Women In Film: Rose Byrne & Kiernan Shipka In Max Mara

MaxMara-Byrne-Rose

Who: Actress Rose Byrne

Where: At the 2014 Women in Film cocktail party hosted by Max Mara honouring Rose Byrne with the ‘Max Mara Face of the Future’ award held at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, California

Wearing: A midnight blue sequinned V-neck Max Mara cocktail dress, teamed with dual-tone black and silver, toe-cap heels. matching navy blue nails and a messy waves in her hair

Verdict: As the focus of the party, Rose really did shimmer in this eye-catching sequinned dress. It is very her, signature Max Mara, and perfect for a cocktail party, but I have to be honest I kind of wish she had worn different heels, maybe something strappy, and worn a statement piece of bling like a diamond-encrusted bracelet. I adore the dress I just wish the styling had been a little different.

The party also attracted some of Hollywood’s hottest stars including Christina Hendricks, Erin Wasson, Amanda Stenberg, Darby Stanchfield, Sophia Bush, Bella Heathcote and Ahna O’Reilly, who of course all looked incredible wearing either Max Mara or Sportmax looks – but the young actress that really shined for me had to be Kiernan Shipka.

Kiernan has really been impressing of late, she really does love fashion and takes risks that really pay off, and I loved her edgy-yet-feminine look at the cocktail party. Pairing a perfectly tailored white silk Max Mara top with a beaded neckline with a fun and edgy Max Mara pleated leather skirt – should a great monochrome look made exquisite with the pop of yellow from her Christian Louboutin studded bag.

Are you as impressed with Kiernan Shipka as I am? Do you like Rose Byrne’s look?

Primetime Emmys 2013: My Best Dressed List

Primetime-emmys-best-dressed

It has been a while since I’ve enjoyed an awards red carpet, but on Sunday night the very best in TV donned some gorgeous gowns for the Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles. Normally the TV Emmys are a little hit and miss, but this year it seems everyone really upped their game and I fell in love with a lot of looks – from the sophisticated ice-blue J.Mendel that Zooey Deschanel wore to the romantic Marchesa gown that Kerry Washington stunned in.

Trying to decide on my favourite look was hard, these seven looks were easily my favourites, but for me the two minimal-yet-exquisite looks – the sleek and glamorous Calvin Klein dress that Rose Byrne went for and the vibrant statement Ralph Lauren gown worn by Allison Williams were miles ahead of the rest. Normally I would got for dramatic, verging on the side of OTT and usually of the princess variety, but I was blown away by how perfect these two looks were.

If I had to choose between the two, and it is hard, I think I would go with Allison Williams, her strapless corset Ralph Lauren just looked incredible on TV – the bold colour teamed with the minimal structure to the shape of the gown worked perfectly. But it was her gorgeous tousled, wavy hair and flawless face, and those Fred Leighton gold bracelets that narrowly put her head of Rose.

Rose was a very close second though in this custom petal silk crepe Calvin Klein Collection top and skirt – she looks smoulderingly hot in this sexy two-piece. I love how simple and streamlined this look is while being so on trend with the crop top. My favourite bit of this look is the criss-cross detailing as well as the colour it is divine.

Like with Allison, Rose also finishes her look with gorgeous hair and make-up as well as great accessories, I love her silver Jimmy Choo ‘tube’ clutch and her Tiffany & Co earrings.

From minimal chic to two very different white looks, both gorgeous and both looked spectacular on the red carpet. First up we have Scandal actress Kerry Washington wearing a romantic Marchesa gown from the labels spring/summer 2014 collection.

Kerry’s was the closest to a princess dress and I adore the floral appliqués, the ribbon bodice and the tulle train – she looked incredible and it worked with her same colour Edie Larker clutch and delicate jewels by Fred Leighton.

At the other end of the all-white scale we have Kate Mara in a graphic lace embroidered J.Mendel gown featuring a silk crepe asymmetrical wrap skirt. I love the sex appeal of this dress with the peek-a-boo mesh-like lace and the super high thigh-high split. I also have to give her credit for the over-styling that totally paid off with the white-edged clear platform heels and white manicure – simply gorgeous.

Next up we have January Jones, who gave me the biggest surprise, no sexy split, no edgy look, just a gorgeous romantic dress. Custom-made for her by Givenchy, this dusky pink strapless dress really stood out on the red carpet because of the intricate detailing of the floral lace skirt and her flawless make-up.

Another elegant look came from New Girl star Zooey Deschanel wearing an ice-blue J. Mendel column gown from the Resort 2014 collection featuring asymmetrical folded detail at the waist and thigh-high side slit. This is a sophisticated look that looked stunning on her and was perfectly styled with silver accessories – I really love her sequinned Edie Parker clutch.

My final spot in my seven best dressed is for Downton Abbey actress Michelle Dockery who was dressed for grabbing the headlines in this striking two-tone red Prada halter-style gown with its high-low hem at the front and cute bow detailing at the bow.

With a raised hemline at the front the heels are very important and these double-strap beauties also by Prada are perfect – delicate and glamorous. I also love her red jewelled clutch.

I think out of the seven looks this might be the one that splits opinion.

I know I said my seven best dressed, but there was something about Claire Danes ethereal Giorgio Armani Privè gown that I just couldn’t leave out. The nude flare gown looked gorgeous on TV, the tulle bodice embroidered with sequins and the lace skirt really shined, however all the pictures don’t do it justice. But one thing I can’t love is her faux-bob and vibrant lippy – that comes across whatever the medium!!!

So who gets your best dressed from this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards?

I Give It A Year: Rose Byrne In Erdem

rose-byrne-erdemWho: Actress Rose Byrne

Where: At the New York premiere of her new flick ‘I Give It A Year’

Wearing: A long-sleeve floral embroidered Erdem dress featuring sheer panels from the autumn/winter 2013 collection, teamed with metallic Jimmy Choo heels

Verdict: There is something about Rose Byrne, she kind of has the Diane Kruger feel for me, she always looks stylish and takes fashion risks. This is a gorgeous dress, sporting a floral design that Erdem is known for, but with a moody edge of the blue, yellow, purple and dark red flowers.

I love how Erdem has made this floral print look modern and sexy with the black sheer panels to the waist, arms, shoulders and hemline – it really adds a different element to the dress, which could have been a little plain without.

Finishing off her ladylike look, the Aussie actress styled her hair with messy loose waves, stunning smoky eyes and great heels – those metallic silver Jimmy Choos are perfection.

I really can’t stress how much I love this look – great job Rose – I can’t wait to see what other looks she brings out for this tour.

Cover Loving: Rose Byrne Looks Gorgeous For Flare

I have said it several times before but Flare is a fab magazine and they really do produce gorgeous covers, and the August issue with the stunning Rose Byrne is another example of a great high-fashion cover.

Shot by Max Abadian, Rose is a picture of elegance wearing a stunning red lace Marchesa dress from the autumn/winter 2012, which if you are thinking it looks familiar it is probably because it is the same one that Jennifer Lawrence wore on her Hunger Games promo tour, and it is quite similar to the one that Blake Lively wore last year at CinemaCon.

The accompanying editorial spread is just as stunning, Rose looks incredible in a variety of autumn looks from labels such as Christopher Kane, Marc Jacobs, and Balenciaga, styled by Elizabeth Cabral. I am also loving her make-up, her Rimmel Kate Moss Lipstick in shade 01 on the cover is perfection.

In the interview, Rose discusses her off-duty style, red carpet preparation, as well as talking about that gorgeous Elie Saab jumpsuit that she wore to the 2012 SAG Awards, which I think kind of started a red carpet trend on Elie Saab jumpsuits, and her sparkly Vivienne Westwood Oscar dress.

On her Elie Saab jumpsuit at the 2012 SAG Awards: “When I wore that jumpsuit, Penny [her stylist] and I fully discussed that you can’t please everybody, that it will probably be loved by Vogue and hated by People. It’s just clothes, it should be fun. It’s been good, to take risks knowing that’s the reality of it.”

On her Vivienne Westwood dress at the 2012 Academy Awards:
“[Vivienne Westwood] worked so well with us altering it, it ended up totally different from the original dress.”

On preparing for red carpet: “You’ve got to get your stamina ready. Particularly for an awards ceremony, that’s a different league. But I have my group around me, and it’s fun. I think for the red carpet in general it’s important to keep it youthful. A lot of people can look very dressed up and old and severe. That’s sort of my worst fear, is erring on that side.”

On her pre-red carpet ritual: “Try to get a good night’s sleep, don’t go out at all the night before. In the morning, get some exercise, for mental health. Then it’s just fun.”

On her off-duty style: “I go through phases. But I mostly dress in high street clothing, like Urban Outfitters. Every day, really.”
