Store Loving: Inside Osprey London’s Regent Street Flagship

There is something special about Osprey London, not only because it makes great handbags that I adore, or the fact that it really does champion British manufacturing and design, but because it is very much a family run business with founder and creative director Graeme Ellisdon at the helm, his wife Alex curating the amazing jewellery collections, and even his son Jack is on hand in the store’s Saddlery Cafe.

Much like the brand’s St Alban’s store, the Regent Street store utilises the amazing Grade II listed building, which was once a Barclay’s bank, to showcase the eclectic mix of leather accessories, jewellery, interior pieces, even knitted toys and food. Everything about the store interior is divine – from the solid oak doors at the entrance to the exquisite chandeliers and the stainless steel staircase and that’s without talking about the brand’s diverse selection of interior pieces such as gorgeous arm chairs, antique picture frames and a fun choice of cushions.

LFW SS14: Day 1 – Highlights, The Apartment & My Style

LFW-SS14

There is something different about London Fashion Week this season, even with the rain pouring down on Somerset House there is a positive up-beat vibe that I am loving.

Starting with the beautifully sunny Bora Aksu, the feminine sporty look of Fyodor Golan, and the utilitarian cool of Christopher Raeburn, and ending with a look around Topshop’s designer showroom and a fashion film presentation from River Island for their new collaboration with Eudon Choi.

Day 1 was a busy one.

What to wear on day 1 is always a worry – fashion week can be a little like starting high school – instead of wondering if the cool kids will like you its more like will a street style photographer want to take my picture. This would only happen in my dreams. My wardrobe for fashion week is always more about comfort than an outrageous style statement – I find the best way to embrace fashion week is to go as yourself and you can’t go wrong.

So for the opening day of shows I went for my new monochrome ASOS dress as I really wanted to wear my new Topshop red Dorothy shoes with a tiny heel, they are my geeky shoes and I love wearing red accessories with monochrome prints.

Favourite Show: It is hard to choose between the bright and intricate detailing of Bora Aksu and the fun and change of direction from Fyodor Golan – both shows were a great opening to the spring/summer season.

I also really loved the prints at Jean-Pierre Braganza and the utilitarian chic at Christopher Raeburn, the shirt dresses, the sleevless parka and parachute cape – plus I also spotted a very talented drawer in the crowd doing live illustrations of the runway show.

The Apartment: As well as checking out the latest collections I also went by my friend Abi’s The Apartment, a retreat from the madness of fashion week where you can grab something to eat, have your hair and make-up done, learn a few tricks on Pinterest and generally hangout with cool bloggers. Look out for a post on this season’s The Apartment in the next couple of days.

To round off Day 1 at LFW I have put together a highlight reel using HTC Zoe on my HTC One:

My Style: Black, Black, & More Black, With A Touch Of Animal Magic

ootd-black-and-white-1

Sometimes you just need to wear something simple, comfortable but an outfit that still makes you feel good, for me this can be one of two looks – jeans or a skater skirt and top, yesterday when I went for lunch with my friend Alex I opted for the girlie of the two.

As it was a mainly black look, shock horror hey I do love to wear black, I decided to pair my skirt and jumper with a cute white collar. When looking to freshen up a look, I am really enjoying teaming jumpers with cute collars, whether Peter Pan style, embroidered or like this one gold tipped – simple, easy and chic.

It may have been the first day of spring yesterday but that didn’t stop it from being freezing so I paired my look with my bargain coat from Dorothy Perkins and a bright orange leopard printed scarf that I picked up ages ago from New Look to add a touch of colour.

Finishing up my look is my animal magic jewellery, a rabbit ring and stag necklace that I was kindly sent from Wonsuponatime, I am seriously in love with this cute ring and so appropriate with Easter just around the corner, as well as my animal-effect bangles that I picked up from H&M.

I find jewellery is a great way to accessory a look without costing the earth, while still making a statement, and my latest obsession after arm candy has to be rings. I have gone years without wearing any rings, after my hands swelled up while in New York and my rings were destroyed  but I am embracing them again and love really dainty but statement pieces and this rabbit is one of my current favs.

What’s your tip for jazzing up a simple look?

My Style: Day Three At London Fashion Week

OOTD-LFW-Day3-gap

Day three and the sun has been shining all day, granted still not that warm, but I don’t mind shivering when it is bright. Once again, another look, another shade of pink – so we’ve had a bright pink jumper, bright pink accessories and today I went for my new Gap blazer which I picked up in the sale last weekend.

Considering a blazer is a wardrobe staple I only seem to have two very ill-fitted ones so I thought it was time to invest for fashion week as you can dress an outfit up or down with one and lots of my friends recommended Gap. When I saw this bright pink beauty I couldn’t resist, even more so when it was £20 off – serious bargain that I am sure to wear all-year round.

As the trim of the blazer is a dark grey I thought it would make the bright pink stand out even more if the rest of my outfit was charcoal grey and black – and I think this is one of my favourite looks for a while.

As you know if you follow me on Twitter I love jeans but like most people I struggle to find styles that fit and look flattering and a number of my followers answered my pleas for help and suggested Uniqlo, a shop I love for t-shirts but have never tried for denim, but I have seriously been missing out.

These dark grey beauties are from the super soft, super stretchy skinny range, and I can assure you they are exactly that, they are just so flattering and for a long time putting skinny jeans on didn’t make me feel instantly fat. Plus they are super long, I have them turned up as wearing with boots today, but in the summer I will actually be able to wear jeans with flats and not feel like I am showing half my leg off!!!

Finishing off my look is my trusty Osprey London bag, this is so perfect for fashion week – classic colour, classic design and fits everything from my iPad, tickets, make-up, chocolate, phone, diary, notepad, pens, etc, etc, in, as well as my Ice-Watch, which sadly has the wrong date on it, my Topshop ankle boots that I am literally wearing to death, and a new statement necklace from New Look.
