Shopping: The Print Overload Edition

One of the biggest trends this summer has to be prints, whether it is the retro car print inspired by Prada, or the scarf trend seen on the catwalks at D&G, or even a splash of florals, zig-zags, animal or tribal prints, there are colourful prints for everyone this season.

How you wear it is totally up to you, be bold and work your print head-to-toe as seen as Proenza Schouler, or just go for a little print magic by working printed trousers with a pastel or white tee, or do it the other way round and wear a bold printed luxe t-shirt with skinny jeans. Or why not go for an extra dose of prints by following Sportsmax’s approach and go for clashing prints – trust me, not for the faint-hearted!!!

Want to try the trend? Well here are a few of my favourite picks:

A Postcard From: Olivia Rubin For Dorothy Perkins

Yesterday I got the chance to finally check out the Olivia Rubin for Dorothy Perkins collection, which I have been dying to see since I found out about the collaboration at the brand’s spring/summer press day last year, and OMG I love it all.

This is one beautifully executed designer high street collaboration, not only is it instantly recognisable as Olivia Rubin with the fun prints, the sexy silhouettes of the dresses and tops with peplums and wrap details, the funky separates with key-hole detailing and cut-outs, and the gorgeous bright pink hues that Olivia is known for, but it has a Dorothy Perkins feel to it with the flattering designs and most importantly the affordable prices, as nothing in the collection costs more than £50, which is seriously amazing when you see some of the dresses.

Inspired by memories of her travels, this debut high street collection for DP entitled ‘A Postcard From’ is basically all about summer fun, and with more than 20 pieces in the collection there really is something for everyone, from: the gorgeous high-end bird print chiffon maxi dresses in either a hot Barbie pink or a soft grey for £45, or how about a shell printed peplum top for £25 that is supper flatter and is so on trend right now, and then there is the awesome beach inspired statement jewellery with shell earrings, bracelets and necklaces, which starts at just £7.50.

Oh and nearly forgot this collection also includes Olivia’s first foray into swimwear with the cutest gold shell print bikini and an uber-flattering swimsuit that I need for summer.

I can’t express enough how much I loved each and every piece, I have to say this is one gorgeous collection that when it comes out next Tuesday I can envisage selling out pretty quickly.

Some of my favourite pieces:

So if you like it as much as I do, get yourself down to one of DP’s top 25 stores from Tuesday, April 24 – think London – Stratford, Marble Arch, Victoria, Westfield, and West One; Manchester Arndale and Trafford Centre; Birmingham High Street; Bluewater; Lakeside; as well as Belfast, Dublin, Leeds, Bristol, Glasgow, Sheffield, Gateshead, Newcastle, Portsmouth, and Southampton.

Need more convincing that this is a fab collection? Well prices start at just £7.50 and the highest priced item is £49 for a bird print peplum dress. Plus the sizes range from 8-18. Be quick as once it is gone it is gone, this is a strictly limited edition collection, which will be coming back for autumn/winter – yeah!!!

SS12 Campaign: Diesel Torches Barbie Dollshouse

I went to the Diesel autumn/winter 2012 press day yesterday, all about coloured jeans, gorgeous knits and huge bags *I will put piccies on  my Facebook soon*, but while there I spotted the current spring/summer 2012 campaign by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, ‘Portraits for Successful Living’, and I was shocked to see them burning Barbie!!!

OK, I am being a little dramatic but what a weird campaign, leggy models torching dollshouses, a denim clad model canoodling a robot, another one trampling on a potted plant, and there is even one playing peek-a-boo in a safe. I get that Diesel is a little bit out there with their advertising but has anyone else spotted these adverts and thought WTF is going on???

The one I do love however has to be the two leggy models doing tug-of-war, those bleached blue flares are HOT!!!

I’ve put the rest of the campaign images on my Facebook page – let me know what you think of Diesel’s latest campaign?

Clutch Lust: Gorgeous Laser-Cut Leather Lace

I love bags, I generally have one in every colour, and all are various sizes of big, bigger and huge – it seems small isn’t really in my vocabulary when it comes to buying handbags. But what I have discovered lately is that tiny is beautiful and I think it is my need for  a clutch for all occasions that is driving my latest shopping obsession.

I find that when it comes to teaming my going out outfits with accessories jewellery is covered, even shoes, but I always pass on the bag because I have nothing suitable, which means that I generally just take my phone. Lately however, mainly due to a friends wedding looming this summer I have been thinking I need to invest in one kick-arse clutch, and my first option that I have falling in love with is this oh-so-feminine creamy laser-cut leather lace Be&D clutch. Gorgeous isn’t it!!!

The mix of taupe leather and laser-cut leather lace has just the right mix of glamour, drama, and intrigue to make it a clutch that can work with generally any outfit – from a uber-sophisticated occasion to dressing up jeans, a top, and kick-arse heels – I reckon this beauty might be perfect for me.

It is from Be&D’s spring/summer 2012 collection and hasn’t hit the brands website yet, but its other envelope-style clutches are around the $200 mark, I reckon with all the intricate detailing this might be double that but in terms of investment potential I am going to add it to my wishlist!!!

As well as the snaps I took in the Greene & Sheppard showroom, including the matching tote bag, which is also gorgeous I have also included the image from the lookbook – mainly because I am intrigued by the strange concept of using fashion clowns. But even with this creepy shot I am still loving this clutch.
