Met Gala 2013: The Stars Who Embraced ‘Punk – Chaos To Couture’

Safe to say that a lot of celebrities and designers struggled with the punk fashion theme at this year’s Met Gala, some embraced the studs, fishnets, the safety pins, spikes and wrapped tape look, most went with heavier eye make-up than usual, some really took the theme to town, Madonna I am talking about you, while others just ignored it completely, Gwyneth I am pointing this in your direction, and some even made their hair the focus, oh hello Anne Hathaway’s bleached blonde hair-do!!!

Usually I do individual posts for the Met Gala much like my Oscar coverage, but this year I thought I would just do a round-up of my best dressed looks, and focus more on the stars that actually made punk high-fashion.

As you would expect with it being punk, there was a lot of black, not as much leather as I thought, but lots and lots of black. My favourite black look, and one of my favourites of the night, had to be Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev in Monique Lhuillier, a look featuring a leather and lace halter corseted bodice, black lace leggings and a tulle skirt, which was made perfectly punk with her incredible side-swept hair – seriously she so nailed it!!!

Coming in at a close second to Nina in the all-black category had to be Cara Delevingne in Burberry, as well as doing a great trench coat it seems that the British heritage brand also has a naughty side with this gorgeous and sexy spiked, plunging v-neck gown, which worked perfectly with her smokey dark eyes and sleek hair and her strong eye brows.

There were a lot of other black punk looks that caught my eye – Emma Watson in a revealing wrapped tape Prabal Gurung gown, Jennifer Lawrence in a polished Dior look, and Diane Kruger in Chanel, which was more grunge than punk but I did like the pink dip-dyed touch to her ponytail and spiked clutch. Then there were the blonde crop bombshells – Miley Cyrus and Anne Hathaway – who both looked incredible.

Sporting a slinky black mesh Marc Jacobs gown that Kate Moss has worn, I really liked Miley’s commitment to the theme and I think I am the only one who actually loved her OTT spiked hair. In contrast, Anne’s new blonde hair-do was more sleek and worked perfectly with her very revealing, gorgeously embellished vintage Valentino gown from 1992, which totally makes up for her Oscar look. I love that both totally went for it and I think it paid off.

But there was one look that completely blew me away and that had to be Sarah Jessica Parker wearing an incredible Philip Treacy mowhawk, a dark and moody paint-splatted printed Giles gown and incredible Christian Louboutin boots – now that is how you do punk fashion!!!

Bag Lust: The Yves Saint Laurent Cabas Chyc Tote

YSLCabasChyc1 Bag Lust: The Yves Saint Laurent Cabas Chyc Tote %tag

I do lust over designer handbags a lot and my latest obsession is Yves Saint Laurent’s Cabas Chyc leather tote that just exudes Parisian chic. Why am I loving this bag so much? Well for a tote I want a classic shape, something that it is sturdy and roomy, has a touch of elegance, and most of all something that can bridge the gap between casual to smart and everything in between *not asking for a lot then!*. Plus it is essential that a day tote is versatile.

The YSL Cabas Chyc certain is that. This roomy bag has a class about it, I love that the logo is a subtle ‘Y’, which doubles up as the buckle. I also appreciate a tote that can work in some many colours – this bag comes in every shade from the classic black, dark brown and beige, to vibrant red, magenta and ocean blue hues, and even has a subtle black leopard print and a very youthful black denim tote, which has a certain charm about it.

Don’t just take my word for it, this gorgeous tote seems to be the latest celebrity ‘It’ bag, seen on the arms of the likes of Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester, Aussie popstar Kylie Minogue, as well as Rihanna and the always stylish Sienna Miller. It also seems to be the go-to handbag for Hollywood elite as well as the Cabas Chyc has also been spotted with Nicole Kidman, Charlize Theron, and Salma Hayek.

The celebs may all go for the black and brown versions, which are great wardrobe staples and if you are going to spend over a thousand  pounds on a designer bag that then is probably the best to go for. But for me, I am just so in love with the midnight blue shade above, I don’t know why but this colour just looks so gorgeous against the gold accents, also I think it would work nicely with black, vibrant prints as well as a camel trench for the ultimate Parisian outfit. But at £1,195 from Net-a-Porter I better get saving!!!

LOVE Issue 4: Sienna Completes The Set As The Pin Up

love sienna LOVE Issue 4: Sienna Completes The Set As The Pin Up %tag

Pic: LOVE - Sienna Miller by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott

So it was only after I blogged The Mannequin, The Rebel and The Sweetheart yesterday I realised that I had only got seven covers and LOVE Issue 4 has eight, so it was only right for Sienna to complete the set.

Playing the role of The Pin Up, Sienna looks fab with vamped up make-up and hair, I love her smoky eyes and striking red lips – gorgeous.

But if with Sienna I think The Mannequin and The Siren are my favourites. Which one is your favourite?

Met Gala: Fashion Event Of The Year

I chose the most inappropriate time to get ill last week with the biggest event in the fashion calendar took place – the 2010 Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala, dubbed the ‘Oscars of Fashion’. The guest list was amazing as always, there was Sienna Miller’s first outing with Jude Law since they reunited, Anna Wintour dancing with Diddy, it was like a who’s who of the fashion world from Hollywood stars to models. There were amazing frocks, some fashion disasters and then there was my style icon Diane Kruger looking amazing as always. This year’s event, American Woman: Fashioning A National Identity, was sponsored by Gap and they teamed up with emerging designers Alexander Wang, Sophie Theallet and Rodarte – and got them to dress some of the hottest celebs including Jessica Alba, Kirsten Dunst and Zoe Kravitz.

Best Of The Young Hollywood Starlets has to be Gossip Girl actress Blake Lively in an amazing strapless Marchesa a/w10 frock with peacock draped chiffon teamed with Christian Louboutin heels. The Brits were out in force, Carey Mulligan went for an understated (very boring – not glamourous enough for me) Miu Miu frock, Sienna looking all loved up chose a Pucci and then there was Alexa Chung who decided to play the cool card as always in a tux by Philip Lim.

But for me Best Brit had to be Emma Watson looking gorgeous in a custom-made one-shoulder white Burberry frock (as the face of the brand she kind of should look amazing!).

Shimmering Goddess has to be Nicole Richie in this amazing silver Marc Jacobs, this frock stands out for all the right reasons and I love how she has teamed it with a black sash around the waist and an oversized black clutch – and her hair is fierce – love!! chloescelebutopia2 500x782 Met Gala: Fashion Event Of The Year %tag

There were lots of other delights Chloe Sevigny in a teal Proenza Schouler, Rachel Weisz in a beautiful ruffled pink Oscar de la Renta, Eva Mendes wore a Dolce & Gabbana flowery number, Jennifer Lopez went for the classic princess look in a couture gown by Zuhair Murad and Emma Roberts cute in a custom black organza Marni with a stone-embellished belt.

There were some frocks that I wasn’t keen on and the one in particular has to be singer’s Katy Perry in a glowing CuteCircuit gown which had over 3000 LEDs with silk chiffon creating a rainbow of colours. I am sure she did get some best dressed awards for this innovative dress but for me it just seems a little tacky.

As always Fashion Target Breast Cancer (FTBC) campaign always provides the perfect excuse to be charitable while looking fabulous, this year is no exception, and thankfully there isn’t a charity tee (it’s like the charity single a little over done!).

The FTBC have teamed up with the hottest shops and designers including Topshop, River Island and Superdry and are offering dresses, sunwear, accessories, tops, skirts and my favourite piece is this hot one-shoulder black dress by Olivia Rubin.

I couldn’t just leave you with Olivia’s dress – here are my other favourite pieces from the collection, I have to have the pom pom scarf and that funky travel card holder for my Oyster card.
