Shopping: The Outnet’s 5th Birthday Collection

Can you believe that The Outnet is only 5 years old? For me it seems to have been around for as long as its higher-end, exclusive big sister Net-a-Porter, and it really has come a long way since its days as just a clearance outlet. Yeah it has always been the place to go for a designer bargain but the past 18-months or so I have really found it a go-to site when shopping for any occasion, not only for discounted gear but also for its Iris & Ink in-house collection of luxury staples and its accessories are always so incredible, my last few designer handbags have come from The Outnet.

So to celebrate its 5th Birthday, The Outnet has teamed up with 17 amazing designers including Alexander McQueen, Balmain, Chloé and J.W.Anderson to produce a collection featuring their re-issued, best-loved pieces and I basically want everything!!!

A few weeks ago I got to check out the collection, basically imagined spending away my wedding fund, and styled up a few of my favourite pieces, which is hard when the line also includes Oscar de la Renta, Jason Wu, Nicholas Kirkwood and Haizhen Wang and starts at just £130.

Of course I instantly fell in love with the accessories – the Squeeze It’ patent-leather Alexander McQueen clutch is to-die-for, I love it so much and the £357 price-tag isn’t bag for a classic piece like this, and pair it with those Nicholas Kirkwood panelled suede heels for £318 and you have some killer accessories to jazz up any look. I also loved the classic dark-brown Chloé wedges, a bargain at £225, I think these will be an instant sell-out, as will the statement Oscar de la Renta resin and gold-tone floral necklace, £265.The-Outnet-5th-birthday-2

If I had to pick a look from the collection that I would love to wear I think it would have to be the Haizhen Wang black leather jacket, the shape at the back is gorgeous, teamed with the romantic floral-print silk-jacquard Jason Wu dress, paired with those stunning Nicholas Kirkwood heels, and the bold red Oscar de la Renta necklace. I would love to throw in the McQueen clutch but that might just be a little too much!!!

There were also a couple of great looks to wear to a summer wedding for an elegant affair why not try Roland Mouret’s sky-blue O’Hara dress, the colour and fit of this dress is perfection, I really love the folded neck detailing and exposed zip down the back. While a cool, hip wedding you could go for this fun printed silk and moiré pencil Preen by Thornton Bregazzi skirt, team with a white blouse or a crisp white T-shirt and bright accessories.

There are just so many options with this fabulous limited edition collection, but trust me don’t wait around long I think most of these pieces will be instant sell-outs.

Which The Outnet 5th Birthday collection pieces do you have your eye on?

BFI London Film Festival: Saorise Ronan In Kooples

BFI_London_Saorise_RonanWho: Saorise Ronan

Where: At the BFI London Film Festival Awards during the 57th BFI London Film Festival at Banqueting House

Wearing: A tailored deep purple The Kooples suit from the autumn/winter 2013 collection, teamed with a sheer lace top in the same hue, and Nicholas Kirkwood open-toe heels

Verdict: I have mentioned my love of women in suits, whether it is in an editorial or on the red carpet, and like Julianna Margulies who looked incredible in Michael Kors earlier this month, Irish starlet Saorise Ronan is rocking this look.

I love everything from the colour to the velvet lapels to the feminine touches of the lace top and open-toe heels – this is a chic look that really works the masculine trend to perfection.

The only thing though – I am not sure if this glamorous enough for an award ceremony – but hey I still love it.

Teen Vogue Party: Hailee Steinfeld Styles Her Emporio Armani Dress With A Plaid Shirt

Who: Teen Vogue October cover star and actress Hailee Steinfeld

Where: At the 2013 Teen Vogue Young Hollywood Party in Los Angeles

Wearing: A black sleeveless Emporio Armani cocktail dress featuring a high neck, full skirt and belted waist from the Resort 2014 collection, styled with a Maje plaid shirt around her waist, and Nicholas Kirkwood heels

Verdict: Hailee Steinfeld is having a great style week on the red carpet, first was the LA premiere for her new movie ‘Romeo and Juliet’ wearing Prabal Gurung looking grown-up and elegant, and now she is working a youthful look at Teen Vogue’s Young Hollywood Party, you know the one that Lauren worked on in The Hills.

Armani-Hailee-Steinfeld-nThe black halter-style fit and flare Emporio Armani dress is nice, cute, and maybe a little boring for the magazine’s cover star, but by adding that on-trend plaid shirt tied around her waist it not only adds a punk edge to the dress but makes her standout and I love it.

I also love that Hailee matched her nails to her plaid shirt, which you can just about see here, and I really think that shirt really kicked started her whole look.

Finishing off her look was a gorgeous pair of Nicholas Kirkwood heels, that have black and white stripes on the back, smoky eyes, and loose curls.

I think she looks gorgeous and this look is so appropriate for a Teen Vogue party.

Do you like how Hailee styled her cocktail dress with a plaid shirt?

LFW SS14: Day 4 & 5 – Nicholas Kirkwood, Samsung & Channelling Geek Chic

LFW-Day-5-My-Style-6Monday’s at London Fashion Week are jam-packed, the tickets that everyone dreams of from Burberry to Antoni Berardi, Roksanda Ilincic and Christopher Kane, sadly it seems that my invites must have got lost in the post!!!

Not to worry though as I joined the masses and followed the amazing coverage via my Twitter feed and in Burberry’s case watching the live-stream, which I still can’t believe was filmed using the new iPhone. But I did fall in love with Burberry’s gorgeous coral pink shade, the petal confetti ending and seeing Sienna Miller squished next to Harry Styles from One Direction on the front row.

Tuesday, the final day of LFW, was a little busier with a couple of shows at the Somerset House and a trip over to the new Topshop venue in Regents Park. In the downtown I soaked in the brilliance of this season’s The Apartment, which is bigger and better than ever and has been a brilliant place to hang out between shows, catch up with friends, discover new brands to adore – from Dower & Hall and Birchbox, and generally be pampered by the professionals, and fed by the likes of Pizza Express and Green & Black’s.

Starting off Day 5 was a presentation by Nicholas Kirkwood and Samsung, the footwear designer has created some cool accessories for the new Samsung Note using his signature black and white chevron. More than a presentation, this was more like a conversation with the footwear designer, and we got to hear about his inspirations, why shoes, and also plans for the future – he would love to design his own Samsung mobile in the future.

I also got to try out the new Samsung Gear – a watch that can show you your emails, text messages, call someone, and can also take sneaky pictures.

LFW-SamsungLFW-SS14-MariaGrachvogel-20Next up was my final show at Somerset House, Maria Grachvogel, who showcased her signature print swirled jumpsuits and floaty dresses in a watercolour palette of blue and pink, mixed in with the neutral tones of clay and putty. Oh and it was only when I was leaving that I realised that sitting on the front row was actress Emma Thompson and I didn’t even bother to take a picture.

I then hot-footed it over to Topshop’s new venue, thank you press bus for being such a life-saver this season, to see Brazilian designer Lucas Nascimento’s spring/summer 2014 collection inspired by Brigitte Bardot in Jean Luc Goddard’s ‘Le Mepris’ wearing just a bath towel.

Styled purposefully as being caught in a state of undressing the models wore their slip dresses with the straps falling of their shoulders, and there was a dress that looked like a bath towel wrapped around the body. For me the stand out pieces had to be the structural jackets, the yellow and orange colour palette as well as the tiered dresses.

Rounding off a fabulous London Fashion Week, probably my favourite fashion week in a number of years, I went for a dress-down look – inspired by a last day of school wearing my Donna Ida jeans and a comfortable ASOS jumper with stars on the elbows. Finishing off my look my fav Dorothy red Topshop shoes and tie-dye socks – all about embracing the geeky girl that I am!!!

My Style: Mabel, Ida Donna Ida (c/o) // Red shoes, Topshop // Grey jumper with star patches, ASOS // Glasses, Swag & Stare (c/o) // Coat, Dorothy Perkins // Grey socks, Topshop // Bracelets – Claire’s, Dower & Hall, Kate Spade (c/o) // Smartphone, HTC One Red (c/o) //

To round-up my spring/summer 2014 diary I have put together my last highlight reel using HTC Zoe on my HTC One – with all my best bits from Day 4 and 5 at LFW:

Stay tuned for more LFW coverage – I have reviews from all the shows I attended as well as a spotlight on the trends heading our way for spring/summer.
