Oscars 2015: Reese Witherspoon In Tom Ford

Who: Reese Witherspoon

Where: At the 87th Annual Academy Awards held at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, California

Wearing: An ice blue silk georgette Tom Ford gown with black velvet off-the-shoulder detailing, teamed with Tiffany & Co. diamond jewellery

Verdict: I don’t think Reese Witherspoon has put a foot wrong this award season, she really has played the American sweetheart well, I just was hoping for more tonight.

Don’t get me wrong I like this Tom Ford gown, it fits her perfectly, it is a timeless, classic silhouette that always looks good on her, and I even like the colour on her, but it didn’t wow me like I want to be at the Oscars.

What I do love though has to be her hair, how does she get it that shiny, and her make-up, flawless, and I love her jewellery.

BAFTAs 2015: My Five Best Dressed

Each year I have mixed feelings about the BAFTAs red carpet, the awards are our Oscars but they don’t ever feel in the same league, they never really bring all the big stars, the fashion is generally more bad than good or just too safe to care, and I never understand why they don’t make the red carpet more organised, watching it makes me so frustrated there is never a full length shot, there are heads in the way, and it always looks so crowded.

Saying all that I did like a number of the gowns tonight, mainly thanks to Julianne Moore, who all award season has killed it, I loved her shimmery Givenchy beauty at the Golden Globes and her green sequinned Givenchy wonder at the SAG Award, and now this incredibly sexy red Tom Ford gown.

What I love about this gown has to be the two-tone mix of fabrics, with the velvet bodice with plunging neckline, teamed with a silk skirt. I like the contrast of the two fabrics, it makes it modern and fresh and I love it when Julianne does sexy. I think this look will be on a lot of people’s best dressed list. If it isn’t it should be – I love it that much. Without this sexy look this red carpet would have been a little blah for me.

Next up on my Best Dressed list has to be Reese Witherspoon in Stella McCartney, I love this purple hue on her, and this gown is elegant and sexy, which is perfect for her, and shows off her gorgeous figure. I have to be honest though I was a little worried about her girls escaping at the side – or maybe that was secretly hoping! Her hair and make-up was once again stunning – her glam squad are doing her proud this award season.

My third spot has to go to Laura Haddock, star of Da Vinci’s Demons, which I love, who so had a princess moment on the red carpet in her custom long-sleeve tulle gown with a plunging neckline by Ashi Studio, who I am going to have investigate and find out more about as I adore this pretty gown. Some of my Twitter feed were saying that this was a little too much for a non-nominee or presenter, but come on why the hell not, she is beautiful, the gown is divine, and I loved that she stood out.

My last two spots were tough to fill, I actually considered just doing my three best dressed, but then I had a change of heart and thought that these two lovely ladies did deserve to be showcased. So here you go, my fourth best dressed goes to Gugu Mbatha-Raw who looked gorgeous in a lilac Prada gown. What I loved about this frock was the feminine colour and silhouette mixed in with the rock-n-roll black crystal trim, I think that by adding that edgy accent made this a bolder look for me, I also think her accessories round off a great look, I even like the ear cuff, which is actually starting to bore me now, it was edgy when Emma Watson did it. Also this was Gugu’s second Prada look this weekend, is there a contract on the horizon?

Last but not least is Felicity Jones in Christian Dior Couture, her stylist called it a vintage gown, but I don’t think spring/summer 2013 counts as vintage, not even when you say it is ‘modern vintage’. But nevertheless I still like it, for me this is the best she has looked all award season. There is something so classic and pretty about this embroidered pink silk gown that makes it perfect for her and the occasion. The only thing I would have changed is the length, I think it was a little long for her.

I also think a special mention has to go out to Rosamund Pike who looked stunning in a black Roland Mouret, the only reason she didn’t get my fifth spot was purely because the gown actually looked better on TV than it does in photographs, which sometimes happens, but still this was her best look so far this award season. I also though Holliday Grainger looked amazing in an elegant black-and-white Antonio Berardi gown, as did Lea Seydoux in a canary yellow cut-out Prada gown, and Amy Adams was again flawless in a white custom Lanvin.

Cover Loving: Vanity Fair Hollywood Issue 2015

VF-hollywood-issue-cover

I do love the annual Vanity Fair Hollywood issue, it is always the most glamorous cover of the year, excluding the 3-in-a-bed scene from a few years ago, and I do love seeing the biggest names in Hollywood in a shoot together. Once again shot by Annie Leibovitz, did you know she has photographed all but three of the Hollywood issues in its 21 years, and like last year I am a fan of this cover due to its old Hollywood glamour feel, I love seeing the men dressed in white-tie tuxedos and the ladies in shimmery gowns. Granted there isn’t anything new about this cover but I still love it, because this is what I expect and love from the Hollywood issue.

Leading the pack in the special gatefold 2015 cover is Amy Adams in a gorgeous gold Atelier Versace gown, perched on the shoulders of Channing Tatum, next to a beautiful Reese Witherspoon, a little distracting with Amy’s pose and Reese’s cleavage, but I think it works. But it’s the Brits that dominated the rest of the cover and issue, yes we are invading Hollywood, with five out of the 10 stars British. You have a rather disinterested Felicity Jones, perched on the knee of Benedict Cumberbatch, while David Oyelowo drapes his arm over Eddie Redmayne, and Sienna Miller shows off her jumpsuit. Rounding off the cover is Whiplash star Miles Teller and Oscar Isaac from A Most Violent Year.

Overall I like the mix of new and established stars but I was kind of hoping that Chris Pratt and Mark Ruffalo would make an appearance, I am kind of obsessed with them both, maybe Chris is a little too mainstream with his Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic Park resume, and maybe Channing and Sienna took the Foxcatcher spots on the cover leaving no room for Ruffalo. Also talking about Sienna what did they do to her neck in editing?

The magazine has also released some of the snaps from its 2015 Hollywood portfolio, which will span across 30 pages and features 44 British stars including Keira Knightley, Damian Lewis, Ruth Wilson and Dame Judi Dench snapped by Jason Bell. Emily Blunt behind the Hollywood sign looks incredible.

On seeing this year’s cover and seeing it was celebrating 21 years, I kind of feel pretty old as well as the need to remind myself of who starred on the previous covers, so I have created a dedicated Pinterest board to the Hollywood issue. You can see how young Leo DiCaprio looks on the 1996 cover, which also includes the now forgotten Skeet Ulrich who I had a huge crush on, the all-girl cover of 2010 that even made Kristen Stewart looks sweet, and the 1995 cover that thought dressing the biggest Hollywood actresses in their underwear was a good idea, well except Gwyneth Paltrow who got to keep her gown on.

What do you think of this year’s cover? And do you have a favourite from the 21 years?

Red Carpet: SAG Awards 2015 – Best Dressed

So this award season hasn’t really blown me away, the Golden Globes and the Critics’ Choice Awards were OK, there were a few standout looks but nothing to be honest that you would remember for years to come, and it seems the SAG Awards held the same fate, the red carpet was filled with “nice” gowns. But for me nice doesn’t really have a place on the red carpet, I want to see drama, high fashion risks and creative designs. The only thing I can hope for is that all the major fashion houses are holding back on their gorgeous gowns for the Oscars next month, otherwise this could be one of the most disappointing award seasons on record.

OK, so I am being a little over dramatic, I just love the award season red carpet so much, it rivals Cannes for exquisite gowns and I love it when my favourite actresses really bring it. Normally I am a huge fan of the SAG Awards red carpet, mainly because the big stars seem more relaxed and happy to be there, but I felt last night the award show was missing some big A-list names that always kill it in the fashion stakes such as Diane Kruger, Kate Hudson, Jennifer Lawrence, Emily Blunt and Jennifer Lopez.

Saying all that I did love some looks, namely Emma Stone, Julianne Moore and Reese Witherspoon, who actually made the Golden Globes red carpet as well, there were also some great choices by Downton Abbey girls Joanne Froggatt and Laura Carmichael, as well as some stunning Donna Karen Atelier gowns worn by Camila Alves and Sofia Vergara, plus some improved outings from Kaley Cuoco, Keira Knightley and Felicity Jones, all of which grace my red carpet Pinterest board, but I have to confess I was still a little underwhelmed by Jennifer Aniston’s vintage Galliano gown, which no doubt everyone else is raving about, for me is was a little too much boob, but I do think her body is looking better than ever.

So here you have it my five best dressed ladies from the 2015 SAG Awards:

Emma Stone in Christian Dior Couture

I am really enjoying seeing Emma Stone have a lot of fun on the red carpet and I love how she really brings a menswear-inspired edge to proceedings. I loved her Golden Globes Lanvin look but this Dior Couture tuxedo-style dress with a sheer skirt and sweeping train really makes that outfit look boring. I love that she went for drama, sex appeal and fun in her look and as always she is the coolest girl in town. I really think that her partnership with stylist Petra Flannery is on fire and I have high expectations for the Oscars.

Julianne Moore in Givenchy Couture

I am loving Julianne Moore’s love affair with Givenchy, they really do seem like a team made for one another, and this is another gorgeous gown. OK, so this isn’t the most original look, a redhead wearing green, or Julianne wearing sequins or a column gown, but saying all that I still love its drama and the fact it made a statement on last night’s SAG Awards red carpet when most did not.

I know some people on Twitter were saying that they wish she had done something more with her hair but I love that she has this minimalistic vibe when it comes to her hair and make-up, plus I adore those purple stone earrings she is wearing.

Reese Witherspoon in custom Giorgio Armani

There is something about Reese Witherspoon on the red carpet, she doesn’t always go for the edgiest of designs or even the raciest, but she always looks incredible, and I love this white custom Giorgio Armani gown. White for me on the red carpet can sometimes seem too bridal or not very flattering but there is something so elegant about this one-shoulder design with its matte sequin detailing along the neckline and shoulder that makes it beautiful.

Add to that her flawless body, stunning hair and make-up, I am a huge fan of a ponytail done right on the red carpet, and all those sparkling Harry Winston jewels and it really does make for a gorgeous look and did you see the back – that scoop is pure perfection.

Camila Alves in Donna Karen Atelier

Donna Karen really had a great SAG Awards with Emilia Clarke, Sofia Vergara and Camila Alves all looking absolutely stunning, and I am sure for most Sofia will get the best dressed nod because she wasn’t wearing a stiff-looking mermaid-style gown, but for me Camila Alves looked a knockout in this strapless aubergine gown that was tailored to perfection to show off her incredible body.

If this gown had been in black, like a lot of looks were last night, I would have been bored – it is the colour of this dress, as well as her beauty that really makes this a standout look of the night for me.

Laura Carmichael in Vionnett

For my fifth and final best dressed star it was a hard choice between Downton Abbey stars Laura Carmichael and Joanne Froggatt, who did look radiant in Honor, but I think Laura’s subtle sexy and daring choice in Vionnett with its sheer and patterned skirt deserved the space that little bit more.

What I love about this look is how different and modern this look is, she took a risk and it paid off, and I am so pleased that she resisted the temptation to over style it as the dress really does speak for itself. I am sure this look will split opinions but I love it.

Golden Globes 2015: The Best Celebrity Instagram Moments

Of course we all love the official red carpet snaps from award shows, but this year I think all the fun is going to happened on Instagram as this past year actresses and actors really have got on board and embraced the picture sharing site, I am obsessed with following Diane Kruger, Reese Witherspoon, and Kate Hudson

It was so fun to see A-list celebs sharing all the behind-the-scenes gossip from the Golden Globes – from the make-up chair, inside the limo, on the red carpet, during the award show and of course those boozy after parties. So I thought I would share a few of my favourites so you could add them you following list ahead of the next award show.

Are you following your favourite A-listers on Instagram?

Cover Loving: W Magazine’s Movie Issue By Tim Walker

W-Mag-emma-stone

It has been a while since a magazine cover actually excited me like these Tim Walker masterpieces for W Magazine’s annual movie issue featuring the top nominees ahead of the award season. Walker has snapped 39 nominees from Emma Stone, looking like a broken doll, to Julianne Moore, looking like she could be sisters with Effie from The Hunger Games, and even a very creepy Bradley Cooper dressed in a white.

There are 7 amazing covers, but for me the stand-outs have to be Emma Stone’s and Reese Witherspoon, I really love the ’70s free-love aesthetic, and seeing movie stars transformed into eccentric characters is just an another reason why Walker is a master at bridging the gap between fashion and art.

As well as the covers the accompanying editorial is just as strong with Jessica ChastainAmy Adams and Shailene Woodley looking equally eccentric. I love that magazines like W Magazine take a chance with Walker as these images wouldn’t look out of place in an art gallery, I actually think that is where they belong, they deserve to be hung up on walls.

What are you thoughts about W Magazine’s movie issue covers?

CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund: Reese Witherspoon In Oscar de la Renta

Reese-Witherspoon-OdlRWho: Actress Reese Witherspoon

Where: At the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Event that she co-hosted with designer Diane von Furstenberg  at Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles

Wearing: A gorgeous blue and black floral Oscar de la Renta dress teamed with black and white Giuseppe Zanotti heels and a polka-dot L.K. Bennett clutch

Verdict: This dress is everything that Oscar de la Renta was all about, pure elegance, and I love it on Reese.

The dress fits her perfectly, the nipped-in waist of the fit-n-flare designs really does show off the actress’ amazing figure, and I love that the elegance is paired with Oscar de la Renta playfulness with the plunging neckline and fun print.

Completing her look with black and white heels was a good choice, but for me the crowning glory of her styling has to be her amazing old-Hollywood waves swept to the side and her dramatic cat-eye make-up, she really does look beautiful.

Reese Witherspoon has been on a real winner lately on the red carpet and this is another stunning look.

Do you love Reese’s tribute to the late fashion legend?
