Obsessions: My Need For Designer Stationery

designer-stationery-1I’ve spoken about my addiction to stationery before, I have a love for buying notepads, pens, pencils, cute erasers, and even colourful paper-clips, most of which I find too cute to even use, but lately I think I have been hitting new heights with my latest purchases that I just had to have, designer pieces of stationery.

First up, Kate Spade New York, literally the mecca for the cutest pieces that you didn’t even know you wanted, from bow-shaped push pins to micro-skinny pencils, and even a rotating phrase stamp to graffiti every piece of paper in sight, all of which are currently on my very long wish list. I added to my collection in New York these cool pens with phrases like ‘What’s the Word’ and ‘From the Desk of’, as well as these bookend notepads. The reason why, because they were so adorable I couldn’t possible leave them behind!!!

Another favourite has to be the Christian Lacroix Papier, which I can’t help myself when I pass by Liberty’s or browsing on Amara. I love the fashion illustration collections the best and I now have a number of his notebooks as well as a cute note card set that I said was to write to friends but I haven’t quite brought myself to use them, I was thinking instead that they would make great additions to my fashion illustration wall.

For posh notepads with a touch of personality there is only one place to go Aspinal of London, I love their refillable journals with the dreamiest of leather covers, and don’t forget to get it personalised – trust me it is worth it. I have a number of them with my initials on and I love them.

After something fun then you have to check out the Archie Grand range with their witty statements on the front, like ‘Designers I Met And Liked’ and ‘Accessories I Had And Liked’. I find these make the perfect gifts as well as day-to-day pads.

A new favourite has to be Rob Ryan’s collection of notepads, I love his intricate and whimsical artwork and it really does lend itself perfectly for gorgeous stationery that will brighten up any desk. My favourite has to be the bright pink ‘I am the notepad of’ featuring inspirational quotes on the front cover.

Other brands I’ve added to my stationery collection recently and I think you should too, yep that’s right I am enabling so I’m not the only stationery addict are: Sloane Stationery, they kind of mix the best of Aspinal of London with Archie Grand, Cath Kidston, always good for a fun notepad or pen, and Nuuna who do a great selection of handbag sized notepads, I am currently scribbling in their ‘I’d Rather be at the Beach’ notebook, well one can dream while jotting their to-do list.

Do you buy stationery just to look at or is that just me?

Shopping: Ted Baker Royal Mint Pop-Up

Ted-Baker-Royal-Mint-FB

Can you believe that everywhere is already starting to look a lot more Christmassy? I am a festive season junkie normally but this year my Christmas cheer has been put on hold a little due to a little thing called my wedding!!! However, I couldn’t but feel a little in the party mood when checking out Ted Baker’s amazing Royal Mint pop-up in Selfridges this week.

The enchanted space, complete with two gold horse guards, is open until January and it features everything that is sparkly, shiny, and bejewelled from gorgeous clutches to sleek shoppers and shimmering crystal jewellery. There were more than a few pieces that I fell deeply in love with including the exclusive gold shopper bag that comes with a matching pouch, the cute bow clutch bag, especially in dusky pink, and the chic faux fur accessories from gloves to gorgeous collars.

But the one piece that made my heart flutter the most had to be ‘Lela’ the crosshatch trapeze shopper, this beauty can basically carry everything, and I definitely think my gorgeous black one will be my go-to bag this winter.

The regal accessories pop-up is on the ground floor in Selfridges near the Duke Street entrance and as well as just going to spy what you want to add to your wardrobe there are also loads of goodies that you can pick up for your fashionable friends and family this Christmas.

Have you drop by the Ted Baker Royal Mint pop-up yet?

Doll Loving: Barbie x Sadie Williams For LFW

Barbie-sadie-williams-1

I always get a little giddy around this time of year, not because Valentine’s Day is coming up, but because London Fashion Week is only days away and I know that Barbie always teams up with an amazing fashion designer. Previously, my favourite doll has been dressed by Sibling, Nasir Mazhar, Fred Butler, Louise Gray, Roksanda Ilincic and she even got a Christmas makeover from Stephen Jones – well coming Friday this gang of tomboy princesses designed by Sadie Williams will go on sale at Selfridges.

It is hard to top Sibling and Fred Butler, I loved them so much I rushed out and snapped up two, but I love how Central Saint Martins’ graduate Sadie Williams has really brought her own vision to Barbie’s expanding wardrobe. The intricate detail mash-up of hand-collaged prints, which reference vintage sports clothing, graphic Amish quilts, and abstract shapes seen in the work of Frank Stella, really does make the perfect Barbie party look.

I have to be honest I didn’t know much about Sadie Williams before, but after seeing her pintsize gowns I am super impressed, and I can’t wait to see more from this young designer. I am suppose to be on a Barbie ban at the moment, I have a wedding to pay for, but I think I love these tomboy Barbie’s too much to let me go – these two beauties below have to be my favourites.

If you love them as much as me, head on down to Selfridge’s Barbie boutique on Friday, the opening day of LFW, and pick up your favourite one-off doll for £120 each.

Christmas Windows: Selfridges’ Oversized Winter Wonderland

13-Selfridges-Christmas-27

I am a bit of a Christmas nut, I love putting the Michael Buble album on repeat, eating copious amounts of mince pies, wrapping up warm with a hot chocolate watching festive movies, and each year I love checking out the Christmas decorations and window displays. If you follow me on Instagram you will have already seen a giant snowglobe in the middle of Piccadilly, a huge reindeer in Covent Garden, as well as sparkly displays in Leeds, and a rocking robin on Carnaby Street. Well yesterday, in between meetings and events, I decided to wander past Selfridges on Oxford Street to see their fashionable take on the festive season, which is all a bit like ‘Gulliver’s Travels’ with its oversized gifts and tiny people and animals.

The windows are amazing and probably the department store’s best to-date, I love the oversized concept – from the giant Charlotte Olympia kitty shoe with twitching ears to an larger-than-life YSL clutch, a fantasy sized Play-Doh and the largest pair of Dr Dre Beat headphones you will ever see. Plus there is a special window for my favourite doll, Barbie.

These windows are certainly a sight to see, my pictures don’t really show off the wonder at looking at them in person. What I loved about seeing the windows up close was that I wasn’t alone, yesterday I took in the creative displays with an elderly couple, they were super sweet and they were telling me that each year they take in all the windows as a festive treat – so cute!!!

As well as loving all the oversized gifts, what captured my attention the most were all the little details, and when I say little I mean the little Santa’s dancing, playing instruments and directing airplanes, the penguins playing, the skaters on the Grey Goose drink, and the elves dancing – seriously adorable. Oh and who couldn’t love the snowy landscapes.

Have you been to check out Selfridges’ Christmas windows yet and visiting the emporium on the fourth floor?

Doll Loving: Barbie Gets A Christmas Makeover

Barbie-stephen-jones-Group_

You know by now how I love Barbie‘s fashion makeovers, I was so giddy about her transformation by London Fashion Week designers that I bought two, I couldn’t order the Coach Barbie quick enough, and it took me a year but I finally got all three Christian Louboutin beauties for my collection. Well now I am lusting over these five one-off Barbie dolls who have undergone a Christmas makeover by London milliner Stephen Jones.

The hat maker has not only created fabulous headwear for Barbie, but full on Christmas-inspired couture looks from the velvet ‘Santa Baby’ mini dress to a red carpet worthy sparkly gown for ‘Snow Globe’ Barbie, as well as a fishtail frock adorned with holly for ‘Happy Holly’ Barbie, a ‘Christmas Tree’ look, and ‘Toffee Ice’ Barbie – a sexy Rudolph on ice!!!

“Barbie is the most fabulous private client. She came into the salon for her Christmas morning hat and left with five glamorous outfits! Barbie and I have the same design vision; we love tradition, but have an eye for the future, ” Stephen Jones

I am kind obsessed by them all – I actually can’t decide on my favourite. ‘Toffee Ice’ looks adorable and sexy in her antlers, red nose and faux fur outfit, while ‘Snow Globe’ Barbie is red carpet ready in her gown with the quirky addition of the snow globe headgear.

If I had to get just one though I think it would have to be between ‘Christmas Tree’ Barbie who actually lights up and ‘Happy Holly’, which is also Stephen Jones’ favourite, as it is just so exquisite constructed.

Happy Holly Barbie – “This is my personal favourite, using the contrast of soft velvet and spiky holly leaves. Barbie also has her very own pet Robin to give her a Christmas peck,” Stephen Jones.

The exclusive Barbies by Stephen Jones are available at Selfridges from November 15, priced at £250 each.

Catwalk Copy: My Barbie Wearing Sister By Sibling AW13

Barbie-sibling-13

It isn’t everyday you get to buy a Barbie dressed in a catwalk copy, so when I saw Sister by Sibling had made doll-sized replicates of five key pieces from its autumn/winter 2013 collection to dress my favourite doll I had to buy one.

It was hard to choose, I am seriously in love with this fun British knitwear brand, but this black knitted mini complete with pom-pom beret, chunky scarf and chic arm muffs – just called out to me. I just loved how wrapped up she looked and her pretty face nailed it for me – she is just so beautiful.

For me this Sister by Sibling doll is all about the detailing, the tiny hat that is worn to the side, the incredible knitted dress with floral pom poms attached, her purple streaked hair, the gorgeous loose plait down her back, and her eye make-up with cat-flick and purple eye-shadow just finishes her off perfectly.

The Fred Butler Barbie might win out on statement, with her rainbow train, but Winter Barbie is a classic beauty and I have to be honest I am more than a little jealous of her dress!!!

What do you think of Winter Barbie by Sister by Sibling?
