes a great red carpet dress – generally something huge that makes a statement – so I am pleased that the celebs attendees really honoured his vision.
One of my favourite looks had to be Reese Witherspoon in this strapless Barbie-pink Stella McCartney gown. Everything from the colour to the sculptured take on the sweetheart neckline to the way it contoured her body and the slight train, everything about this look is perfection.
If the dress wasn’t enough to make me squeal with excited her Hollywood glamour hair and make-up sure would, the Oscar-winning star was simple flawless, I just loved the matching hot pink lips. I can’t believe that this is Reese’s first time at the Met Gala – this is a great debut look.
There were many hues of pink on the night and two came from Stella McCartney, to complement Reese’s hot pink gown, the gorgeous Kate Bosworth looked divine in this dusky pink slinky spaghetti strap dress. Her statuesque model figure really pulls off this great dress, which has sexy little cut-outs under the bust. But as much as I love the dress it is the styling of the accessories and hair-do that I adore the most – I love that she wasn’t afraid to add sparkle!!!
Combining an element of both Reese’s and Kate’s looks was Emma Stone who look modern, young and fabulous in this striking-yet-simple custom two-piece pink and magenta, colour-block Thakoon ensemble. What I love is that it isn’t a ballgown, I know that was kind of the theme of the night and this look might not quite have cut it, but for me Emma showed a contemporary look that still honoured Charles James with the flowing wrap skirt. Plus with hair like that she definitely had to be featured – love, love, love!!!
One last pink look that caught my attention was Taylor Swift who wore a custom blush pink embellished satin Oscar de la Renta gown teamed with Lorraine Schwartz jewellery. While the front of this gown was exquisite, well it was crafted by Oscar de la Renta and embroidered with gold sequins, pearl beads and rose metallic leaves, for me this gown was all about the drama in the back – check out that fabulous bow and train. Stunning in an Old Hollywood glamour kind of way.
It is hard to choose who wins the battle of the pink, but I think Reese in that stunning hot pink number just gets it. Who was your favourite girl in pink?
Who: Taylor Swift
Where: At the 49th Annual Academy Of Country Music Awards held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas
Wearing: A custom J. Mendel silk crepe ivory top featuring cut-out panels to the shoulders and a black asymmetrical skirt with thigh-high split, teamed with gold jewellery, black Casadei strappy heels and a gold and black clutch
Verdict: Normally at these type of events Taylor works something romantic, normally glittery, with a very girlie vibe as the country star darling that she is. Don’t get me wrong she always looks stunning, she is gorgeous, but I really love that she went for something different with this custom J. Mendel look.
Opting for just the right amount of skin in this cut-out crop top and thigh-high split skirt this is a very edgy look for Taylor, maybe it is an attempt to stop people calling her style boring, or maybe she just decided to try something new – whatever made her go for this custom midriff showing look I am pleased she did.
As well as loving the look, I adore the styling the black and gold accessories works perfectly and those earrings are incredible. Also top marks to her glam squad her hair and make-up is flawless – she really is a stunner.
What do you think of Taylor’s latest red carpet look?
Who: Taylor Swift
Where: At the Golden Globe Awards 2013, held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California
Wearing: A dark plum taffeta Donna Karan Atelier gown that features a low back, dramatic train, and panels in mesh ombre from nude to dark plum which contour the body, teamed with statement Lorraine Schwartz blackened platinum, diamond and ruby earrings
Verdict: Wow, wow, wow – seriously this girl needs to get dumped more often as being newly single has really made her red carpet looks better.
Donna Karan knows how to make gorgeous gowns but she also understands young starlets and this is modern, fresh and sexy and is easily Taylor’s best ever look. Everything from the colour to the sexy low back and the mesh panel down the side – I am so pleased that this dress made it onto the red carpet as it is truly stunning.
I also have to point out her statement earrings, which was another trend from this year’s Golden Globes red carpet, they perfectly match the dress and occassion.
But what makes this look gorgeous is her attitude she really worked it on the red carpet if she hadn’t this dress wouldn’t have worked.
Great job Donna Karan you’ve made me a fan of Taylor Swift!!!
