My Style: Monochrome With A Pop Of Colour

I do love wearing black and white, where it is as block colours or a vibrant print, I just think monochrome is chic and elegant and perfect to wear to meetings followed by cocktails and dinner with friends. I wore this look a few weeks ago to an Echo Falls event where I interviewed Holly Fulton, I just thought it was the perfect summer evening look, monochrome with a pop of colour with my fab Rebecca Minkoff bag.

The outfit started with this fab skirt, which no one could believe was Primark. I love a full skirt and this pleated beauty with a sexy split is a great day-to-evening piece and I think it went perfectly with this black River Island shirt with its sheer paneling.

The final touches were my accessories, the black sandals from Clarks are so comfortable that they are great for meeting hopping as well as socialising, and they are fast becoming my favourite black shoe because they literally go with anything. I just adore block heels and I love the suede and patent mixed with the retro styling of the ankle strap, oh and did I mention they are uber-comfy as they have cushion layer.

I was going to pair my look with a black handbag, but because the sun was shining, this yellow beauty caught my eye in my room and I just had to go with a pop of colour. I really feel it enhances the floral print on the skirt, as well as make the monochrome more vibrant.

Are you a fan of adding a pop of colour to your monochrome looks?

Monochrome Magic: Topshop Unique Resort Collection

Monochrome is by far one of my favourite trends and I am so pleased that season, after season it comes back in one form or another. For resort 2014, Topshop Unique has given the black and white colour palette a refresh with hints of mint and textured materials such as raffia and bonded satin and I love the modern feel of the clean lines and graphic prints.

The capsule line is only 15-pieces but wow I want them all – especially this graphic checkerboard raffia two piece above – wow, wow, wow – how cool is that, probably a bit too cool for me to pull off but I love it all the same.

The collection also has softer pieces with gorgeous Bamboo printed silk dresses, mint green tees and tapered trousers. Plus each piece has been made in Britain – seriously what’s not to love!!!

My Style: Rocking Monochrome & Some Cute Flats

I don’t think you can go into a high street store without seeing monochrome looks – it is everywhere for spring/summer and it is a trend that is going to continue into autumn, which is why when I saw this Jaeger dress in the sale I had to snap it up.

This beauty, I can see now is going to be my throw-on dress, it is causal and comfortable with its oversized silhouette, yet it can be smartened up with a belt to nip in the waist, and can easily make the seasonal change from summer to autumn with the addition of tights and boots.

As the dress can be a little plain, I find that what can make or break this look is how you accessories it, so with that in mind I decided to pair with my new ASOS flats, which are super cute with their double bows. In the pictures they look like there are white flats, but actually they are made from a silver hologram material, which shimmers in the sun and looks great with my pink pedicure that is still going strong.

I shot these piccies in the garden, which has been my office this summer, and I thought it would be nice to add a spot of colour to my black and white look with some of my new flowers that have bloomed, plus see if you can spot my very own baby panda…OK kitty…but she is in a tree and is very cute!!!

Cannes Film Festival: Monochrome Starlets – Emma Watson vs Jennifer Lawrence

Monochrome isn’t just a huge trend on the high street at the moment but also on the red carpet. Just last week we saw Diane Kruger making her black and white statement and now is the turn of Hollywood starlets Emma Watson and Jennifer Lawrence at Cannes.

Generally known for its ‘Go Big or Go Home’ attitude, Cannes has been a little subdue this year, there have been a few big moments thanks to Fan Bingbing and Sonam Kapoor, but on the whole it has been more of an elegant, sophisticated affair, and Emma and Jennifer are certainly leading the way.

Not only is it a battle of the franchise starlets – Hermione vs Katniss, but also between the French fashion houses Chanel and Dior, and I have to be honest I think it is too tight to call which actress/designer wins this round.

I love that Emma has returned to her Chanel roots, and this is a gorgeous off-white silk crepon dress with black embroidered sequins on the bodice. What makes this dress work is that it’s sophisticated without ageing her, thanks to the sparkly bodice, spaghetti straps and the open back – it really does give this dress a sexy and youthful vibe.

On the other hand Jennifer in Cannes promoting the next edition of The Hunger Games is continuing her love affair with Dior in this monochrome look to the Jimmy P. (Psychotherapy Of A Plains Indian) premiere. Wearing a reworked look from the autumn/winter 2013 collection, I love how this strapless dress is simple  with a dramatic twist with the black asymmetric skirt and it works perfectly with her perspex Charlotte Olympia clutch and Chopard jewellery.

While I might be on the fence with who gets my vote for best dressed, I have to give hair and make-up to Jennifer as I am just loving her tousled do and red lips.

So who wins the battle of the monochrome for you – Emma or Jennifer?
