Who: Lupita Nyong’o
Where: At the Vanity Fair Oscar Party 2014 in West Hollywood, California
Wearing: A seafoam green Miu Miu belted silk gown with green beaded fringe along the neckline, teamed with matching peep-toe heels and the same Fred Leighton headband from the main event, oh and carrying her Oscar statue
Verdict: I loved the pale blue Prada gown and it was perfect for Lupita to float up the stairs to collect her Best Supporting Actress Oscar, but this cute column gown was the fun party frock that the Vanity Fair party needs and kind of reminds me of the change Jennifer Lawrence made last year in its silhouette.
I love the green beading on the bodice, it really does make this dress shine, and I love that she kept that cute Fred Leighton headband on – it was such a hit on the Oscars red carpet.
Which look do you prefer – her blue Prada gown or this Miu Miu beauty?
I am a little obsessed with pastels, so I am a little pleased that it is set to be one of spring’s hottest trends and the styling of this cover and accompanying shoot is perfection. I have a few issues with that pose and positioning of her hand, but I can let that all go for this incredible coat.
What I also love about this cover, other than the fab coat, have I said that already, is that it is nice to see a covered-up cover for February – as yes it is still bloody cold and January is just too early to be handling summery covers.
Inside the editorial is just as gorgeous as the cover, Allison gets all ladylike modelling must-have spring pieces from Burberry, Michael Kors and Isabel Marant – I didn’t think I wanted a lilac coat until I saw this one below!!!
Are you a fan of this two-tone Miu Miu beauty?
I am a big fan of Katy Perry, more so now that I know that she counts Minnie Mouse as one of her style icons, and I was excited that she was to grace the September issue of ELLE UK – but then I saw the newsstand cover and I was a little underwhelmed, mainly because of the flamingo pose.
Don’t get me wrong, Katy looks amazing in a checked Dolce & Gabbana peplum top with matching shorts, and I understand that those Christian Louboutin boots are hot – but come on that pose really is more of an editorial shot than a cover pose for me.
I prefer the simplicity of the subscriber cover, which really shows off Katy’s beauty and her incredible eyes. Granted this cover does remind me a little of Emma Stone’s Vogue UK cover from last year – but I think Katy’s makes more of an impact as it is all about her face.
Shot by Mariano Vivanco, the accompanying editorial is just as strong with Katy wearing looks from Prada, Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton and Alexander Wang’s autumn/winter 2013 collections.
The issue hits newsstands on Wednesday, July 31 and I can’t wait for my subscriber copy to drop through the letterbox.
Which cover do you prefer – the subscribers or the newsstand?
