SS14: Sophia Webster Is Supa Dupa Fly

SS14 sophia webster 13 SS14: Sophia Webster Is Supa Dupa Fly %tagDuring London Fashion Week one of the most talked about presentations had to be Sophia Webster’s secret garden in the middle of Regent’s Park for her spring/summer 2014 collection entitled, Supa Dupa Fly. I sadly missed it, and was uber jealous of everyone that attended as I love Sophia’s quirky accessories – from the incredible crafted heels to her speech bubble clutches.

Last week I had the chance to see her collection up-close and it was everything I was expecting and more after falling in love with the pictures of her presentation. Granted it wasn’t the same as standing in the middle of the secret garden being serenaded by Katy B, and seeing the models frolicking with the flowers, but I did get to see the incredible attention to detail in each piece.

There is something about Sophia Webster that gets me a little excited – maybe it is the fun girlie vibe of the brand or the kitsch elements, but I can’t help but love her pieces. The SS14 collection is no different, filled with butterflies, ladybird polka dots, bumblebees, with a hint of hilarious 90s attitude on her signature speech bubble clutches – every-time I see the BugABoo clutch I can’t stop singing Destiny’s Child to myself.

My favourite pieces had to be the butterflies, I am slightly obsessed with the fluttering beauties, and her laser cut leather flats and sandals with butterfly wings on the heels are divine. I also adore the cloud perspex heels and the ‘Killer’ heels.

Oh how I would love to flutter into spring in a pair of her heels!!!

AW13 Preview: River Island’s New Collection

AW13 river island 2 AW13 Preview: River Islands New Collection %tag

If you love bold and striking fashion then you are going to love River Island’s autumn/winter 2013 collection that is starting to roll out across stores.

I’ve already given you a sneak peek of the collection, from my behind-the-scenes at their lookbook shoot post, but as I have spotted a few of the pieces in store and online I thought it best to share my favourite pieces from such a strong collection.

Known for not being afraid to have fun with fashion, the AW13 range is jam-packed full of trends, everything from monochrome, yep black and white pieces aren’t going anywhere to teen spirit, think 90s grunge with tartan, dark florals and cropped knits.

One of my favourite trends has to be Supernova, with its runway-inspired glam looks that are party ready and little bit Balmain with its mix of patchwork sequins, textures and prints. The one piece I think everyone will want is this cute sequinned mini – how hot is that. Dress it up for a full on glam look or why not just pair with a white tee and a blazer.

There were lots of pieces that caught my attention from the striking cobalt blue tote, this was love at first sight, perfect fashion week size, to the neon crystal embroidered dress to the tapestry-inspired pieces, especially this dress with a jewelled necklace attached, to the gorgeous statement coats, I know pink is everywhere fancy something different why not try out this orange one, and I think I need to update my biker boots with these chained beauties.

Of course I couldn’t share autumn/winter looks without a look at the coats – I am really drawn to the oversized mannish checked one.

Then we have the accessories, a section that keeps on getting stronger for River Island, this season there are lot of party-ready heels for the Christmas season, cute satchels, statement jewels, kinky boots and a selection of fun baseball caps and beanies.

Shopping: Hobbs’ Impressive Autumn/Winter Collection

AW13 hobbs 4 Shopping: Hobbs Impressive Autumn/Winter Collection %tag

One of the brands that surprised me during the autumn/winter 2013 press days had to be Hobbs, I’ve heard such good things from the retailer from my friends, but I have to be honest I don’t regularly shop there.

For AW13 the offering is really strong and directional – with incredible bold tailored coordinated pieces, gorgeous oversized, mannish coats, and super flattering full skirts and items with delicate detailing on such as cut-work lace and scalloped edged collars.

There is an elegance about the new collection, that you would expect from Hobbs, but also a more fashion-forward feel – it really has stepped up for autumn/winter to rival Jaeger for contemporary womenswear with an edge.

One of the highlights of the collection for me has to be the gorgeous ‘Persephone’ tapestry-inspired silk printed matching pieces, the green print really made an impact at the preview, and the model look incredible wearing the trousers, shirt, coat and bag together. For everyday life maybe this look is a tad too bold, but I think the trousers and coat could totally work together with a more neutral top.

There were a lot of other pieces that stood out from the oversized mannish windowpane checked coat to the dress worn over a shirt and trousers, and the gorgeous feminine details of the Hobbs N.W.3 collection.

But what really caught my eye was the strength of its accessories collection, especially its Italian-made footwear from cute brogues from the traditional to the heeled to the boot variety, leopard-print ankle boots and wear all-day long stacked court shoes. This really is a great place to look for new classic shoes this season.

Are you a fan of Hobbs? Let me know in the comments below what you think of the autumn/winter 2013 collection.

Shopping Preview: H&M – Autumn 2013 Collection

Autumn HM 9 Shopping Preview: H&M Autumn 2013 Collection %tag

I know that the autumn/winter 2013 fashion week’s seem a long time ago, and talking about wintry clothing while the sun is shining does feel like I am jinxing the rest of the summer, but the autumn collections are starting to roll out on the high street so I thought it was about time I shared some of my favourite press days.

First up we have H&M’s autumn collection, the one that split opinions when it was shown as part of Paris Fashion Week in February, but seeing the curated line up close has made me a fan of this mainly black, flirty Boho chic collection. I think that even though most of the pieces are priced more than the normal H&M items, for instance the gorgeous wool skirt below is around the £150 mark, I still think this collection will fly off the shelves.

Autumn HM 17 Shopping Preview: H&M Autumn 2013 Collection %tag

There were lots of highlights from the heavy laser-cut wool skirt with an autumnal leaf embroidery design, to gorgeous beaded dresses, fluffy jumpers, thigh-high boots, Baker Boy caps and incredible vintage-inspired accessories.

Granted the collection might be for everyone, I am a fan of the Boho elements, but they aren’t really my style, and I love the flirty beaded dresses, but where would I wear them, but there are pieces that I will certainly be looking for come September including this statement necklace, the jewellery clasp shoes, and the sleeveless coat. I think once you see the collection in person you will be pleasantly surprised not only by the pieces but the quality of the items.

This sleeveless tailored coat really reminds me of the one that Victoria Beckham was sporting from her own autumn/winter 2013 collection. The only question I have – how and when will I wear this? I was thinking it would look cool layered over straight trousers, and a cute cropped chunky jumper – I just think for this look to work the jacket has to be long and has to be worn open.

Bag Lust: Coach’s Autumn/Winter 2013 Preview

AW13 coach press day 4 Bag Lust: Coachs Autumn/Winter 2013 Preview %tag

I always ‘um and ah’ about posting press day pictures, I worry that they will come across as lazy posts, but I have been going over some of my pictures from my autumn/winter 2013 showroom visits and I had to share what’s coming up for American label, Coach.

For me, bags are the ultimate designer purchase, granted some do cost a couple of hundred pounds but each and every one, especially if they are made of leather and are classic in their design, make great investments – not just in financial terms but also for your wardrobe.

Just this weekend I reorganised the mountain of bags I own, each in their own dust bag, each padded to keep their shape, and each looking nearly as good as the day I bought or was given it. I generally stick to classic shapes, so the current ‘It’ bag isn’t for me, but that doesn’t mean just neutral colours my collection is filled with vibrant blues, pinks, and reds, as well as a number of black, tan and even a white one – basically I look at handbags as a great way to jazz up an outfit so collecting all the colours in the rainbow is definitely a goal.

AW13 coach press day 7 Bag Lust: Coachs Autumn/Winter 2013 Preview %tag

One brand not currently represented in my collection is Coach, which I most certainly need to look into immediately – especially after seeing their impressive autumn/winter 2013 collection.

One of the pieces that really stood out for me at the press day, other than all the tassels, had to be this gorgeous mustard yellow bag, which kind of reminds me of a modern-day take of a Doctors bag. I love everything from the colour to the silver clasps, the large size and the textured leather.

Now I am not sure on the price, but I am going to guess that it is around the £500 mark, sounds a lot but just think how many pieces in your wardrobe this beauty would enhance. It would perfectly go with a little black dress, jeans and a white shirt, or even a floral jumpsuit. I know black might be the preferred choice when it comes to handbags but I really do love a colourful bag.

The rest of the collection was just as lust worthy, filled with vibrant reds, exquisite textured pieces, vibrant prints, and even a hot pink clutch that has also been added to my wishlist.

If you haven’t checked out Coach’s flagship on New Bond Street in London, or on Regent Street – do – this is a brand filled with options from adorable clutches to fashion week super-sized totes and best of all they generally come in every shade of the colour spectrum – so there is always something to suit your mood.

Are you a Coach fan? Do let me know which style you are lusting over…

Inside The Cath Kidston House

cath kidston house 28 Inside The Cath Kidston House %tag

If Cath Kidston sold houses I think it would pretty much look like this, with walls of course, decorated out with just the right mix of florals, birds, mushrooms, penguins and polka dot prints.

I love it when brands make their press days more of a presentation, something to grab my attention, something to get me excited, and this make-shift house set in the middle of central London certainly did that, the only thing that was missing was the fictional Cath Kidston family!!!

Known for its quirky English sensibility, there is something about Cath Kidston that makes it universally liked, I think practically everyone has something from the shop – whether it is a floral bone china tea cup, a dotty handbag, a strawberry cover iPhone case, or even a cowboy mug. For me Cath Kidston is the ultimately gift shop, you can always pick up something cute and memorable for a friend or family member.

What do you think – would you like to move into a Cath Kidston clad house?

Press Preview: Warehouse – Spring/Summer 2013

SS13 Warehouse 3 Press Preview: Warehouse Spring/Summer 2013 %tagI know I haven't been doing reviews of every press day, I will share some of my favourite pieces in a round-up blog, but I just had to show you what Warehouse have coming for spring/summer 2013 as I was blown away.

First up the location, the Warehouse press team always seem to get the venue so right, last season was an amazing gallery where they put on an exhibition, and this time round they went for the rooftop bar of the new, not even opened, ME London hotel. This place is incredible, sharp, crisp white and mirrored interior, a glass canopied rooftop that let's you see straight down into reception, and then there is the amazing view – you can see the everything from the London Eye to Tower Bridge and with it being opposite Somerset House you are so close to that you can nearly see people skating. I reckon this is going to be one hot location for fashion week.

My eyes were quickly drawn to all the structured monochrome styles, which had intricate zip detailing, gorgeous silhouettes and textured pieces full of fringing, lace touches, beaded embellishments and studs – there were a lot of pieces that I am going to want to invest in next season.
