Fashion Week Diary: LFW SS15 – Day 2

My style reiss coords 5 Fashion Week Diary: LFW SS15 – Day 2 %tagDay 2 can sometimes be the hardest day to get going during fashion week, I think it is because the first day is always a little bit of a shock to your system. But today has been fun, I’ve seen some great presentations, I’ve enjoyed celeb spotting at House of Holland, Rita Ora has a new under-cut if you care, and Holly Fulton showcased a really strong monochrome collection. As well as all that fashion, I hung out at The Apartment, had my hair done, again, this time I went for a fishtail braid, and I raided their wardrobe and picked put some fab new accessories mainly this beautiful Kurt Geiger handbag, which is just the most perfect shade of red.

LFW SS15 Orla Kiely 2 Fashion Week Diary: LFW SS15 – Day 2 %tagMy first show of the day was a cutie, Orla Kiely, which is always well attended as no one doesn’t like adorable dresses, quirky accessories and an entertaining approach to showing off a collection. In previous seasons we’ve had a Mad Men-style typing pool and a safari backdrop, and for SS15 we got an English country garden, where the models planted the blooms and artists painted flowers on clear screens. As always I have left wanting to be an Orla Kiely girl, to skip around in the summer sun wearing my gorgeous floral smock dress in chunky platform heels.

From the English garden I went to the beach for Markus Lupfer’s latest collection, complete with a camper van and cocktail bar. The collection was fun and wearable and every cool girl in the house, sadly not me, was probably already making a mental note of the items they needed to make SS15 magically. I really loved the jacquards, the holographic metallic and the casual silhouettes, it was just cool, and it was another step forward into making his line a great ready-to-wear label that isn’t all about statement sequinned jumpers.

Next up lunch, another burger, sorry but I can’t resist GBK, more chat with friends, and then a mad dash to Holly Fulton as I go completely got carried away with just relaxing. I’m so glad I did haul my arse over to Somerset House as Holly was on form and put together a stunning monochrome-heavy collection, which was an ode to “sun-workship, folk art and free expression” and it was beautiful.

Holly’s coats are always a highlight each season and this black and white graphic print really stood out. I also loved that she contrasted the monochrome with gorgeous hues of lemon and a turquoise blue. There were also some incredible sunglasses from her Cutler and Gross collaboration, as well as some stunningly embellished evening gowns.

I had a little bit of a break between Holly Fulton and the House of Holland show so I set about shooting today’s look – this gorgeous monochrome co-ords from Reiss that I got at The Apartment’s pre-LFW event. I wouldn’t normally have gone for this look, a little too scared of rocking an all-over print, but Reiss’ fabulous personal stylist convinced me to try it on and I absolutely loved it and I hope you guys do as well.

As the Reiss trousers and top combination looks is a little bold, well for me anyhow, in fashion week terms I probably looked very tame, I went for a statement look with a fishtail braid with a lot of volume from the Blow Ltd team, I think it worked well but I did feel like it was a little wild at the back. This look also needed great accessories, of course the Kurt Geiger bag, the red really pops, and as I was running around all day I went for my comfortable Clarks, a block heel does make everything much better, and the finishing touch were my Swag and Stare red framed glasses that are still one of my favourite pairs of glasses.

Then I was on to my last show of the day, House of Holland, which is always a blast, the music, the starry-cool front row and the fun collection. He always brings the best soundtrack and this season it was more heavier than usual with his colourful collection striding down the catwalk to Purple Haze. Inspired by groupies, this was a print-heavy collection, lots of flower power going on, and more embellishment detailing than I had seen before from Henry. My favourite piece had to be this blue glittery polka dot print parka, which I am sure you will see in a number of festival edits come spring.

OK so how hot is Jennifer Lopez looking at the moment, I am seriously obsessed with how good her body is, don’t get me wrong she has always looked amazing but right now she is insanely hot.

Her instagram has become a daily pleasure for me, I love that she shares behind-the-scenes shots of her tour, gets her fans to vote on her outfits and even post no make-up selfies of herself. I have to be honest but move over Beyonce, J-Lo is taking your reign as my Instagram queen!!!

One of Jennifer’s Instagram’s that caught my eye this week was this stunning piccie of the singer, showing off her great pins and fabulous hair, and the cutest jumper ever that I instantly recognised as Markus Lupfer, basically the only designer you want to buy if you are after a statement sweater.

The cotton pink sequinned Markus Lupfer ‘Love Myself’ sweater is perfection and I have found it on FarFetch so you too can look like J-Lo, I just wish buying it also meant her glamsquad came and styled me up as she looks flawless in this picture.

Love J-Lo’s sweater – check out 10 of my favourite Markus Lupfer sweaters right now:

You can always leave it to Markus Lupfer to bring a touch of fun to fashion week, last season it was a teenage girl’s bedroom, and for autumn/winter 2014 it is all about the local “caff”.

Inspired by the quintessential charm of England – from a builders café in Manchester to riding the Big Dipper in Blackpool and buying rock on Brighton Pier – this is a collection that mixes the tongue-in-cheek with more grown-up ready-to-wear pieces.

SS14 was fun and girlie, AW14 is moodier with a contemporary nod to Mod fashions with uniform-like silhouettes, pinafore-inspired dresses, boxy jackets and striking prints featuring florals, polka dots and leopard print.

If like me you are a lover of his statement sequinned knits they are still in the collection but sadly only the Cafe one seem to appear at the presentation. According to the show notes there will also be jumpers featuring slogans including ‘Kiss me quick’, ‘Golly Gosh’, ‘One sandwich short of a picnic’, ‘Bingo’ and ‘Full english’.

Granted it didn’t have the same vibe as last season, but hey this time around we did get chips, but I do like this more grown-up version of Markus Lupfer.

LFW SS14: Markus Lupfer – Teenage Dream

LFW SS14 Markus Lupfer 3 LFW SS14: Markus Lupfer – Teenage Dream %tag

I love a presentation and Markus Lupfer knows how to make his showcase one of the must-see shows of London Fashion Week as he always makes it fun and playful. For spring/summer 2014, the designer took us back to the early 90’s and gathered us all in the chicest teenage girls bedroom ever, complete with hunks plastered on the wall and a burger phone.

With a nostalgic look back to the early 90’s MTV generation, the collection was filled with floral patchwork trousers, skirts and matching bombers, alongside white jacquard dresses featuring a jumbo abstract floral print.

There was a youthful feel to the collection, with the teenage references including a Jason Priestley t-shirt and slogan tees branded with ‘Loser’ ‘Lame’ and ‘Whatever’ inspired by Mean Girls, while still offering a grown-up vibe with the kaleidoscopic floral patchwork pieces.

What was surprising to see was the fact that there weren’t any sequinned jumpers, there were still sequins on the t-shirts and on the embellished flats – but it seems like Lupfer is looking more to his grown-up ready-to-wear pieces which is nice to see.

My favourite pieces, other than the Jason Priestley t-shirt which is top of my SS14 wishlist, has to be the floral bomber jacket and the fun kitty jumper.

Basically I loved it all – roll on summer 2014!!!

Every season London Fashion Week seems to keep on getting bigger and better, and this September the British Fashion Council are opening their own pop-up shop celebrating some of the hottest talents of LFW.

If the incredible shopping wasn’t enough, the pop-up space has been created by set designer Robert Storey, and the boutique has a cool logo designed by the talented Sir Peter Blake – I really am a sucker for typography!!!
