Disney Love: Minnie Mouse Is Coming To LFW

Last season Barbie came to London Fashion Week thanks to her collaboration with Sister by Sibling well it seems for spring/summer 2013 the hot trend is sure to be Minnie Mouse ears and polka dots as some of the hottest designers around have teamed up with the Disney’s most famous style icon, Minnie Mouse.

Minnie is one lucky cartoon character, she has a range of nail varnishes with OPI and Mawi created a range of jewellery inspired by her iconic silhouette, and come September she is set to get her own fashion collection designed by the likes of Giles Deacon (above), Richard Nicoll and Michael Van Der Ham, which Disney is calling ‘Minnie Mouse Must Haves’, one-off garments and accessories that will be presented during London Fashion Week.

Each designer has taken Minnie Mouse as their inspiration, so think lots of signature bows, her trademark polka dots, pops of red, as well as her iconic ears. Other designers taking part include Piers Atkinson, Bunney, Husam el Odeh in collaboration with Luke Hersheson, Katie Hillier, Lulu Guinness, Tatty Devine and Terry de Havilland. Plus there will be an “extraordinary collaboration” with Meadham Kirchhoff, the design duo known for their quirky catwalk shows – oh my I simply can not wait!!!!

All the sketches are gorgeous and have made me excited to see them in person, but I think I have to give it to Richard Nicoll and Michael Van Der Ham, their designs are whimsical and gorgeous. I am loving Nicoll’s statement ‘Minnie’ ear shoulders and the comic-book strip design, but I am a sucker for a sequinned Minnie silhouette and this one from Van Der Ham looks divine and I love that he went for black and gold rather than the traditional red. I am also glad to see Lulu Guinness designing a one-off bag and I can’t wait to see Terry de Havilland’s Minnie shoes.

Following the ‘Inspired by Minnie Mouse’ showcase, each of the ‘Minnie Mouse Must Haves’ will be available at an exclusive eBay auction, so if your bid is the highest you could come away with a fab one-off Minnie Mouse-inspired creation. Proceeds from the auction will be donated by Disney to support the BFC/Bazaar Fashion Arts Foundation, a British Fashion Council initiative.

Roll on London Fashion Week…not long to go now!!!

Vertu Launch: Rosie Huntington Whiteley In Richard Nicoll

Who: Model-turned-actress Rosie Huntington Whiteley

Where: At the Vertu Global Launch Of The ‘Constellation’ at Palazzo Serbelloni in Milan, Italy

Wearing:  A corset bodice top teamed with a metallic two-tone skirt, both from Richard Nicoll’s Resort 2012 collection, paired with navy Salvatore Ferragamo heels

Verdict: I do love it when British designers other than the big names make an entrance on the red carpet and I love this quirky Richard Nicoll look on Rosie. On first look at this outfit it kind of has a Dolce & Gabbana look about it with the corset bodice top and the mixed fabrics, but it looks simply divine on Rosie’s model figure. What I absolutely love about this look is the simple jewellery, the highlight being a delicate pendant necklace.

Designer Copy: Richard Nicoll vs AX Paris

I haven’t done a designer copy in a while, but as soon as I saw these Pleated Chiffon Trousers at AX Paris they instantly reminded me of the ones Richard Nicoll sent down the runway for his spring/summer 2011 show.

Other than the shade of coral I think that these are near carbon copy, the major different being on the two floaty trousers is most certainly the cost. I am sure that these Richard Nicoll’s beauties aren’t anywhere close to the AX Paris price of £20 *in the sale*. Such a bargain!!

Not a fan of the coral? Well the AX Paris trousers also come in black for £30.

LFW: Richard Nicoll Partners With Vodafone

Yesterday, on a glorious morning on Soho House’s roof terrace, the polar-opposite to today, the adorable and uber-talented Richard Nicoll announced a two-season partnership with mobile giants Vodafone.

The acclaimed British designer who has previously shown with support from Topshop will work with Vodafone across SS12 and AW12, and will give Vodafone customers access to his show via Vodafone VIP, as well as the chance to meet him backstage at London Fashion Week.

“I feel excited to be a part of the new wave of British designers that are injecting energy into London Fashion Week. I’m thrilled to partner with Vodafone and offer their customers an insight into our world. Fashion has a strong cultural influence in Britain so partnering with a brand as prevalent as Vodafone feels both natural and directional.” Richard Nicoll

The first event in the partnership will be for Vogue’s Fashion’s Night Out kick-off event at Asprey on September 8, and Richard will also host a personal appearance at Vodafone’s flagship store in the West End, where he will be personalising limited edition products.

What I am most interested in though is the announcement that Nicoll’s will be working with the Vodafone innovation team to design an ‘on trend accessory that fuses technology and cutting edge design’, very cryptic!! The surprise accessory will be showcased in Nicoll’s autumn/winter 2012 runway show, so a little time to wait then.

The deal will also see Nicoll’s move away from the Topshop venue and to his own stand-alone location, which is said to be located on The Haymarket, and there is even talk that the show will feature over two floors, that will definitely make it a hot ticket.

Well Orange has its cinema offers, O2 has its priority tickets, but it seems like Vodafone are grabbing the fashion category; they already support London Fashion Week and London Fashion Weekend, they were involved with Jaeger’s LFW show last season, and now they have an acclaimed designer on their books.
