LFW SS14: Lucas Nascimento – Undressed

LFW-SS14-LucasNascimento-10There is a lot of buzz surrounding young Brazilian designer Lucas Nascimento – he is a designer to watch for the future and this season is his first showing as part of Topshop’s NewGen scheme, which has helped propel the careers of many LFW stars including Michael Van Der Ham and Mary Katrantzou.

Inspired by film stills of Brigitte Bardot in Jean Luc Goddard’s ‘Le Mepris’ wearing just a bath towel, his spring/summer 2014 collection took the idea of being caught in a state of undressing as a starting point. This was shown through the styling of the collection, with the straps of the slip dresses falling off the models shoulders, and the use of technical silk jacquard imitating towelling in knitted dresses and skirts.

The concept worked well on the darker pieces, particularly the black knitted wrap dresses, which came in knee and ankle length, and the bright yellow, however when the designs were showcased in a light blue they looked too much like an actual towel.

For me the stand out pieces had to be the cocoon jackets, especially the orange one, the sexy white dresses in superfine Japanese plongé leather, the tiered dresses and the paired back tailoring.

I can’t wait to see how this young designer’s career evolves.

Lookbook Love: Christian Louboutin Goes Fishing

We’ve seen Christian Louboutin heels as works of art, gracing the red carpet, and now the famous red soles have been depicted in fishing scenes for the brand’s spring/summer 2013 lookbook shot by Peter Lippmann.

What I love other than the fact it the imagery is eye-catching and makes you double-take, has to be the way the shoes and jewelled clutch really do pop against the haunted-yet-beautiful scenery of the river.

Who would have though that luxury shoes would look incredible displayed as fishing bait?

Primark – Spring/Summer 2013

I hold my hands up I am a fan of Primark, I love the bargain prices, I love that it is the perfect place to try out a trend, I love that because it is so cheap and so quick to bring out fashion-forward pieces that means you can experiment with your wardrobe, and I love that it is a great place to pick out a statement necklace.

I know for some the stores with the mess, the crowds and ridiculously long queues can be a little off-putting, I find the same with bargain stores such as TK Maxx, but when you have found the perfect store, the best time to go, and figured out your perfect Primark size I find it a pleasure to shop in. I generally stick with Cambridge, London stores are hectic and tourist traps, and I love the calm of a Sunday morning.

Previous seasons have seen Primark putting their spin on the current catwalk trends, and that still exists for spring/summer 2013 but I felt that the design team had been let loose a little bit more this season and brought their own ideas to the table, especially when it came to their festival collections as apparently the team all went to Coachella for research – can’t be bad hey.

It feels so long ago tht I went to the press day, but key pieces still stick in my mind, the leather and denim jacket, the bone china printed dresses, the statement necklaces, and the gorgeous heels. There were also a lot of sporty influences with slouchy jumpers and slogan tees – I love the Dork one, very Saved By The Bell.

Django Unchained: Kerry Washington In Louis Vuitton

kerry washington, louis vuitton, Django Unchained, SS13, Berlin

Who: Actress Kerry Washington

Where: At the photocall for her latest movie Django Unchained in Berlin, Germany

Wearing: A white and ivory chequered calf-length Louis Vuitton dress from the spring/summer 2013 collection, styled with a white Louis Vuitton bow headband, a tiny Vince Camuto clutch and white Christian Louboutin heels

Verdict: I wasn’t sure when I first saw Louis Vuitton’s spring/summer 2013 collection, then I went to see the pieces up-close at their press day and I don’t know what happen I fell in love with the chequered effect, and this dress really stood out.

I have been waiting to see it on the red carpet as I wondered if the styling would translate and I am so pleased to say it does and that is all down to Kerry Washington really embracing the calf-length and that adorable bow headband.

There is a fresh feel about Kerry in this look that I love and I am also adoring her doll-like Vince Camuto clutch – the most darling bag I have ever seen on the red carpet, which works perfectly with the large chequered print.

I am sure this look will be a little like Marmite for some but I am loving it – what do you think of Kerry’s latest look?
