Met Gala 2014: Battle Of The Pink

After the disappointed red carpet at last year’s Punk-themed Met Gala I was thrilled that this year’s event was celebrating Charles James the master courtier that really understood drama, sculpture, class, and what makes a great red carpet dress – generally something huge that makes a statement – so I am pleased that the celebs attendees really honoured his vision.

One of my favourite looks had to be Reese Witherspoon in this strapless Barbie-pink Stella McCartney gown. Everything from the colour to the sculptured take on the sweetheart neckline to the way it contoured her body and the slight train, everything about this look is perfection.

If the dress wasn’t enough to make me squeal with excited her Hollywood glamour hair and make-up sure would, the Oscar-winning star was simple flawless, I just loved the matching hot pink lips. I can’t believe that this is Reese’s first time at the Met Gala – this is a great debut look.

There were many hues of pink on the night and two came from Stella McCartney, to complement Reese’s hot pink gown, the gorgeous Kate Bosworth looked divine in this dusky pink slinky spaghetti strap dress. Her statuesque model figure really pulls off this great dress, which has sexy little cut-outs under the bust. But as much as I love the dress it is the styling of the accessories and hair-do that I adore the most – I love that she wasn’t afraid to add sparkle!!!

Combining an element of both Reese’s and Kate’s looks was Emma Stone who look modern, young and fabulous in this striking-yet-simple custom two-piece pink and magenta, colour-block Thakoon ensemble. What I love is that it isn’t a ballgown, I know that was kind of the theme of the night and this look might not quite have cut it, but for me Emma showed a contemporary look that still honoured Charles James with the flowing wrap skirt. Plus with hair like that she definitely had to be featured – love, love, love!!!

One last pink look that caught my attention was Taylor Swift who wore a custom blush pink embellished satin Oscar de la Renta gown teamed with Lorraine Schwartz jewellery. While the front of this gown was exquisite, well it was crafted by Oscar de la Renta and embroidered with gold sequins, pearl beads and rose metallic leaves, for me this gown was all about the drama in the back – check out that fabulous bow and train. Stunning in an Old Hollywood glamour kind of way.

It is hard to choose who wins the battle of the pink, but I think Reese in that stunning hot pink number just gets it. Who was your favourite girl in pink?

Cover Loving: ELLE US Hollywood Issue – Reese, Penélope, Melissa & Shailene

ELLE US Nov pcruz 2 Cover Loving: ELLE US Hollywood Issue Reese, Penélope, Melissa & Shailene %tag

American ELLE’s Hollywood issue is one of my favourite magazines to pick up as I love the mix of actresses they go for – and this year is no exception with Reese Witherspoon, Penélope Cruz, Shailene Woodley, and Melissa McCarthy all gracing the cover.

My favourite cover this year is a difficult choice – between Penélope Cruz, who looks stunning wearing a cashmere sweater by The Row and Chopard jewellery – I love how they’ve kept her make-up to a minimal to show off her adorable freckles, and Shailene Woodley, even though this cover looks set for summer rather than autumn wearing Calvin Klein Swimwear there is something different about the pose that makes it stand out.

Reese Witherspoon’s cover is probably the most predictable, but nevertheless she still looks stunning in a sexy Versace number. The cover I think I was most disappointed with was Melissa McCarthy styled in an oversized Marina Rinaldi coat with OTT eighties hair – I can only imagine how much hairspray they used.

Online there also seems to be another two covers featuring Marion Cotillard working the crop top trend in Dior, and British actress Naomie Harris looking absolutely gorgeous in a Calvin Klein Collection wrap halter top and skirt, very similar to the one that Rose Byrne wore to the Primetime Emmys.

Considering this is a November cover there is a lot of skin on show – especially with the main fashion tagline being ‘the perfect coat shape’. It is hard to decide on my favourite but I think it has to be Penélope Cruz as she just looks gorgeous and is really the only one, except for Melissa wearing anything autumn related.

Which cover is your favourite? Also do you think these covers seem more appropriate for spring/summer than November?

Oscars 2013: Reese Witherspoon In Louis Vuitton

Oscars reece witherspoon LV Oscars 2013: Reese Witherspoon In Louis Vuitton %tagWho: Reese Witherspoon

Where: At the 85th Annual Academy awards held in Los Angeles

Wearing: A custom Louis Vuitton Klein blue silk faille strapless corset gown, featuring a contrasting black bow trim to the bustier and a train, teamed with Louis Vuitton fine jewellery and Christian Louboutin heels

Verdict: This was one of my favourite gown’s of the night and it was all because of the bold colour, it stood out against her blonde side-swept wavy locks and with a red carpet filled with nude tones I loved that she went with colour.

I know that I state Old Hollywood glamour maybe too much, but Reese was definitely oozing sophistication and sex appeal in this gorgeous yet simple gown, and I love that she didn’t over-do her make-up and jewellery – minimal and subtle worked perfectly.

Who: Reese Witherspoon

Where: At the premiere of ‘Mud’ at the Cannes Film Festival

Wearing: A custom-made cobalt blue silk chiffon Atelier Versace gown, adorned with Swarovski crystals, featured a empire-waist silhouette, cut-out detailing to the back, double straps, and a central split; teamed with Versace shoes and Chopard jewellery

Verdict: Seriously where have I been, first I didn’t know that Drew Barrymore was getting married, and until seeing this picture I had no clue that Reese Witherspoon was pregnant, I need to read more showbiz blogs!!!

Back to the Reese’s amazing look, this is a very glamorous maternity gown that showcases her baby bump to perfection, the cut of this sparkly Versace gown really is making her glow. I love the colour, the sparkles, the gorgeous updo, and I am loving that she finished off her look with some exquisite Chopard bling!!!

I think this look may be one of my favourites from the Cannes Film Festival this year, mainly because it wasn’t something I was expecting to see Reese wear, I love that Cannes brings out the sparkle in everyone.

Red Carpet: Celebs Work Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2012

LVprefall2012 Red Carpet: Celebs Work Louis Vuitton Pre Fall 2012 %tag

Forget spring/summer 2012, pre-fall 2012 collections are all the rage on the red carpet at the moment, and Louis Vuitton has already had three major Hollywood celebs working the exquisite pieces. The collection is filled with gorgeous 60s silhouettes, sparkly sequins, and extravagant luxurious fabrics – it really does have a charm about it.

I think my favourite look so far has to be Rooney Mara’s emerald-green sleeveless pocketed dress at the 27th annual Santa Barbara Film Festival Awards – I love the kick of the skirt around the hips and it is good to see Rooney wearing a splash of colour – even if it is dark green. But I do adore the embellished beauties that Reese Witherspoon and Cate Blanchett – I think that Reese’s emerald-green and black version just pips Cate’s ivory and gold combination.

With no full length gowns I am not expecting many more red carpet appearances, but there are some gorgeous separates, cute princess coats, and beautiful mini-dresses that I am hoping some of my favourite celebrities will wear on their various promotional tours.

These are my three favourite looks – a yellow version of the one that Rooney wore, an exquisite military-detailed black dress, and the forties-inspired dreamy peach day dress with a tulip print on it – I really want to see someone like Zooey Deschanel wear this.

Also special mention has to go to this coat – love the shape, love the detailing, I am sure I am not going to love the price – but hey one can dream!!!

Golden Globes: Reese Witherspoon In Zac Posen

reese Golden Globes: Reese Witherspoon In Zac Posen %tag

Who: Reese Witherspoon!

Where: At the 69th Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles

Wearing: A red strapless figure-hugging Zac Posen mermaid gown with sweet-heart neckline detail from the pre-fall 2012 collection, paired with 9ct diamond Fred Leighton earrings and an armful of antique bracelets

Verdict: Wow, this dress shows off some serious curves, and kind of reminds me of a Valentine’s Day Barbie doll. I think this a very sexy gown on her and I love that she paired it with beach hair, the loose waves really gives the look something a little different. The only thing though I kind of get the feeling the dress is a little long for her, or that her heels needed to be higher as the mermaid train just slumps a little on the floor. But overall this is one racy look for Reese.

Who: Newlywed actress Reese Witherspoon

Where: At the 46th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas, Nevada

Wearing: A black lace Marchesa cocktail dress with tulle overlay and embroidered bodice, teamed with Brian Atwood heels

Verdict: I have to admit I do love Reese Witherspoon, and I will be rushing out to buy People magazine and Hello! next week to see her wedding pictures. But until then it is nice to see her looking fabulous in this gorgeous Marchesa cocktail gown. I love the elegance of the sweetheart neckline, as well as the length falling just above the knee, it really is a great dress and she looks stunning in it.

Seeing Reese in this gown has made me quite excited about the other outfits she is going to bring out for her new movie Water for Elephants.
