Donna Ida: The Ultimate Denim Boutique

IMG_20150219_155156

I’m a denim lover, I think my husband might say addict, and up until a few years ago I found it one of the most stressful shopping experiences, well until I discovered Donna Ida.

There is something about a wall of denim that excites me, the choices, the styles, the various hues of blue, but with all that excitement comes stress at all the options, and that is why shopping at Donna Ida really is a treat, the stress really is taken out of the equation. All the staff are so informed on all the different brands and styles, they can advise on what you would look good in, what’s on-trend, and they even encourage you to try something out of your comfort zone, which you will probably end up loving.

The best bit though, there is no judgement on size, I have come to understand by shopping at Donna Ida that you have to try on every pair of jeans, you won’t be the same size in every brand, it doesn’t mean you have put on weight if you find you are a size bigger, but I have to be honest it does feel good when you drop a few sizes.

Donna-Ida-Chelsea-12I’ve already gushed about how much I love Donna Ida’s own line, IDA, I basically live in them, especially in my Foggy London Rizzo, which are just the most comfortable pair of skinny jeans I own, I am a big fan of high-waisted. But as well as her own incredible line, the boutique also stocks great jeans by J Brand, James Jeans, Frame Denim, and Paige, all favourites of mine.

Donna Ida isn’t just about denim, the store is basically a one-stop-shop of things to wear with your jeans, think statement tees, slogan sweatshirts, and cute blouses from the likes of Blackscore, Wildfox, Bella Freud and Joie, as well as arm candy from MeMe London, and sunglasses by Linda Farrow and 3.1 Phillip Lim. Oh, and there is also a little sweetie shop, it is one of my favourite bits of my visit picking out my favourite sweets.

This week I went in to check out the new IDA spring/summer 2015 collection, which FYI is as dreamy as always. You have new colours, including a moss green ‘Mash’ hue **the ones I am wearing above with the most amazing Blackscore sweater** in my favourite style, Rizzo, as well as a cool black pair, and there is a new grey shade ‘Greystone’ for the Ivy.

There a few new styles as well including the relaxed ‘Downtown Dazzler’, a slim boyfriend style skinny denim in a distressed white or a vintage blue wash, this is pure California dreaming. Other notable additions include the ankle swinging ‘Kitty’ that has been influenced by the 70s and the ‘Adelaide’, a high-rise and super wide leg design that I can’t wait to come in so I can try them on as I love a good flare.

As well as all the high-rise, I am so on #TeamHigh, Ida has introduced low and mid-rise jeans to the range, with Honor, a low rise skinny with a 7” rise nearly making me want to switch sides, these are perfect as they are cut slightly higher in the back for a comfortable fit and they come in the most gorgeous blue and just the right about of rips and abrasions.

Are you a fan of Donna Ida?

So which team are you? #TeamHigh or #TeamLow?

Well Donna Ida wants to know, running alongside the General Election is the Donna Ida Denim Election where you can vote for your favourite! The final results will be announced on May 7, 2015 with one lucky voter winning a £1,000 IDA wardrobe.

Shop Her Style: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley In Marks & Spencer

So last night Rosie Huntington-Whiteley hit up a party celebrating her first fragrance with M&S Beauty wearing nothing more than a silk nightdress from her own Rosie for Autograph sleepwear collection for Marks & Spencer, and I have to be honest if you read that statement without seeing the pictures you might think she has lost her fashion mojo, but wow, Rosie really can wear anything and still look incredible.

OK, so we’ve seen lingerie-inspired pieces before on the red carpet, from the likes of Louis Vuitton, Jean Paul Gaultier and even Elie Saab sent nightie-like dresses down the runway a few seasons ago, but they were designer, Rosie is oozing old-school glamour wearing an £89 silk slip and making it look effortless and chic, and I don’t think anyone would have thought that this was a nightgown at the party.

I love that she kept the vintage feel going with her statement necklace and delicate silver strappy heels. I simply can’t fault this look, as always she looks beautiful from head-to-toe and I adore her new lob haircut, super cute.

Now I’m not suggesting that it is OK to wear your silky nightie or pyjamas out, well that is unless you are a supermodel, but this style also comes in a shorter camisole version that you could wear underneath a shirt or dress so the négligée can peek through, or go bold and wear with jeans and a blazer for a chic, contemporary look. You might have to wait for it to get a little warmer though!!!

Are you tempted to wear your nightie out to a party? Or does it totally make you think of that episode from Friends when Rachel has to wear her lingerie out to dinner with her boyfriend’s parents?

Shopping: My Sale Picks For A Great Winter Coat

my-style-next-coat

I’m a coat hoarder, I love wrapping up warm and as a result my wardrobe has become packed filled with coats of all varieties – from my new fav, the Next pink check beauty **which FYI is in the sale at £35** that has a Clueless vibe about it, to a Paddington Bear duffle that is the just so cosy teamed with a chunky jumper, and even the most unflattering puffa jacket that once upon a time I thought were cool, which now I realise were never cool and still can’t seem to part with.

Coats are a stable of any wardrobe, especially in Blighty, it has definitely been coat wearing weather for a while now, and I can’t help myself each year on adding more, to be honest each year I find myself fixating on something particular, whether it exists or not.

This year it is a charcoal chunky textured coat that comes to my knees, again, I have to stress I don’t know whether such a coat actually exists, but I have come across some beauties in the sale that I just had to share. I am secretly hoping that one of these will make me forget about the imaginary grey number in my head – I think the pink Asos duster coat, now only £35 from £70 might be a contender!!!

Have you got you mind set on a coat this winter that you just can’t find?

Pinspiration: Dressing Down A Sequin Skirt

Pinterest-sequin-skirt

There is something about wearing sequins that I think just brightens up any day. Sparkles in general I find helps with the darkness of winter, but sequins just add a whole need level of glamour that helps me cope with the cold. I am currently obsessed with dressing down sequins, especially skirts, with chunky jumpers, denim shirts and trainers, I love it when sequins are worn in a nonchalant way, and by pairing a sequins down it really does take the piece away from just partywear and makes it just cool daywear.

I have a whole Pinterest board dedicated to sequin skirts, I love the idea of pairing a silver sequinned beauty with Benton strips, or a dark beauty with a denim shirt, and I am totally in love with brightly coloured trainers with a classic black sequin pencil skirt.

My formula to keeping it casual is to basically add one casual element, whether that’s a graphic print tee or sweatshirt, a chunky knit, or a cool pair of trainers, and then keep the rest of my look glam – it is as easy as that to have a cool daywear look without looking like you are trying to hard.

Fancy giving it a go? Well I have tracked down a host of sequin beauties on sale that are just perfect, I am lusting over the black sequin and feather pencil from Topshop, was £95 now only £30, and the vibrant figure-hugging sequinned skirt from French Connection with a swishy fishtail hem, was £120 now £48. I can imagine wearing both with a chunky grey marl jumper.

Just hover over each one for the brand and price, and then click through to snap up a bargain. I basically want them all.

How would you style a sequin skirt for a daytime look?

My Style: Finding The Perfect Leather Dress

My-Style-Outnet-8

I have a list of wardrobe essentials that I am constantly trying to perfect, whether it is finding that white shirt that fits perfectly, or the softest cashmere jumper, or even that hero pair of skinny jeans that never loses its shape. One thing on that list that I haven’t got close to finding, well until I spotted this Iris & Ink beauty on The Outnet, had to be a leather dress.

I am pretty fussy, it had to be nearer to knee-length than mini-skirt, it had to be roomy enough that I could wear all day and still eat, it had to be quality, and most importantly it had to be more tailored than rock-chick and I definitely feel that the Aria Iris & Ink belted suede and leather dress ticks all those boxes.

I love that the combination of leather and suede really does make this a more contemporary take on the leather dress, it makes it a lot more comfortable to wear and I adore that you can nip in the waist with the belt, which I switched up for a skinny leather number as the dress was a little big the suede belt it came with wasn’t working for me.

The Iris & Ink collection at The Outnet has long been a favourite of mine, it is basically filled with timeless, quality wardrobe essentials and I love that I was able to style up this beauty for my blog. One of the areas that has been expanding for the label has to be the accessories, first it was oversized pouches to style up as a cool clutch and this season they have added some gorgeous leather pieces, my favourite being the ‘Camden’ Iris & Ink leather backpack, which you can wear as a backpack or as a bucket handbag, dependant on how you feel and what you are wearing.

There is a lot of love at the moment for bucket bags, they are everywhere, and what I love about this one is its versatility and how it works two trends – backpack and bucket bag, plus it is made from the dreamiest of leathers. It is also super roomy, I do love a bag that can carry all my stuff plus my big SLR. After test driving this beauty I don’t think any other bucket bag will quite cut it, I love that when it is super heavy that you can just change it up and wear it as a backpack. I think this beauty is a fashion week must.

Are you on the hunt for something off your wardrobe essentials list?

Shopping: Ted Baker Royal Mint Pop-Up

Ted-Baker-Royal-Mint-FB

Can you believe that everywhere is already starting to look a lot more Christmassy? I am a festive season junkie normally but this year my Christmas cheer has been put on hold a little due to a little thing called my wedding!!! However, I couldn’t but feel a little in the party mood when checking out Ted Baker’s amazing Royal Mint pop-up in Selfridges this week.

The enchanted space, complete with two gold horse guards, is open until January and it features everything that is sparkly, shiny, and bejewelled from gorgeous clutches to sleek shoppers and shimmering crystal jewellery. There were more than a few pieces that I fell deeply in love with including the exclusive gold shopper bag that comes with a matching pouch, the cute bow clutch bag, especially in dusky pink, and the chic faux fur accessories from gloves to gorgeous collars.

But the one piece that made my heart flutter the most had to be ‘Lela’ the crosshatch trapeze shopper, this beauty can basically carry everything, and I definitely think my gorgeous black one will be my go-to bag this winter.

The regal accessories pop-up is on the ground floor in Selfridges near the Duke Street entrance and as well as just going to spy what you want to add to your wardrobe there are also loads of goodies that you can pick up for your fashionable friends and family this Christmas.

Have you drop by the Ted Baker Royal Mint pop-up yet?

Hitting Stores Soon: Eddy Anemian For H&M

HM-eddy-anemain-1

H&M have a long list of designer collaborations, next month will be a certain Alexander Wang, which you will see everywhere, but for me all attention should be on the incredible Design Award winner Eddy Anemian who has created a gorgeous, elegant 10-piece capsule collection.

Inspired by Tilda Swinton’s character in ‘I Am Love’ and the work of French painter Ingres, the gorgeous line features a craftsmanship that you just don’t expect from someone who is still a fashion student at the visual art school La Cambre in Brussels and a high street name, the meticulous construction and texture of the pieces is going to surprise a lot of people, especially when the prices range from £19.99 to £215.

The pics don’t do the collection’s technique and textures justice, but the structures and abstract patterns have been intricately created by using cut floral upholstery fabric into strips to create the skirts, jackets, trousers and tops.

I am totally in love with the long yellow floral skirt constructed from vertical strips, as well as the blue floral jacket and matching trousers, and the gorgeous white skirt made from horizontal raw-edged ruffles to give the impression of the patterns found in marble. Simply divine and this is coming from a fashion student – imagine the greatness after a few collections under his belt.

If the bold pieces weren’t enough to get you excited, the collection also features a white jumpsuit with floral sleeves, a black heavy twill top, and a pair of white high-waisted trousers to provide contrast and the tailoring looks exquisite.

The collection launches in select H&M stores, as well as online, from October 23 and I can tell you now that I will be trying on that incredible maxi skirt.

Are you excited to see new talent like this getting exposure on the high street?
