Red Carpet: SAG Awards 2015 – Best Dressed

So this award season hasn’t really blown me away, the Golden Globes and the Critics’ Choice Awards were OK, there were a few standout looks but nothing to be honest that you would remember for years to come, and it seems the SAG Awards held the same fate, the red carpet was filled with “nice” gowns. But for me nice doesn’t really have a place on the red carpet, I want to see drama, high fashion risks and creative designs. The only thing I can hope for is that all the major fashion houses are holding back on their gorgeous gowns for the Oscars next month, otherwise this could be one of the most disappointing award seasons on record.

OK, so I am being a little over dramatic, I just love the award season red carpet so much, it rivals Cannes for exquisite gowns and I love it when my favourite actresses really bring it. Normally I am a huge fan of the SAG Awards red carpet, mainly because the big stars seem more relaxed and happy to be there, but I felt last night the award show was missing some big A-list names that always kill it in the fashion stakes such as Diane Kruger, Kate Hudson, Jennifer Lawrence, Emily Blunt and Jennifer Lopez.

Saying all that I did love some looks, namely Emma Stone, Julianne Moore and Reese Witherspoon, who actually made the Golden Globes red carpet as well, there were also some great choices by Downton Abbey girls Joanne Froggatt and Laura Carmichael, as well as some stunning Donna Karen Atelier gowns worn by Camila Alves and Sofia Vergara, plus some improved outings from Kaley Cuoco, Keira Knightley and Felicity Jones, all of which grace my red carpet Pinterest board, but I have to confess I was still a little underwhelmed by Jennifer Aniston’s vintage Galliano gown, which no doubt everyone else is raving about, for me is was a little too much boob, but I do think her body is looking better than ever.

So here you have it my five best dressed ladies from the 2015 SAG Awards:

Emma Stone in Christian Dior Couture

I am really enjoying seeing Emma Stone have a lot of fun on the red carpet and I love how she really brings a menswear-inspired edge to proceedings. I loved her Golden Globes Lanvin look but this Dior Couture tuxedo-style dress with a sheer skirt and sweeping train really makes that outfit look boring. I love that she went for drama, sex appeal and fun in her look and as always she is the coolest girl in town. I really think that her partnership with stylist Petra Flannery is on fire and I have high expectations for the Oscars.

Julianne Moore in Givenchy Couture

I am loving Julianne Moore’s love affair with Givenchy, they really do seem like a team made for one another, and this is another gorgeous gown. OK, so this isn’t the most original look, a redhead wearing green, or Julianne wearing sequins or a column gown, but saying all that I still love its drama and the fact it made a statement on last night’s SAG Awards red carpet when most did not.

I know some people on Twitter were saying that they wish she had done something more with her hair but I love that she has this minimalistic vibe when it comes to her hair and make-up, plus I adore those purple stone earrings she is wearing.

Reese Witherspoon in custom Giorgio Armani

There is something about Reese Witherspoon on the red carpet, she doesn’t always go for the edgiest of designs or even the raciest, but she always looks incredible, and I love this white custom Giorgio Armani gown. White for me on the red carpet can sometimes seem too bridal or not very flattering but there is something so elegant about this one-shoulder design with its matte sequin detailing along the neckline and shoulder that makes it beautiful.

Add to that her flawless body, stunning hair and make-up, I am a huge fan of a ponytail done right on the red carpet, and all those sparkling Harry Winston jewels and it really does make for a gorgeous look and did you see the back – that scoop is pure perfection.

Camila Alves in Donna Karen Atelier

Donna Karen really had a great SAG Awards with Emilia Clarke, Sofia Vergara and Camila Alves all looking absolutely stunning, and I am sure for most Sofia will get the best dressed nod because she wasn’t wearing a stiff-looking mermaid-style gown, but for me Camila Alves looked a knockout in this strapless aubergine gown that was tailored to perfection to show off her incredible body.

If this gown had been in black, like a lot of looks were last night, I would have been bored – it is the colour of this dress, as well as her beauty that really makes this a standout look of the night for me.

Laura Carmichael in Vionnett

For my fifth and final best dressed star it was a hard choice between Downton Abbey stars Laura Carmichael and Joanne Froggatt, who did look radiant in Honor, but I think Laura’s subtle sexy and daring choice in Vionnett with its sheer and patterned skirt deserved the space that little bit more.

What I love about this look is how different and modern this look is, she took a risk and it paid off, and I am so pleased that she resisted the temptation to over style it as the dress really does speak for itself. I am sure this look will split opinions but I love it.

SAG Awards: Trend – Various Shades Of Blue

463563745

There is always something special about the Screen Actors Guild Awards, maybe it is the fact that they are all judging one another, or that the red carpet has a relaxed nature while still being uber glamorous, or that it comes so soon after the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards that I am so giddy about the award season. Whatever it is, it never seems to disappoint.

Last year it was all about Nina Dobrev’s gorgeous Elie Saab and Jennifer Garner sparkling in Oscar de la Renta, and this year it seems that all my best dressed wore hues of blue. From the gorgeous Amy Adams in Antonio Berardi to Jennifer Lawrence’s shimmering Dior Couture gown.

I was just going to do my best three looks but I have to be honest I couldn’t decide who to cut – so it is now my top 4 beauties from the SAG Awards red carpet!!!

In at number one has to be American Hustle’s Amy Adams in this Antonio Berardi gown, not only is this shade of blue divine, but the architectural neckline and shoulder cut-out detail really marries sexy and elegance all at the same time, and the fit is impeccable on her. Amy really is having a great award season.

My second best is newcomer Lupita Nyong’o, this girl continues to impress me every time she steps out onto the red carpet and this custom Gucci gown is beautiful. It isn’t often that you see turquoise on the red carpet, but this hue really shined on her, and it was made even better with those gorgeous floral embroidered straps. Another breathtaking look – I think Lupita is easily my favourite red carpet star of the moment.

Third place was a tough decision between the two Jennifer’s – from the statuesque Jennifer Garner in a custom Max Mara gown and Jennifer Lawrence in a shimmering Dior Couture number. Both are beautiful, both so different. I think the constellation of multicoloured sequins on J-Law’s gown just pips Garner as it really did shimmer on TV, but I do love the simplicity of Garner’s – that is a great silhouette on her.

SAG Awards: Nina Dobrev In Elie Saab

Where: At the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards at The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California

Wearing: A sleek Barbie pink Elie Saab gown featuring subtle sheer-lace cut-outs from the ready-to-wear spring/summer 2013 collection, teamed with a thin belt, Neil Lane jewels, a bejewelled Judith Lieber box clutch, and Jimmy Choo heels

Verdict: I love it when young actresses shine on the red carpet, I love it even more when they wear bright colours, and I am super pleased when it is Elie Saab!!! Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev was my best dressed last night at the SAG Awards as she looked absolutely incredible in this simple-yet-chic Elie Saab gown.

I was trying to pin down why I loved it so much, of course the Barbie pink shade was always going to get my vote, but even though I love a Princess dress I really love that this has a sporty vibe with the t-shirt sleeves, and I just couldn’t shake how much it kind of reminded me of the simple Calvin Klein dress that Jennifer Lawrence wore to the Oscars in 2011.

But what this look has is the touch of sexy glamour with the sheer lace cut-outs and the sparkly box clutch and those gorgeous Neil Lane drop earrings. This minimalistic gown teamed with sparkling accessories was the perfect combination to add to Nina’s natural beauty and incredible body – this look is when the dress + styling + star work perfectly together and I love it.

Do you love this look as much as I do?

Wearing: A strapless silver-embroidered lace column Marchesa gown, teamed with Fabergé jewels, and a silver box clutch

Verdict: Best Old Hollywood glamour award most certainly goes to Naomi Watts she looks lovely in this Marchesa gown.

The intricate detailing in this gown is incredible and it really shimmered beautifully on camera and it works perfectly with her sideswept wavy locks.

This is just one beautiful look.
