AW13 Preview: Primark Has The Trends Covered

Each season Primark seems to be developing its offering, it is a high street store that is no longer just for picking up basics such as boyfriends tees, or a statement piece of jewellery for a night out – this is a shop that is has really upped its game to bring shoppers the latest trends at affordable prices.

For most, me included, trends can be a little scary, they are mostly out of people’s comfort zones and you are never sure how long they are going to last. What I love about Primark is that it is a place where you can test out a trend, save a few bob along the way, while still looking good.

For autumn/winter 2013 there are several key trends to look out for – from the pink invasion to 90’s grunge, sporty and minimal, as well as punk. Some are easier than others, for instant adding a touch of pink to your wardrobe is probably the easiest to wear, and I love that Primark has a lovely selection from sugary hues to vibrant bold pinks, so whether you want to make a statement in a pink coat, or add a touch of pink with a gorgeous jumper or a tailored pair of trousers – there will be a lot of options.

Minimal and sporty is also a trend that’s easy to master, you will probably already have a lot of options in your wardrobe as it is a continuation from a spring/summer trend. In Primark you will find pieces with an elegant edge – from block coloured dresses, to coats with contrasting panels, as well as some cute sparkly trainers.

One of my favourite trends for autumn/winter has to be the return of the 90’s grunge, think lots of tartan, crackled leather, lace up boots, and statement jewellery.

Whether you are updating your wardrobe with some key staples or adding a few statement pieces – trust me pop into Primark you may be surprised with what you come out with!!!

What are you thoughts on Primark’s autumn/winter 2013 collection?

My Style: A Pop Of Colour & A Gorgeous Cambridge Garden

I have lived in the Cambridge area for just over five years now and for years I have driven past the Cambridge University Botanic Gardens on my way into town and wondered what was behind the magnificent gates, so when my Mum came to stay we decided to do something a little quieter, a bit more relaxed than our tourist day trip to London and take in the scenery of the heritage gardens.

Boasting more than 40 acres – this is one hell of a garden – filled with gorgeous flowers, huge trees, a water lily inspired fountain and a rock garden to envy – as well as one of the most gorgeous collection of cactuses – the only plant I can seem to keep alive!!!

Well as it was a garden I decided to add a pop of colour to my casual look – well it would be rude not to in such a beautiful place wouldn’t it!!! You will have seen this Primark knit before, I am obsessed with the Barbie pink colour as well as the blue fleck that runs through it, which never seems to come in pictures, but that is why I decided to team it with my blue spotty dog scarf I picked up from New Look.

My favourite aspect of this look though has to be all the gorgeous arm candy. I am working my new black and gold flowerball bracelet from Folli Follie, a fairly new brand to me but since I went for afternoon tea at their store last year I have been obsessed with all their pretty jewellery.

I also wore my new bracelets that I bought at Urban Outfitters for the first time – two gold initial bracelets with ‘D’ and ‘P’ in love hearts highlighting mine and my boyfriends first names – I wanted to do ‘DWS’ for my name but they were all out of ‘W’ so I thought a soppy declaration of love would be more fitting!!!

Also at Urban Outfitters my Mum bought me this super cute Gemini friendship bracelet – I love the colours and the charm and it can basically be worn with anything and it was less than £10 – my sort of bracelet.

My final piece of arm candy is the exquiste and delicate evil eye friendship bracelet from Astley Clarke, which has become my new jewellery brand to lust over – I am obsessed with their ring stacks. This is my first and only piece from the brand, but it sure wont be the last!!!

As well as striking a pose it was nice to have a wander around this magnificent garden, especially the Winter Garden, filled with burnt oranges, deep reds and gorgeous snow drops. My other favourite spot had to be the lake, seeing the reflections of the trees flickering across the water was so relaxing, and I wanted all the brightly coloured flowers from inside the greenhouse – especially this powderpuff flower.

Gadget: My Barbie Pink Retro Ice-Phone

Sunday’s are generally catch-up days, whether that’s reading through my stack of magazines, writing my very long to-do lists for the up-coming week, or catching up with friends and family on the phone. With being away last week in France and still feeling slightly ill, yesterday seemed to be one long catch-up and I have to admit I quite enjoyed it, especially as I got to use my cool Ice-Phone gadget.

From the brilliant Ice-Watch peeps, the Ice-Phone is a cool gadget that not only brightens up any office – it comes in ten funky colours, it is also a practical-yet-fun device that adds a little nostalgia to any room with its retro shape and rotary dialling, plus the best bit is that it really does offer the most comfortable way to natter away an afternoon with friends.

If like me you don’t really use your house phone, basically we have one for internet and emergency purposes, and your mobile burning against your ear puts you off chatting for too long, then the Ice-Phone is  a great way of bringing the comfort back into chatting on the phone. Plus this beauty doesn’t just hook up to your mobile it is also compatible with tablets like iPads and computers, which means Skype just got a lot more chic!!!

I of course went for the Barbie pink colour, but just like their amazing range of watches, the Ice-Phone comes in ten different colours, which basically means there is one to suit every need – also at £29.95 this beauty isn’t going to break the bank.

So which colour would you go for?

**Thanks to Ice-Phone for sending me out a retro handset to review**
