HBO Emmy Awards Party: Lucy Lui in Atelier Versace

Who: Lucy Lui

Where: HBO's Official Emmy After Party at The Plaza at the Pacific Design Center

Wearing: For her second look of the night, Lucy Liu changed into another Atelier Versace gown – this time opting for a softer ice blue strapless gown enriched with gold studs and a full tulle skirt

Verdict: This look is definitely not icy, on the countray this look is hot!!! It seems that even after smashing the red carpet in a metal sequinned Versace gown, Lucy wasn't done with grabbing all the attention, and this is another perfect look – she really has her A game in overdrive ahead of her new TV show.

What makes this look gorgeous is the contrast to her earlier look, this dress is romantic and soft, while still working the signature edgy Versace touches with the gold studs. I really have missed Lucy on the red carpet – this gown fits perfectly and she looks absolutely stunning – I love it.

What do you think does icy blue win over the metallic number she wore to the main event?

Primetime Emmy Awards: The Trends – Citrus Hues, A Sea Of Blue, and Shades Of Grey

trend1 Primetime Emmy Awards: The Trends Citrus Hues, A Sea Of Blue, and Shades Of Grey %tagI am a lover of the red carpet, I love seeing my favourite actresses, singers, and TV personalities looking all glamorous in designer couture gowns, and last night I was blown away by the standard of the Primetime Emmy Awards.

As well as spotting which designers they are wearing I also like to see the trends taking form, last award season there was a lot of open backs, and this Emmy Awards was all about a hint of colour, the various shades of blue and grey, with a little oxblood and floral mixed in for good measure.

I have already blogged some of my best dressed looks from January Jones’ statement Zac Posen gown to  Ginnifer Goodwin in Monique Lhuillier, to the shimmering beauty that was Lucy Liu in Versace, and the bombshell that is Sofia Vegara.

But with so many good looks I thought it best to do a trend post – so here are some more of my favourites.

Citrus Hues:

Normally there is a lot of black on award ceremony red carpet, that isn’t to say there wasn’t any last night – did you see January Jones, but what I was pleased about was all the citrus hues – ranging from vibrant oranges to canary yellow – maybe it was the California heat but the red carpet was sizzling.

Leading the orange pack was definitely Monique Lhuiller she dressed Ginnifer Goodwin in an orange floral embroidered beauty and Padma Lakshmi looked radiant in her strapless trumpet gown – the colour was perfection on her.

Then there was Leslie Mann in Naeem Khan, I love the contrast of the marigold coloured skirt with the embroidered ivory halter-neck bodice – seriously beautiful.

Finishing up the orange hues is Lindsay Pulsipher in Bibhu Mohapatra – everything about the colour to the Grecian styling of her hairstyle this is a gorgeous look.

Yellow was another key trend, which I was a little on the fence with as I am not sure about yellow on the red carpet, but I loved Julianne Moore’s canary yellow Christian Dior Couture gown – the full silk skirt looks stunning on her.

A pregnant and Emmy award-winning Claire Danes went for Lanvin, she said ”it’s very bump friendly”, which is very true the draping was flattering and the colour really complemented her skin-tone.

But my favourite of the yellow gowns had to be ‘New Girl’ star Hannah Simone in a sunny yellow custom one-shoulder Emilio Pucci gown. I love the shade, I love the sexy thigh-high split, and the Lorraine Schwartz leaf earrings. One thing I can’t cope with though is her visible tan marks!!!

A Sea of Blue:

The blue tones ranged from aqua to midnight blue and each really stood out on the red carpet. Leading the pack were the darker shades, it is hard to choose my favourite but the two that really stood out were Sarah Paulson in Reem Acra, the embroidery was exquisite, and I adored the Louis Vuitton gown that British actress Michelle Dockery wore, it was simple but elegant.

I also added in Hayden Panettiere into the mix, I have to be honest I kind of like the dress the gold-embroidered Marchesa gown with blue tulle overlay works well, but I worry that it is a little too mature for her.

The aqua and pale blue hues were a little more playful and sexy. From the neck down I adored Julianne Hough’s Georges Hobeika Couture, I just don’t understand what she did with her hair. Heidi Klum showed off her sexy side in in Alexandre Vauthier - showing Angelina Jolie how to work a thigh-high slit.

But the gown that caught my attention had to be Zooey Deschanel’s princess gown designed by Reem Acra, it was whimsical, quirky and cute and she looked amazing, but why in all the pictures is she not smiling???

Shades Of Grey:

There is always something nice about grey and silver tones on the red carpet, always makes me think of Old-Hollywood glamour, and there were some elegant gowns last night.

Emily VanCamp from my new favourite show Revenge looked gorgeous in a delicate pleated J. Mendel gown, I adore the dove grey shade and the sheer bodice. But what makes this outfit has to be her bow tie Van Cleef bracelet – the best jewellery of the night!!!

With grey comes shimmery silvers and Lucy Lui in Versace and Kerry Washington in Vivienne Westwood Couture both dazzled at the Emmy’s, Kerry’s gown just looked effortless and sexy. I am going to call it tie between these two.

There were a number of Vivienne Westwood Couture gowns on the red carpet last night, with Downton Abbey star Joanne Froggatt leading the charge in this incredible corseted gown, which had a belt to nip in her tiny waist, and a split to add a touch of sexy – this dress had it all!

But my favourite shade of grey goes to Homeland’s actress Morena Baccarin who wore a sexy Basil Soda gown with a plunging neckline. I love the daring flash of cleavage, hey if you looked like Morena wouldn’t you flash them, and the David Webb drop earrings – this is a statement gown that totally floored me I love it!!!

Primetime Emmy Awards: January Jones Makes A Statement In Zac Posen

JanuaryJones Primetime Emmy Awards: January Jones Makes A Statement In Zac Posen %tag

Who: January Jones

Where: At the 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles

Wearing: A black structured Zac Posen gown from the Resort 2013 collection, teamed with black peep-toe platforms, a black clutch and finishing off her edgy look is slicked back hair and smoky eyes

Verdict: I always look forward to seeing January Jones hit the red carpet, she never seems to disappoint me and always goes for dramatic showstopping looks and this is another gorgeous red carpet outfit from her.

While I love the gown with all of its architectural bold lines I can’t help think that this gown looks a little familiar, is it just me that thinks that January’s gown looks a little like the gorgeous Donna Karan dress that Kerry Washington wore last year? Come on the similarities are certainly there aren’t they.

Even with the design déjà vu it doesn’t distract from a gorgeous look, everything from the edgy platforms to the bold hair and make-up – this is another best dressed look from January Jones.

Would January Jones be in your best dressed list?

Primetime Emmy Awards: Julianna Margulies in Giambattista Valli Couture

JuliannaMarguiles Primetime Emmy Awards: Julianna Margulies in Giambattista Valli Couture %tagWho: Julianna Margulies

Where: At the 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles

Wearing: A strapless floral printed Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown from the autumn/winter 2012 collection, teamed with Brian Atwood heels and Fred Leighton jewellery

Verdict: I promise I am not going to do a separate post for each and every look off the Emmy Awards red carpet but I have picked out a number of looks that I adored, or surprised me, and this look from Julianna Margulies ticks both columns.

Normally, Julianna goes for Armani or Calvin Klein she likes the minimalist structured gowns, and I have to be honest I thought it would have been another Armani look, but this divine couture gown from Giambattista Valli is stunning on her. I love the floral pattern, the hidden pockets, and her bling Fred Leighton earrings finishes off her look perfectly.

This is a hot look and I am glad that she stepped out of her comfort zone as she looks beautiful and she is definitely one of my best dressed of the night.

Do you rate Julianna in this haute couture Giambattista Valli?

Primetime Emmy Awards: Nicole Kidman In Antonio Berardi

Wearing: A white column Antonio Berardi gown featuring blue embellished detailing to the bodice and front from the spring/summer 2013 collection, teamed with Christian Louboutin heels and Fred Leighton jewellery

Verdict: I do love seeing London Fashion Week designers on the red carpet, what makes Nicole Kidman’s dress choice even more amazing is that this Antonio Berardi gown only just hit the catwalk last week, that is fast turnaround – I haven’t even blogged about the show yet.

There is always an elegance about Nicole and this gown is perfection for her, I love the column silhouette, but this dress for me is all about the incredible striking blue embellishments – simply breathtaking.

Primetime Emmy Awards: Sofia Vergara In Zuhair Murad

Wearing: A teal-green sequinned Zuhair Murad gown featuring a halter neckline to the front, an open back, with a mermaid silhouette from the Resort 2012 collection, teamed with Neil Lane jewellery

Verdict: Sofia is known for her body-hugging gowns and even though this look is a little predictable from her, I also love that she knows what works for her body.

This is one sexy gown, I love the open back, the jewel tone looks stunning against her skin tone and tumbling locks, and Sofia is always the one to bring the bling to the red carpet and Neil Lane decked her out beautifully.

What do you think? Do you love this sexy gown on Sofia?

Primetime Emmy Awards: Ginnifer Goodwin in Monique Lhuillier

ginnygoodwin Primetime Emmy Awards: Ginnifer Goodwin in Monique Lhuillier %tag

Who: Ginnifer Goodwin

Where: At the 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles

Wearing: An orange floral Monique Lhuillier gown from the Resort 2013 collection, teamed with Rona Pfeiffer and Graziela jewellery, Christian Louboutin heels and a  Ferragamo clutch

Verdict: As well as being excited about what the celebs wear at these award ceremonies I am always interested to see which stylists pull out all the stops and this Primetime Emmy Awards it has to be Penny Lovell as she really did an amazing job teaming Ginnifer Goodwin with this statement Monique Lhuillier gown.

I love the colour, the bright orange really popped nicely on the red carpet, I adore the vintage quality of the gown with the dip hem and the floral embroidery, and like with Anne Hathaway I love that Ginnifer really knows how to work her pixie crop.

As well as being impressed by the lovely gown I was also blown away by her gorgeous make-up, her smoky eyes, flawless skin and nude lip is perfection.

There was a lot of colour on the red carpet last night, which I loved, but I think this Monique Lhuillier will be topping the best dressed lists across the board – I love this show stopping look.
