Beauty Bytes: A Visit To Cheeky In East London

Hand’s up who likes to be pampered? Get your nails done, have your hair fixed, eat some tasty food, sip amazing drinks, and treat yourself to a beauty product or two? Well, that is what Cheeky in East London is all about – an affordable place to go for instant beauty gratification!

Last week the guys at Logitech treated me to a makeover while looking at their new collection of iPad cases, I am lusting over their fabric keyboard cases, and it was nice to mix technology with beauty and it was great to experience Cheeky I have been wanting to go since it opened last month.

The concept is so cool, you can get your nails done, including nail art, your can have your hair refreshed, you can eat some amazing healthy food and some sweet treats, and you can have everything from a cup of tea to a fancy coffee and even champagne. It is like the perfect place to hang out with friends – whether for a special occasion, or to get ready for a first day, a work party, or just because really – as having my nails done instantly perks me up.

There were lots of options for the nails, there are over 20 different Cheeky shades to choose from, plus you get to take the colour home and my cherry red varnish has become my favourite colour. You can then add nail art from dotty patterns, different coloured tips, and because it is Christmas there were also festive options including presents, Santa and Rudolph, who I couldn’t resist getting – he looks pretty cute against the dark red.

For my hair I went for curls, but you can also go for poker straight, beach waves, sixties beehives, plaits, and even messy buns – basically anything goes. It was nice to swish about for the rest of the day with my curly hair.

As it is Cowshed’s naughty sister, Cheeky also has a range of gorgeously packaged products for the hair, body and make-up so you can continuing the pampering at home. I tried the hand cream and it was amazing, that I think I need to make my way through the whole collection.

If you are looking for a relaxing spot for a makeover you have to check out Cheeky – I can’t wait to go again and try something different.

Have you tried out Cheeky?

Beauty Bytes: 5 Beauty Products I’m Loving Right Now

Beauty for me is generally been about finding a great foundation for my poor skin, buying the latest fab colour for my nails, collecting gorgeous perfume bottles that happen to smell nice and generally lots and lots of indulgences to make my relaxing baths even better. Over the past few months I have started branching out a little with my beauty regime, instead of just using my trusted products I have found some new favourites that I thought I would share.

Up in my first Beauty Bytes is a random mix, but all products that I am currently loving right now, from a foundation that is just dreamy on the skin to a bath bomb to relax all your worries away and an intriguing in-shower bath moisturiser.

beauty-bytes-bourjoisBourjois - Healthy Mix Foundation

I was introduced to this Bourjois ‘healthy glow’ foundation during fashion week when I had a make-over at the Handpicked Media suite. Generally when I have my make-up done professionally I never seem to be able to perfect the same coverage, however this foundation enthused with fruit therapy gives my skin a fresh and natural look, while still providing great coverage.

I find most foundations to be too heavy, I am obsessed with BB creams, but this foundation gave my skin a healthy glow about it and I have found it perfect to wear on hot days as it is really light on the skin.

Clinique – A Different Nail Enamel in Party Red

I have probably every colour over the rainbow and then some when it comes to nail varnishes, and every brand is nearly represented in my collection, so when I heard that Clinique had made its first foray into nail varnishes I just had to try. What makes Clinique’s line of varnishes even better is that they are safe to use for sensitive skins, which if like me you some times get irritated by varnishes when itching your eyes then this is the product for you.

I went for Party Red, as like hot pink shades you can never have too many versions of red. As well as being impressed with the glossy red shade, the coverage of this varnish is amazing it not only glides onto the nail with ease but it only needed one coat, which is perfect for when you don’t have much time.

I can’t wait to try some of the other shades.

beauty-bytes-1-niveaNivea - In-Shower Body Moisturiser

When this product arrived in the post I have to be honest I was more than a little intrigued, I even asked myself would it really save any time, well the answer is actually yes. So I have a set shower routine, shampoo hair, wash face, and while my conditioner is working I use my shower gel, and then rinse, well this in-shower moisturiser is generally works like a conditioner for the body and is super quick to apply as my skin was wet it glided on with ease.

Post-shower I could really tell that my skin had been moisturised, especially on my legs that were super dry thanks to the almond oil. If you sometimes forget or don’t have time to moisturise I think you will like this product as it becomes part of your shower routine.

Lush - Think Pink Bath Ballistic

One of my favourite ways to relax is with a nice bath, whether with bath salts, bubbles, or a bath bomb. I go through phases of what I put in my bath and lately I am obsessed with Lush’s bath bombs in-particular this adorable Pink Bath Ballistic, which not only smells amazing with its vanilla-fruity vibe but I love that it turned my bath water a Barbie pink colour. If you are after a relaxing bath I would definitely recommend this little beauty to ease your worries away.

John Frieda - Full Repair Deep Infusion

Generally my hair is in good condition, but when its been in the sun or been exposed to too much air-conditioning it does dry up at the ends. I started using this John Frieda deep infusion after being impressed with the shampoo and conditioner from the Full Repair range and I have found that it keeps my ends from looking untidy between hair appointments.

Enriched with Inca Inchi Oil rich in omega-3, I found that the serum absorbs quickly into the dry ends without being greasy, and was super easy to apply on my wet hair much like a leave-in conditioner. As well as making my hair feel smoother and shinier, the serum also seemed to protect my hair from damage caused by my hairdryer and straighteners, and stopped my hair from frizzing in humid conditions. So perfect for this changeable weather we’ve been having.

Have you tried any of these products? Let me know in the comments field below what you thought of them – and what products you are loving right now.

Beauty: Dior Summer Mix Video

Beauty campaigns are having a bit of a revival for me, whether it is the Dior fragrance campaign with Daphne Groeneveld looking stunning with a cat on her head, the OPI dancing horses, or Chanel’s nail cabaret, beauty ads are standing out for being more than just a pretty face.

The latest beauty campaign making me smile has to be this the Dior Summer Mix, not only has the French fashion house put together a gorgeous, summery collection filled with hot pinks and oranges, but they created a clever summery video that looks like it is set in Barbie’s beach house, with tiny pool loungers and nail varnish sized chairs.

This is a fun video with the Dior blush Cheek Crème rolling down the stairs, the Dior Sunnies, Capeline, Créoles, Tye & Dye nail varnishes taking in some sun by the pool, and retro polarioid snaps throughout. While summer hasn’t really got off to a sunny start, this collection could really help on the dull, some what wintry days, I can’t wait to try the ‘Tie & Dye’ nail varnish shade.

As well as loving the video and the summer shades, I adore that the print campaign featuring Julia Hafstrom with its retro 50s ladylike touch.

Are you a fan of Dior’s latest beauty campaign?

Beauty: Chanel’s Movie Tribute

The red carpet and the iconic French cinema is the latest source of inspiration for Chanel’s up-coming beauty collection, Avant-Première.

This collection just oozes old-Hollywood glamour with its intense red, bold plum and divine pink shades, and I love that the line is all about matching your lips and nails with a corresponding hue.

But what caught my attention the most, other than the fabulous shades, has to be the amazing names of the Rouge Coco Shine lipsticks and Le Vernis nail colours that perfectly encapsulate the silver-screen inspiration behind the collection.

While the nail lacquers seem to be named after the red carpet with Starlet, Paparazzi, Cinema and Provocation shades, the lipsticks are more about the backdrop of the movie with names such as Interlude, Suspense, Fiction, Synopsis and Dialogue.

Collection Avant-Premiere De Chanel is available from April 5 and I can’t wait to try out the Provocation and Starlet nail varnishes!!!

Beauty: The WAH Nails Experience

wah nails, poison ivy, nails, nail art, beauty, topshop

As you may have gathered if you follow me on Twitter is that my Mum was down for the weekend, hence the lack of blog posts, and we generally did lots of fun, touristy things in London like going to art galleries, enjoying afternoon tea, a spot of shopping, you know Mother/daughter fun, and I also took my Mum to get her first real nail art. We tried it up North, but a flick and a diamante crystal doesn’t quite count, I wanted her to have a full-on crazy experience so I took her to WAH Nails in Topshop.

Granted I think going from a flick to full-on craziness at WAH Nails might have been a little too much, watching my Mum’s face as she looked at the giant menu of options which included having nails decorated with bananas, ‘pows’, skulls, and happy faces, was hilarious – she was a little overwhelmed to say the least.

But the beauty of nail art and especially somewhere like WAH Nails is that they basically let you have what you want, whether that is just one statement nail, a couple of different designs mixed together, or full-on magic – you choose your colours and the design.

I was toying with the idea of getting the pop art ‘pow’ design on every nail, or the fade away leopard print something bold and a little OTT, but I decided to go for something more subtle, more me, which meant pink, bright pink, and a statement print, and in WAH Nails standards might seem a little boring – but I just love that it was still fun, bright, but not straight off the menu!!!

Choosing my varnish was hard, they literally have a wall full, and lines and lines of pink shades, but I finally opted for OPIs ‘Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot’ a gorgeous neon pink that would work perfectly with black ‘Poison Ivy’ nail art. I could have had the design on all my nails, and I saw some that had and it looked amazing, but I just wanted my thumbs and a vine of poison ivy on my ring fingers and I think it came out beautifully.

wahnails-leaf wahnails-me-4wahnails-mum-ssMy Mum was a little terrified by the concept of a print, smiley faces, peace signs and basically everything on the menu, well that was until I suggest branding her nails with her initials. We both like things to be symmetrical and well with her initials being SS it was kind of perfect to have them drawn on her thumbs and I think the deal was sealed when she found a deep purple shade for the base, which in some lights looks black. I just love how the ‘SS’ design really stands out against the bold colour.

Golden Globes 2013: Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta

Who: Zooey Deschanel

Where: At the Golden Globe Awards 2013, held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California

Wearing: A strapless red Oscar de la Renta gown featuring a sweetheart neckline and voluminous skirt from the pre-fall 2013 collection, teamed with a matching pearl necklace and bracelet, and a film-inspired manicure

Verdict: I always find Zooey adorable on the red carpet and tonight’s Golden Globes look is no different. I love the 1950’s vibe of this gorgeous gown as well as the vibrant colour, but what makes this look has to be the addition of the pearls – I do love a bit of Granny chic!!!

I also love Zooey’s nails – featuring a movie camera and film strip – she always seems to bring her personality to the red carpet.

This is a great look – do you agree?zooey-deschanel-nails

My Nails: A Fun, Colourful, And Random Manicure

beauty, nails, opi

I must have over a hundred different coloured nail varnishes and I love getting my nails done and I am very lucky that most press days have amazing nail artists on hand to make my nails look pretty.

Last week I was invited to a breakfast preview of Olivia Rubin‘s spring/summer 2013 collection, more coming on that next week, and I course couldn’t resist getting my nails beautified by the very talented Mercedez aka Miss Merx Mani’s who you might remember did my amazing ball of wool nails early in the year.

Nails_olivia_rubin_dressInspired by Olivia Rubin’s ‘Fence’ Gate Dress, Mercedes painted my nails with similar shades starting with OPI’s ‘Do You Lilac It?’ as the base coat and then she drew on random shapes – from stripes to wavy lines, French tips, dots and splodges in OPI’s ‘Red My Fortune Cookie’.

I wouldn’t have thought about putting purple and red together but this combination really works and stands out and over the past week I have had some lovely comments about my nails. I love that each nail has a different pattern, Mercedes said it reminded her of sailing signal flags and I quite agree.

What I love about this manicure other than its randomness, is that each design isn’t difficult to achieve at home, granted a steady hand is needed but with a nail art pen I am definitely going to try this myself.

What do you think of my random manicure?
