If Don Draper was handling French fashion label Sonia Rykiel’s advertising campaign this is probably what he would have come up with – a striking, bold and very arty ad to mark new creative director Geraldo da Conceição’s first collection for the fashion house. Featuring British model Sam Rollinson, the autumn/winter 2013 campaign was shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, and pays homage to French advertising posters from the 1950s and ’60s. I just love the styling, that sky blue coat is amazing, and I adore the graphic cut-out shapes – the keyhole, lips and a face silhouette, which is very Picasso,
Last week I brought you Jennifer Lopez doing her best Million Dollar Baby impression with her very unexpected sporty cover for V Magazine, well it seems April is J-Lo’s month as she is also fronting American Vogue’s Shape issue with a more traditional glamorous look. When I saw this cover, I was a little disappointed that it wasn’t the other Jennifer – Lawrence that is promoting The Hunger Games as I am obsessed with the books, but I have to admit I don’t dislike it, however I am not wowed by it. Jennifer Lopez looks stunning in what looks like a Bottega
Trust Givenchy to bring a Gothic vibe to the beach, for the spring/summer 2012 campaign, the brand has enlisted its favourite supermodel Gisele to front its dark and stormy advert – it is gorgeous and captures the collection perfectly. Riccardo Tisci described the atmosphere as ‘the expression of a love story between a surfer and a mermaid’ and I think photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott have captured the mood perfectly. At looking at this campaign I have to admit I am asking myself if for SS12 are Givenchy really doing black surfboards? As I could totally get on board with that!!!
Wonder if Mario Testino is a little bit peeved that he wasn’t booked to shoot the latest Versace campaign? Since 2004, Mario Testino has also been behind the amazing photography, well it seems 2011 autumn/winter campaign is the start of a new era for the Italian fashion house as for the first time ever they have worked with photographic duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. I loved the edgy autumn/winter 2010 campaign shot in black and white and focusing on the blonde, well it seems that brunette is the new Versace girl!!! The campaign features Saskia de Brauw wearing the
For spring it seems that Gucci’s Creative Director, Frida Gianni has played with bold colours and sleek shapes to produce a gorgeous-yet-glam ad campaign. Once again shot by Gucci regulars Mert Alas & Marcus Piggot, the campaign features models Karmen Pedaru, Joan Smalls, Hailey Clauson. Nikola Jovanovic and Gen Huismans. As SS11 campaigns go, this one is the one that has excited me the most, I think it is because it is bright and bold, but these images are great but trust me they look even better in print. Check them out in February issues. My favourite image has to
