I have been to Paris a number of times, but it was only recently when I was in town for Paris Fashion Week, that I discovered the amazing Love Bridge, aka Pont des Arts.
This pedestrian bridge across the Seine River, linking the Institut de France and the Palais du Louvre, is adorned with Love Padlocks which people have customised to symbolize their love.
It was literately covered from end-to-end, I was memorised by it, there were padlocks that have been there for years. I loved the heart-shaped padlock, the red spotty one, and found the engraved handcuffs a little bit too much. I seriously could have stayed on this bridge for hours taking in the memories.
Apparently, this custom of ‘locking a padlock and throwing away the key’ probably originated in China, I really like the idea. I think I will have to get one for Paulie and I and lock it to our garden fence!!
Every time I go to Paris, one of my highlights has to be the Colette window display. Last year, it was an amazing super heroes celebrating DC Comics and this time round it was all about Ken Carson turning 50.
In collaboration with Cassette Playa, this window is like a mini exhibition as it features a display of Ken archive dolls spanning six decades, one of my favourite has to be Totally Hair Ken from 1992, it is the purple trousers and white shoes – very trendy!!
CP X Ken capsule collection features Cassette Playa’s signature oversized digital print silk t-shirts, pants and shorts, featuring printed 3D fold Ken torsos, roses, as well as text message and BBM symbols. My favourite piece of the collection has to be the Merino wool embroidered cricket sweaters, go for either white with blue and red stripes, or my personal fav the black teamed with red and blue stripes, yours for €240.
Don’t worry not all the pieces in the Ken shop are expensive, why not pick up this limited-edition Cassette Playa keyring, €15.
Love Ken? Love this collection? Then you have to check out the amazing shoot from Dazed & Confused – seriously cool clothes for a fifty year-old doll!!!
I love how fashion week can bring together two brands and produce something cool, and I was so excited that with my first time going to Paris Fashion Week that my favourite Parisian store Colette had teamed up with Chanel for a temporary space.
Located at 336-340 rue Saint-Honoré *literarly just up the road from Colette*, the pop-up boutique is being housed in a former garage, and has gathered some cool artists to decorate it alongside Chanel’s spring/summer 2011 collection.
I loved this space, not only for the collector’s doll by Karl Lagerfeld *sadly at €1,200 – a little out of my price range*, but the giant Be@rbrick’s holding Blake Lively’s favourite bag the Mademoiselle, to the nail bar and cupcake bar, and all this alongside a DJ playing great tunes.
I seriously could have spent all day here. Wish spaces like this would just pop-up in Londontown.
Sorry for the lack of great piccies, but these were the only ones I could get on my Blackberry before being told off by the burly security guys.
This week of course it was Haute Couture time in Paris, and Gucci held a party to celebrate the re-opening of its Rue Royale flagship, as well as a special send off to French Vogue’s soon-to-be departed EiC Carine Roitfeld with an intimate dinner held at the Italian Embassy.
Of course Gucci always attracts the most stylish of celebrities, and this party in Paris was no different, with the likes of Diane Kruger, Jessica Alba, Olivia Wilde and Charlotte Casiraghi looking chic and fabulous in the name of the Italian brand.
I have already gushed about Diane Kruger, but she really does look amazing in a backless Gucci silk organza dress, pictured above with the gorgeous Jessica Alba wearing a one-of-a-kind Gucci embroidered sheath. I wish I had more pics of Jessica as from the other angle you would be able to see the draping detailing which I adore!
But even from these images you can see the amazing embroidered degradé of beads and crystals – she really does sparkle.
While Diane and Olivia looked edgy, I love that Jessica looked radiant in a gorgeous cocktail dress, it just shows how amazing Gucci is, that such varied looks totally belong together.
I really am loving Oliva Wilde at the moment, and this look just reinforces it. Opting for a sleek black and jade silk jumpsuit from Gucci’s spring collection, she really does pull off this bold colour option so well. I love the blue sash teamed with her electric blue clutch finished off nicely with a chunky gold necklace.
It is a hard choice on best dressed – but I think Olivia just pips Diane – just!!
Black certainly was a popular colour, with Charlotte Casiraghi going for a modern and regal look in a matte jersey jumpsuit from Gucci’s spring collection, and both Frida Giannini and French Vogue Editor-in-Chief Carine Roitfeld opting for the classsic shade.
How hot does Frida look in her slim cut velvet tuxedo – LOVE!!
Where: At the Gucci Rue Royale reopening party in Paris
Wearing: A backless black silk organza Gucci dress with embellished metal fringe embroidery teamed with Gucci platforms
Verdict: This is a gorgeous dress, it dazzles in the light and is perfect for Diane. I love the open back on this cocktail dress, it really makes it more glamorous and I love how it creates such an elegant silhouette on her. This has to be one of my favourite looks for Diane in a while. LOVE!!

Where: At the opening of the Giambattista Valli Paris boutique
Wearing: Well Giambattista Valli of course from the spring/summer 2011 collection
Verdict: I like this silk cocktail dress with its patchwork vibe of silver, orange and animal prints. Completely different from her other looks this week – and that is why I love her so much.
Wearing: Look 23 straight from Chanel’s Haute Couture spring/summer 2011 collection, a soft pink dress which falls slightly off the shoulders, with tiered detailing and black bow accent. Finished off with a rhinestone-embellished clutch and black peep-toe heels
Verdict: Seriously fast work by Diane choosing her favourite Chanel piece from the Couture show, it only went down the runway earlier this week, I definitely think she is the first celebrity to wear something from that collection! I love the colour, I love her hair up, but seriously the whole onsomble is just so tres chic!!
As always Elie Saab produced a gorgeous Haute Couture spring collection, entitled A Woman of Character, each dress was more gorgeous than the next. I am sure that we will see a number of these dresses at the BAFTAs and the Oscars in the coming weeks, and I hoping that one of the showstoppers above gets a chance to shine. I can totally see Anne Hathaway working the flower number, and Cameron Diaz dazzling in the thigh-high split black gown and the nude would be perfect on Sandra Bullock. But I would just be happy seeing them walk the red carpet.
The collection was full of delicate lace and embroidery, tulle, organza and chiffon prints, with a colour palette of tea-rose pink, mauve, rasperberry, aniseed green and stone, the perfect mix of spring. In the show-notes the colour palette was attributed to a scented breeze, and I love that description for the exquisite collection of gowns.
This collection has lots of defined waists, with many of the gowns belted with an embroidered tone-on-tone grosgrain ribbon, my favourite has to be these stone gowns.
As the title suggests woman of character, this collection has options with high-cut boat necks, one-shoulders, deep v-necks, sweet-heart strapless, square necks, and there are sexy, regal and romantic looks – seriously something for every shape, personality and occasion as there were more cocktail gowns than normal.
Can’t have couture gowns without a section dedicated to the black beauties, and these were my three favourites. The middle one in-particular I could see walking the red carpet as is, gorgeous contrast of the delicate lace white bodice against the curve accentuating skirt – totally old Hollywood glamour that needs flash bulbs to shine.
As with most couture finales, the Elie Saab wedding dress gown, divine. This was a collection that floated down the runway, gorgeous, I really can’t fault anything, totally love at first sight!!
