My Style: Superhero Denim Shorts

For a long time denim shorts have scared me, you see my thighs are not ideal for shorts in generally but certainly not bum-skimming denim ones, well that was until this summer when the high street finally added those extra few inches – yeah for everyone over a size 8!!!

They might be called Mom and Boyfriend shorts but I don’t care, they cover my arse, thank god, they fit around my chunky thighs, and the best bit is that they are high-waisted, so cover a multitude of sins while still being summery. It is like all my previous years of hoping to find the perfect pair of denim shorts have finally been answered.

Asos have some beauties, as does Topshop and New Look **see below for my top 10**, but it seems that everyone else has gone crazy for this style that my size always seems to be out, so I snapped up these ripped boyfriend shorts from River Island when I saw them.

I did buy them for my honeymoon, did I mention I get married in 3 months – probably – sorry, but with the lovely weather we have been having I decided to give them a test run at our local kite festival. As they are the superhero of all denim shorts it seemed only fitting to pair them with my fun superhero T-shirt that I picked up at Primark, it seems I can’t resist a statement tee and this one is perfect for a sunny afternoon.

Finishing off my look are my trusty Calvin Klein sunglasses, I love that they are so big, and my new Sorel festival-loving boots, they are just perfect for wandering across the rough terrain of the heath to see all the fabulous kites – the horse one was definitely my favourite.

Have you found your perfect pair of denim shorts?

My Style: Festival-Inspired Floral Love Affair

What is your go-to festival look?

Mine would probably be skinny jeans/denim shorts, a vintage rock tee, a bold floral kimono, some wellies and a few statement pieces of jewellery that I would probably have picked up from Primark. For this season, with the weather being a little warmer, I thought I would channel my girlie side and opt for a fun and flirty dress, pops of colour, of course sensible but cool footwear, and a statement headpiece, well it wouldn’t be a festival without wearing something silly now would it.

What I love about this look, other than how happy this tropical print shirtdress makes me from Gap, even when it starts to rain, has to be how comfortable I am not wearing wellington boots. I have a problem with not being able to find wellies that fit me well, they are always too big around the ankle, I seem to not be able to walk properly and they make my feet ache, maybe it is because I haven’t invested in quality, but I was so pleased to try out Sorel’s Slimshortie style. They are kind of part cowboy, part biker, with their full-grain waterproof leather they can take on any challenges of a festival, plus they will look great in winter as well.

To tie my boots into my look I added a tan belt, which really nips in this cute dress, and then to add a summer pop I went for this fun pompom headpiece from Asos, which is currently in the sale so snap it up quick, I just thought it looked perfect with my new specs from Kite, the yellow Shore Projects watch and my Rebecca Minkoff bag.

What do you think – would you wear this to a festival? Also have you tried out Sorel’s Slimshortie boots?

Video Loving: Sorel Like You Never Seen Them Before

I love boots and the cosier the better for me, which is probably why I raved about the autumn/winter collection from Sorel back in June, and now my favourite boot the Tofino is the star of the brand’s latest video.

I have to prepare you this isn’t a video full of outdoor shots and snow, which you might stereotype with a brand like Sorel, no this is one clever and very stylish video to promote its fashion-forward approach with the amazing Tofino boot in Chili Pepper.

My love for chandeliers is growing, as is the need for me to wear a very glamorous gown and fur-trimmed boots!!!

AW11 Press Day: Sorel Will Keep Me Warm

Things I love: being warm and shaggy boots!! Which means Sorel is like shopping porn!

I know with the sun shining it is hard to see why I am getting excited, but come winter you are going to love that I introduced you to this amazing brand. First up, the brand is Canadian, so come on if you need a nation who know about cold surely it is them, and what I didn’t know is that they launched back in 1962, which means they’ve been keeping feet warm for nearly 50 years!

For autumn/winter 2011, my favourite *top pic* has to be the Tofino, I love how Sorel combines keeping warm with style and rugged beauty, and these red ones are gorgeous. I can see myself wearing these in the snow for après-ski as well as with jeans and a parka, they have so much potential.

I also love the cool names that some of the boots have as well; you can wear ‘Joan of Arctic’, a modern classic; or how about ‘Cate the Great’, named after a Russian Empress and inspired by a pair of Creewinter moccasins – LOVE!!!!

Need more reasons to love Sorel? Did I mention that they have been seen keeping celebs Elle Macpherson, Gwen Stefani and Kate Hudson warm. Seriously cool brand.

Where to buy you ask?? Well head on down to Schuh, Office, or Sole Trader.

Which are you favourites?

AW11 Press Day: Schuh Takes To The Slopes

Schuh is always one of my favourite press days as they really bring creativity to their collections, and for autumn/winter 2011 it was no different, last season they took me to the park this time it was to the slopes. From the ski pass invite to the fake snow surrounding the boots, and even a ski lodge dispensing the now legendary pack lunch, I loved that mine had a mini toblerone in it – I know easily pleased!!

As you would expect for the winter Schuh has a very strong selection of boots, from heeled hiking boots to buckled wedge boots, gorgeous equestrian-inspired boots, and a great selection of flat ankle boots.

These Schuh Porto Riding Boot will be my first purchase for the new season, I love them so much, especially the two-toned ones. Also they are only £100, that is such a good price, trust me when you touch how soft the leather is you will also want them.

New for this season the store has also added Sorel to their expansive list of brands, which means I am very happy as they are my favourite snow boots. Think rugged and super warm, I adore the red Tofino style above.

Last season my statement shoe was the Miu Miu-inspired heel, and for AW11 it has to be this sparkly disco ankle boot, if you are after bling then this is the shoe for you.

These Pretty Glitter Heel Court, £65, look amazing in turquoise but they also come in pink and black suede.

Red heels are everywhere for autumn, think Wizard of Oz sparkly, these Hush Puppies Noella Glitter heels are exclusive to Schuh and they are only £60. I love the ribbon laces.

What I love about Schuh is the variety, you can buy flats, work shoes, boots, party heels and they also have the best choice of canvas trainers. These exclusive Converse All Star Rainbow Print hi-tops are going on my wish list, super cute and only £43. I’m also crushing over the shearling Converse All Star X Hi II, which you can just see behind the rainbow ones, a little bit more at £66, but I reckon you can wear with so much more.

Once again Schuh has totally impressed me, I can’t wait for all the new styles to hit the shops. I am also looking forward to their new store to open at Westfield Stratford in September!!!
