Who: Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev

Where: At the Entertainment Weekly Screen Actors Guild Awards pre-party held at the Chateau Marmont in California at the weekend

Wearing: A strapless colourful floral-print silk-chiffon Matthew Williamson gown featuring an internal boned bodice, pleated skirt, and crystal embellishments on the side waist panels from the pre-spring 2013 collection, teamed with an Elie Saab box clutch

Verdict: I love that Nina Dobrev is never afraid to make a statement on the red carpet and this is a bold floral print and she is wearing it well. I love the flattering cut to the maxi dress with the corset bodice and the flowing pleated skirt.

What makes this look for me is that Nina plays down the bold print with her flawless-barley-there make-up and no jewellery – she is letting the dress shine. I just love how effortless her red carpet looks are.

Shop Her Style: Love the look and want to snap up Nina’s dress? Well get out your credit card as this beauty is currently on Net-a-Porter for £1,695.

Africa Cats: Catherine Is The Peplum Princess

Catherine4 Africa Cats: Catherine Is The Peplum Princess %tag

Who: Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge

Where: At the UK Royal Premiere of African Cats at the BFI Southbank in London, England

Wearing: A grey knee-length Matthew Williamson dress from the pre-fall 2012 collection with three-quarter sleeves, a peplum waist, and turquoise and gold embellishments to the cuffs and neckline. Completing her look, Catherine wore simple matching heels and a clutch.

Verdict: With the fact that it has been raining for what seems like weeks now in London I wasn’t expecting a floor-length gown from Catherine, which is a shame as I love to see her glammed up, but this is one gorgeous dress.

I love everything from the colour to the waist peplum, but what shines for me on this dress has to be the modified neckline to include matching embellishments to go with the cuffs, totally makes this dress Royal worthy. The turquoise jewels against the grey is just a great combination, make the pastel grey look fresh rather than dull, which can sometimes happen with grey on the red carpet.

This is a great look from Catherine for me, do you like it?

Verdict: I love the colour, I love the sparkles, and I adore the high ballerina bun. I still find it weird that being a fashion designer she never chooses to showcase her own designs, surely this would have been the perfect occasion for that. But failing all that I am so glad she went for British designer Matthew Williamson, as this is one amazing dress and looks absolutely stunning on her.

Who: Coco Rocha

Wearing: A floor-skimming blush Bibhu Mohapatra overlay gown with Faye lace shoulder harness and waist detail from the spring 2011 collection

Verdict: I don’t think Coco could look bad in anything, but having a gorgeous friend like Bibhu must help a lot in choosing the most perfect red carpet gown and this is a beauty. The blush colour really works with Coco’s new red hair, but for me this outfit is all about that striking shoulder harness it completely makes the dress for me.

Cover Loving: Britney Spears Sparkles For Glamour

britneyglamour Cover Loving: Britney Spears Sparkles For Glamour %tag

Glamour magazine doesn’t really feature on my cover loving section, that isn’t because I am snobby, but I have to admit the magazine hasn’t really wowed me in the cover stakes for a while, that is until this gorgeous Britney Spears cover.

The pop princess looks amazing in a Matthew Williamson dress on the October issue of the British magazine. I don’t know whether touring really agrees with Britney or she is just finally in a very good place, but she looks hot in this long-sleeve metallic blue ombre dress adorned with feathers and sequins.

The rest of the Glamour shoot is just as sexy, in one shot Britney works a very short, lacy black dress with cut-out knee-high boots, and in another the magazine does an ode to lads mag with a pic of her in very slinky lingerie and just a fur coat.

If you haven’t already picked up the magazine I don’t want to spoil the interview but Britney talks about her best memories of the UK, hoping to see Prince William at one of her shows, as well as insight into her fashion musts, which include Flying Monkey jeans and Steve Madden shoes.

#LFW: Excitement As The Schedule Is Announced

So last week the British Fashion Council announced the official London Fashion Week schedule for SS11 for September. I have been mulling over the schedule and I am liking what I see. The big highlight has to be Giles Deacon confirming his return to London, marking a return following two seasons in Paris – he appears on the fourth day and it will definitely be the hot ticket of the week.

Giles Deacon commented on his return to London: “Giles is a quintessential London label and I am extremely happy to be showing in London after two successful seasons in Paris”.

Other things I was happy to see on the schedule were: Swedish fashion house Acne are debuting at LFW for the first time with two salon presentations, which is nice to see, especially after the successful opening of their London flagship this week on Dover Street. Other newcomers to the schedule include one of my favourite emerging designers Holly Fulton who is going a catwalk show with the help of NEWGEN sponsored by Topshop.

It is also great to see that Burberry Prorsum, Matthew Williamson, Pringle of Scotland, Antonio Berardi and Jonathan Saunders are returning for a third consecutive season. As well as British talent in Paul Smith, Jasper Conran and Betty Jackson to world-class emerging designer businesses such as Christopher Kane, Erdem, Marios Schwab and Richard Nicoll. It is going to be a great season.

But one of the most interesting things to see on the schedule is that of a Alexander McQueen Memorial set for Monday, September 20, at 11am. No further details have been announced yet, but I am sure it will be packed full of fashion editors and fashionistas paying their respects, I just hope that they also stream it live for all his fans as well.

I am already making my wish-list of tickets: Erdem, Sass & Bide, PPQ, DAKS, adidas by Stella McCartney, Mulberry, Vivienne Westwood Red Label, Kinder Aggugini, David Koma and Holly Fulton back-to-back, Mark Fast, Peter Pilotto, Jaeger, Christopher Kane, many more I am sure – and of course Burberry and Giles *well a girl can dream*.

At least this season I will be dropping down to more shows for work, my registration is already submitted, I also can’t wait for the digital schedule to be announced as watching from the comfort of my sofa was also a nice luxury.

Let me know what you are interested to see?

New Gig: Vickie B For Range Rover

Pic: Land Rover/Range Rover

One-fifth of Spice Girls-wife-global brand-mother-solo singer-style icon-fashion designer-Spice Girl reborn-acclaimed fashion designer-and now Creative Design Executive for Range Rover. Kind of impressive timeline for Victoria Beckham, and the most interesting if not bizarre roles that she has taken on.

Announced at the car’s 40th birthday celebrations with Vogue, at The Orangery, Kensington Palace, Vickie B looked stunning in a nude dress from her own AW10 collection, teamed with Brian Atwood nude heels.
Her new role will see her collaborating with the design team on a future special edition Range Rover design, starting with the special edition Range Rover Evoque, which will be unveiled next year at the Paris Car Show, and will be on sale from next Summer.

“Victoria Beckham is a talented British fashion designer and is extremely knowledgeable about great design and trends,” said Gerry McGovern.  “Victoria understands luxury products – she is a Range Rover fan and has been a Range Rover owner for many years. Her fashion business is now in its third year and her designs are loved by critics and bought by many of the most stylish women in the world. I believe this appointment adds a new dimension to my design team as we continue to design products to appeal to a wider audience.”

The swanky bash was attended by over 300 people, including some of Vickie B’s favourite designers, Julien MacDonald, Matthew Williamson and Roland Mouret; as well as model Erin O’Connor, Zara Phillips, Alex James, and Vogue Editor Alexandra Shulman who apparently was responsible for introducing Vicky B to the car manufacturer.

“This is a very exciting collaboration. The classic British heritage of Range Rover and the effortless style, quality and beauty is something I truly admire and also what I hope to achieve with my own brand.  I am honoured to take on this role and be part of the creative team.”

Victoria Beckham

Is it too early to say that I want to be on the waiting list? I can’t wait to see what Vickie B comes up with. I have a Freelander at the moment and love Land Rover so a Victoria Beckham designed car would be a stylist upgrade!!

Weekend Review: Grace Kelly, Princesses And Elephants

Busy weekend with cultural stops across London and a lot of Elephant stalking. As my mum was in town it was the perfect excuse to take in a few exhibition. First up was the Grace Kelly: Style Icon exhibit at the V&A, followed by the Enchanted Palace aka Kensington Palace, and in between tales of the Elephant Parade, cream tea at Selfridges and a cute buy from Uniqlo.

Grace Kelly: A Style Icon

gracekelly Weekend Review: Grace Kelly, Princesses And Elephants %tag

This exhibition was always going to need to do a lot to impress me – as I loved Grace Kelly in movies High Society and Rear Window. To me she is one of the true style icons of the great Hollywood era. I have to admit I was a little disappointed, I loved what was there – but for me there just wasn’t enough.

I liked the fact that they broke her wardrobe into three sections, The Actress, The Bride and The Princess, which made for a great time line of her style. The Actress focuses on her work from the ’50s, The Bride centers from when she met Prince Rainier of Monaco until their marriage in 1965, and The Princess showcases her exquisite taste thereafter. But I left feeling like I wanted more.

What I did like was the fact that it wasn’t just her love of Dior, Chanel and Givenchy that were on show, there were also outfits designed by her costume designers off High Society, Helen Rose and Rear Window, Edith Head.

When I expressed on Twitter my disappointment I was greeted by very strong views, of course many people loved this collection of her outfits as it is nice to see inside such an icons wardrobe, and don’t get me wrong I will recommend everyone to see it as her dresses are amazing, but even when you enjoy something you can still be disappointed.

It was nice to gain an insight into what clothes she liked, her love for draped, flowing chiffon gowns were evident throughout the three main areas. There was also her famous Hermes ‘Kelly’ bag from 1955, and one of my favourite sections were her sunglasses and brooches.

If you love Grace Kelly, clothes, and old Hollywood glamour then I would say check it out, the exhibition runs at London’s Victoria & Albert until September 26. I would also suggest that you book in advance as it was packed. Check out more information on the V&A website.

Enchanted Palace

Enchanted Palace Kensington 500x750 Weekend Review: Grace Kelly, Princesses And Elephants %tag

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this temporary exhibition at Kensington Palace as it has basically been put together while they undertake a £12m renovation of the palace. To be honest I was very pleasantly surprised they’ve created a wonderful installation using the best in fashion, design and performance and challenged visitors to find the seven princesses who one lived inside its walls.

Kensington Palace2 Weekend Review: Grace Kelly, Princesses And Elephants %tag

I had such fun, even as an adult it is good to use your imagination once in a while and this exhibit certainly does that. There were so many highlights, like Princess Margaret’s dress (above), to the gorgeous Vivienne Westwood creation to represent the story of Princess Charlotte (below).

What I loved was the interpretation of the palace’s hidden stories, from the rebellious princess who ran away, to the sad queens who lost babies and the young heir who escaped her overprotective mother.

For some this experience was too much I think some just remember that it was Diana’s home for so long, and they expected that this would be a tribute to her. If that’s what you’re expecting please don’t go as you’ll be disappointed – this exhibition was full of drama, cultural poet, interaction and some gorgeous designs. Full marks to the Royal Palaces for commissioning such a beautifully imaginative concept.

This dress worn by Diana, Princess of Wales is displayed in the finale room of the tour, the Room of Dancing Princesses. A gorgeous end to such a sublime experience. The Enchanted Palace runs until August 20, find out more at the Kensington Palace website.

Elephant Parade

Pic: Ziggy by Matthew Williams (in Selfridges)

This is kind of one of my obsessions at the moment, The Elephant Parade. There are 250+ life sized baby elephants painted by established and emerging talent from the art and design world, a few fashion designers and celebrities, and they are all dotted across London until late June.

So when I say I saw 19 in a day I feel like this was an achievement!! It was fun finding them, photographing them, not quite understand them, getting frustrated with people sitting on them, perching on them for a cigarette and even doing the annoying I need to be in every picture I take. To display all 19 on this blog would be OTT even for me, so here are my favs and I will posted all of them on my flickr *as soon as I figure that out*.

If you spy any of them roaming the streets of London do me a favour and tweet me a picture @fashionnbarbie. I’ll be very grateful.

Find out more about the Elephant Parade at their website, and if you find one you love and need in your life they’re auction them all off for charity or you can buy mini replicates at their shop.

Finale

To top off the day Mum and I had a very nice cream tea in Selfridges Yellow Cafe, anyone done with shopping on Oxford Street such check out this gem of a cafe on LG. It does the most superb cakes, and a divine cream tea – the fruit scone were perfection.

The day wasn’t really about shopping, but I couldn’t resist this Runaway tee, £12.99, from the Agyness and Emily Deyn collection for Uniqlo – perfect to team with leggings.
