My Nails: A Fun, Colourful, And Random Manicure

beauty, nails, opi

I must have over a hundred different coloured nail varnishes and I love getting my nails done and I am very lucky that most press days have amazing nail artists on hand to make my nails look pretty.

Last week I was invited to a breakfast preview of Olivia Rubin‘s spring/summer 2013 collection, more coming on that next week, and I course couldn’t resist getting my nails beautified by the very talented Mercedez aka Miss Merx Mani’s who you might remember did my amazing ball of wool nails early in the year.

Nails_olivia_rubin_dressInspired by Olivia Rubin’s ‘Fence’ Gate Dress, Mercedes painted my nails with similar shades starting with OPI’s ‘Do You Lilac It?’ as the base coat and then she drew on random shapes – from stripes to wavy lines, French tips, dots and splodges in OPI’s ‘Red My Fortune Cookie’.

I wouldn’t have thought about putting purple and red together but this combination really works and stands out and over the past week I have had some lovely comments about my nails. I love that each nail has a different pattern, Mercedes said it reminded her of sailing signal flags and I quite agree.

What I love about this manicure other than its randomness, is that each design isn’t difficult to achieve at home, granted a steady hand is needed but with a nail art pen I am definitely going to try this myself.

What do you think of my random manicure?

My Style: I Brightened Up My Weekend With Olivia Rubin For Dorothy Perkins

This weekend I embraced the sun, granted for most of the weekend it was a little glum but when the sun did shine I was totally dressed for the occasion in my Olivia Rubin for Dorothy Perkins printed maxi dress and peplum top.

On Saturday, the weather wasn’t amazing I am in slight denial I want it to be summer so I can wear all my pretty clothes, so I decided to do just that with this pink and white floral printed maxi dress, which is one of my favourite pieces from the Olivia Rubin for Dorothy Perkins collection.

My beautiful and uber-comfortable maxi was teamed with my adorable Kate Spade New York Armadillo, it’s first outing since I was gifted it at the Kate Spade event I went to a few weeks ago and I am totally in love with it. Finishing off my look is a Barbie pink cardigan from New Look and a stack full of bracelets from Thomas Sabo, Ernest Jones, as well as two I made and my white gold bangle that my Mum got me for my 21st birthday that I just re-discovered in my jewellery box.

Yesterday, I went for a more casual vibe for hanging out with my friends in the garden, while trying to enjoy the rare glimpses of sun. This pink sleeveless bird print top is fast becoming one of my go-to tops, I love the shape, the vibrant print, as well as the exposed back zip, which I stupidly forgot to snap!!!

With the unpredictable weather this top is perfect teamed with jeans, the ones I am wearing here I have only had a few weeks but they are my new favs and they are from Warehouse, they are a little higher in the waist than other high-street jeans and so comfortable – they make me feel and look a little slimming, which is always a good thing.

Because my top is so bright I decided to go neon with my jewellery with my pink, orange and yellow bracelets, teamed with my Thomas Sabo pink bracelet but this time with my new dragonfly charm that I got for my birthday, and finishing up with my neon pink F*** Me I’m Famous Ice-Watch.

Finishing off my look are my Chanel sunglasses, I do love these beauties mainly for the cool chain-arm, but they are a little loose so I am afraid that I am going to damage them, and comfort rules with this outfit so only my bright pink Keds would do.

Saturday’s Look: Olivia Rubin for Dorothy Perkins black printed maxi, now only £25Kate Spade New York Armadillo (c/o); pink cardigan from New Look; black Thomas Sabo bracelet with Barbie poodle charm; pink Thomas Sabo bracelet with butterfly charm; White gold bangle; shell bracelet; red beaded bracelet; and silver wrap bracelet from Ernest Jones (c/o); brown buckle flats from F&F at Tesco; and Versace sunglasses.

Sunday’s Look: Olivia Rubin for Dorothy Perkins sleeveless bird print peplum top, now only £17; Thomas Sabo dragonfly charm; Ice-Watch (c/o); Warehouse ultra skinny jeans; Chanel sunglasses (c/o); and pink Keds (c/o).

Which day do you prefer? Also do let me know if you have bought any of the Olivia Rubin for Dorothy Perkins collection, if not check it out online as a lot of the line seems to be in the sale.

My Nails: I Have Been Branded By Olivia Rubin

What I love about press day season, other than seeing what goodies I want to buy the following season, has to be the pampering whether it is a hand massage or even a facial, which I have to admit I have never had time to stop for, but one thing I love to have done is my nails.

The latest craze is for brands to commission nail artists to design complimentary manicures to go with the collections, and on Wednesday I had the pleasure of being branded at Olivia Rubin’s press day with a ball of wool, which features in her gorgeous autumn/winter 2012 collection **more to come on that next week**.

I got to choose my colours, I went for OPI’s Pink Friday as my base colour, because come on I am a Barbie girl it would be wrong not to add pink into the mix, and for my ball of wool I decided on the most gorgeous electric blue shade OPI’s Dating A Royal.

Thanks to Mercedez aka Miss Merx Mani’s who did an amazing job on the wool, this is all hand painted, no stencil here, which has surprised a few people this week, and best bit is Mercedez added the most amazing fast-drying top coat from Seche that left my baby pink nails chip-free.

So what do you think – will balls of wool nail art catch on? I hope so, I love mine!!!

Out Now: My Olivia Rubin For Dorothy Perkins Shopping List

Last week I was lucky enough to have a preview of the new designer collaboration coming to Dorothy Perkins by one of my favourite designers Olivia Rubin, and I loved everything about it, and I am hoping everyone is as excited as me to see it in stores from today.

If like me you are having trouble deciding on what pieces to buy I have picked out my favourites, which is a lot, as I am having trouble narrowing down my must buys:

Dresses:

The dresses were always going to be amazing and I love the mix of prints, jersey, and chiffon and these three I think I can’t live without, especially the grey bird peplum dress in the middle I am thinking that would be perfect for a summer wedding.

(L-R) Pink bird wrap dress, £45; Grey bird peplum dress, £49; and Black wrap dress, £35.

Tops:

Peplums, wraps, cut-outs, hanky hems, and of course vibrant colours and prints, the separates from this collection are very strong. I think my favourite has to be the asymmetric grey bird print chiffon overlay, how adorable it that, and great value I think at £28.

(L-R) Grey bird asymmetric top, £28; Pink bird peplum top, £30; and Bird stripe t-shirt, £25.

Maxis:

It wouldn’t be an Olivia Rubin collection without maxi dresses and these are two beauties, they both have details that I can’t decide between the two. Is it wrong that I am selling it to myself on the fact that the jersey one can be a day dress and the bird print would work for a summer party/wedding???

(L-R) Pink bird maxi dress, £45; and Black jersey maxi dress, £45.

Bikinis:

Coming in June are Olivia’s first swimwear pieces and they are insane, I love the two different styles as well as the fab gold shell print, and there is always a swimsuit that I think I will need to track down.

Will you be buying any of Olivia’s first collection for Dorothy Perkins? Let me know I think I need help narrowing down my choices otherwise my bank balance might not be too healthy!!!
