Inside The Cath Kidston House

If Cath Kidston sold houses I think it would pretty much look like this, with walls of course, decorated out with just the right mix of florals, birds, mushrooms, penguins and polka dot prints.

I love it when brands make their press days more of a presentation, something to grab my attention, something to get me excited, and this make-shift house set in the middle of central London certainly did that, the only thing that was missing was the fictional Cath Kidston family!!!

Known for its quirky English sensibility, there is something about Cath Kidston that makes it universally liked, I think practically everyone has something from the shop – whether it is a floral bone china tea cup, a dotty handbag, a strawberry cover iPhone case, or even a cowboy mug. For me Cath Kidston is the ultimately gift shop, you can always pick up something cute and memorable for a friend or family member.

Press Preview: Warehouse – Spring/Summer 2013

I know I haven't been doing reviews of every press day, I will share some of my favourite pieces in a round-up blog, but I just had to show you what Warehouse have coming for spring/summer 2013 as I was blown away.

First up the location, the Warehouse press team always seem to get the venue so right, last season was an amazing gallery where they put on an exhibition, and this time round they went for the rooftop bar of the new, not even opened, ME London hotel. This place is incredible, sharp, crisp white and mirrored interior, a glass canopied rooftop that let's you see straight down into reception, and then there is the amazing view – you can see the everything from the London Eye to Tower Bridge and with it being opposite Somerset House you are so close to that you can nearly see people skating. I reckon this is going to be one hot location for fashion week.

The setting was perfect for Warehouse's opulent and very high-end collection that had a gorgeous mixture of maxi dresses, sixties shifts, jumpsuits, prints, cute jackets, and lots and lots of monochrome and textured pieces.

My eyes were quickly drawn to all the structured monochrome styles, which had intricate zip detailing, gorgeous silhouettes and textured pieces full of fringing, lace touches, beaded embellishments and studs – there were a lot of pieces that I am going to want to invest in next season.

A Closer Look: Louis Vuitton – Spring/Summer 2013

I am in the midst of press day season at the moment, and one of my early highlights so far has to be checking out the Louis Vuitton spring/summer 2013 collection in their London showroom. I always love seeing catwalk collections up-close, especially when they are such a big accessories brand like Louis Vuitton as walking through the collection I got to mentally pick out all the handbags I would love to add to my collection.

It seems that spring/summer 2013 is going to be all about the tiny handbag, a step towards elegance and a nod to the retro, which I love, but I am also scared as it means I have to give up on my divine oversized handbags that seem to be able to hold everything.

The Louis Vuitton ready-to-wear explores symmetry and mirrors and has a touch of the 60s about it, I love the chess-board effect, whether it was in black or the custard yellow mixed with white, the clothes really stand out.

I left the press day with an enormous mental wish-list – from the oversized sunglasses to the orange envelope handbag to the super cute sequinned flamingo t-shirt, oh and a Louis Vuitton scarf, or two!!!

AW12: Primark’s Homage To Pringle Of Scotland

Yesterday, I popped by Primark’s autumn/winter 2012 press day at The Gallery underneath Wolf & Badger’s new store on Dover Street, and was blown away by the gorgeous jumpers, cute dresses, and the abundance of embellished collars, yes they aren’t going anywhere for a while.

The highlight, and the first thing that I spotted as I walked in was a near replica of one of my favourite wearable looks from London Fashion Week, do you remember how much I gushed about the pink v-neck jumper at the Pringle of Scotland? Well, Primark have answered my prays and delivered me an amazing designer copy, that will only set me back £12, yep that’s right just over a tenner for this beauty. We have a few months to wait, it doesn’t drop in store until September, but don’t worry you won’t miss out I have already added it into my Filofax!!!

The rest of the AW12 collection has influences from Miu Miu, House of Holland, Markus Lupfer, Gucci, and Marios Schwab to name but a few, as you would expect a lot of variety: elegant cigarette trousers, chic boucle jackets, sheer shirts, ski knits, gorgeous statement necklaces, peplum tops, and lots of embellished collars.

Project 365: Day 116 – Collars Are Here To Stay For AW12

Today was hectic, I had more than 10 press days, and I have to admit I am feeling a little chuffed at the fact I made eight of them. One of the biggest trends I have spotted other than equestrian, horsey-attire, has to be embellished collars.

Like most I love a good Peter Pan collar and even decorative necklace collars that are perfect additions to an old outfit, well it seems so do all the retailers as they aren’t going anywhere for autumn/winter 2012.

Above is a display from Dorothy Perkins press day, but everyone from Miss Selfridge, Topshop, Wallis, Matalan, and even Warehouse had embellished collars, detachable collars, necklace collars, you name it collars are definitely here to stay for another season.

AW12: A Closer Look At Pringle Of Scotland

One of my favourite shows at London Fashion Week was Pringle of Scotland, which kind of surprised me, known for its traditional twin-sets I loved that Alistair Carr really mixed it up and showcased a fresh approach from the British heritage brand, and in my opinion made it very cool.

Not only did the show have one of the best front rows because Rose Byrne was on it, but I loved its Clueless-meets-school girl vibe with the bright pink jumpers, pleated skirts, and best of all I adored all the coats, but what the press day showed me was how amazing not only the intricate knits are, but also that Pringle of Scotland need to release the amazing footwear – the can heels are insane and I love them!!!

The shoes were the highlight of the re-see mainly because the rugged can heels worked perfectly with the creative touches of the collection, especially against the tube-knit dresses and jumpers, and the pops of colour on the collars. Simply divine and who thought that a can of beans could look so sexy. I need these navy and maroon ankle boots, they would the ultimate AW12 winter boot for me.

This mustard knit dress is one of my favourite pieces, not only is the colour autumn personified but I love the crazy tubing, which I so want to try on to see if it is actually as flattering as it looks.

The coats are still high-up on my wishlist – I love the combination of the peach woolly collar against the navy – so chic, I think I might not eat all summer just to afford it when it comes out!!!

AW12: Lulu Guinness – Brings Back Her Book Bags

Yesterday I went to check out what treats Lulu Guinness has in store for us all come autumn, and I was blown away by all the quirky details, the luxurious finishes, and gorgeous colours, in a collection inspired by the eclectic book stores on Charing Cross Road and the Audrey Hepburn film, Funny Face and by her ‘Beauty and Brains’ character.

Entitled ‘Don’t Judge A Book By Its Cover’ the collection is filled with Lulu Guinness classics as well new designs include two new gorgeous day bags, the Audrey and the Nicola, which come in a variety of colours and leathers, as well as the iconic Lulu Guinness gold lip hardware.

One of my favourite Lulu Guinness clutch styles, the Fifi has been given a doll makeover for autumn/winter, as it will be available in the quirky Doll Face design – this is top of my wishlist. In addition, the classic Lips has added this gorgeous gold number, I still have a soft spot for the candy pink one.

One of my favourite pieces from the collection had to be this souvenir shop box bag, with its I love London, Big Ben, Abbey Road road sign and other London favourites. This was joined by a red telephone box iPhone cover, a tote bag and very patriotic Union Jack lips and a sequinned clutch.

The novelty collection is one of the strongest to date and I am loving that Lulu has decided to revisit her book bags embellished with some of her favourite sayings. I totally want this vibrant pink, Dare to be Different with its embossed gold foiling – so cool.
