Met Gala 2013: The Stars Who Embraced ‘Punk – Chaos To Couture’

Safe to say that a lot of celebrities and designers struggled with the punk fashion theme at this year’s Met Gala, some embraced the studs, fishnets, the safety pins, spikes and wrapped tape look, most went with heavier eye make-up than usual, some really took the theme to town, Madonna I am talking about you, while others just ignored it completely, Gwyneth I am pointing this in your direction, and some even made their hair the focus, oh hello Anne Hathaway’s bleached blonde hair-do!!!

Usually I do individual posts for the Met Gala much like my Oscar coverage, but this year I thought I would just do a round-up of my best dressed looks, and focus more on the stars that actually made punk high-fashion.

As you would expect with it being punk, there was a lot of black, not as much leather as I thought, but lots and lots of black. My favourite black look, and one of my favourites of the night, had to be Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev in Monique Lhuillier, a look featuring a leather and lace halter corseted bodice, black lace leggings and a tulle skirt, which was made perfectly punk with her incredible side-swept hair - seriously she so nailed it!!!

Coming in at a close second to Nina in the all-black category had to be Cara Delevingne in Burberry, as well as doing a great trench coat it seems that the British heritage brand also has a naughty side with this gorgeous and sexy spiked, plunging v-neck gown, which worked perfectly with her smokey dark eyes and sleek hair and her strong eye brows.

There were a lot of other black punk looks that caught my eye - Emma Watson in a revealing wrapped tape Prabal Gurung gown, Jennifer Lawrence in a polished Dior look, and Diane Kruger in Chanel, which was more grunge than punk but I did like the pink dip-dyed touch to her ponytail and spiked clutch. Then there were the blonde crop bombshells – Miley Cyrus and Anne Hathaway – who both looked incredible.

Sporting a slinky black mesh Marc Jacobs gown that Kate Moss has worn, I really liked Miley’s commitment to the theme and I think I am the only one who actually loved her OTT spiked hair. In contrast, Anne’s new blonde hair-do was more sleek and worked perfectly with her very revealing, gorgeously embellished vintage Valentino gown from 1992, which totally makes up for her Oscar look. I love that both totally went for it and I think it paid off.

But there was one look that completely blew me away and that had to be Sarah Jessica Parker wearing an incredible Philip Treacy mowhawk, a dark and moody paint-splatted printed Giles gown and incredible Christian Louboutin boots – now that is how you do punk fashion!!!

Do you have a best dressed from this year’s Met Gala?

Cover Loving: Diane Kruger For S Moda

SModa april Diane Kruger 1 Cover Loving: Diane Kruger For S Moda %tag

My girl crush Diane Kruger has been on a role lately, numerous magazine covers, great reviews for her latest flick and more importantly a stylish promo tour, and then this week she was announced as the new face of the up-coming Chanel skincare advertising campaign – so when I saw this incredible cover and editorial from the April issue of Spanish magazine, S Moda, I just had to share – OMG – wow!!!

SModa april Diane Kruger 8 Cover Loving: Diane Kruger For S Moda %tagWearing a stripy sequinned Marc Jacobs jumpsuit, this is one gorgeous cover shot by David Roemer – I love everything from the pose, the position of her legs is a little awkward but I like that, to the incredible monochrome jumpsuit styled perfectly by Christopher Campbell, and then I zoned in on her face and I was completely blown away – I love the dramatic eye make-up and her wild hair. Simply beautiful.

The rest of the editorial is just as strong, so strong that I think these might be up there with some of my favourite shots of Diane, and it is all down to the styling – very edgy and so, so sexy. I love the sporty Theyskens’ Theory dress, the monochrome magic of the Lanvin ensemble where she is wearing a body and a skirt, which I am sure is a little reminiscent to the one that Jennifer Lawrence wore, and the embellished trench is divine, but my favourite has to be the all-black Salvatore Ferragamo look teamed with over-the-knee boots and chunky necklaces.

What do you think of Diane’s latest magazine shoot? Do you like the styling?

Also let me know below in the comments if you are a fan of her becoming a face for Chanel Skincare.

A Closer Look: Louis Vuitton – Spring/Summer 2013

SS13 Louis Vuitton 17 A Closer Look: Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2013 %tag

I am in the midst of press day season at the moment, and one of my early highlights so far has to be checking out the Louis Vuitton spring/summer 2013 collection in their London showroom. I always love seeing catwalk collections up-close, especially when they are such a big accessories brand like Louis Vuitton as walking through the collection I got to mentally pick out all the handbags I would love to add to my collection.

It seems that spring/summer 2013 is going to be all about the tiny handbag, a step towards elegance and a nod to the retro, which I love, but I am also scared as it means I have to give up on my divine oversized handbags that seem to be able to hold everything.

The Louis Vuitton ready-to-wear explores symmetry and mirrors and has a touch of the 60s about it, I love the chess-board effect, whether it was in black or the custard yellow mixed with white, the clothes really stand out.

I left the press day with an enormous mental wish-list – from the oversized sunglasses to the orange envelope handbag to the super cute sequinned flamingo t-shirt, oh and a Louis Vuitton scarf, or two!!!

What are you loving from the spring/summer 2013 Louis Vuitton collection?

Cover Loving: Rose Byrne Looks Gorgeous For Flare

flareaug Cover Loving: Rose Byrne Looks Gorgeous For Flare %tag

I have said it several times before but Flare is a fab magazine and they really do produce gorgeous covers, and the August issue with the stunning Rose Byrne is another example of a great high-fashion cover.

Shot by Max Abadian, Rose is a picture of elegance wearing a stunning red lace Marchesa dress from the autumn/winter 2012, which if you are thinking it looks familiar it is probably because it is the same one that Jennifer Lawrence wore on her Hunger Games promo tour, and it is quite similar to the one that Blake Lively wore last year at CinemaCon.

The accompanying editorial spread is just as stunning, Rose looks incredible in a variety of autumn looks from labels such as Christopher Kane, Marc Jacobs, and Balenciaga, styled by Elizabeth Cabral. I am also loving her make-up, her Rimmel Kate Moss Lipstick in shade 01 on the cover is perfection.FlareRose2 Cover Loving: Rose Byrne Looks Gorgeous For Flare %tag

In the interview, Rose discusses her off-duty style, red carpet preparation, as well as talking about that gorgeous Elie Saab jumpsuit that she wore to the 2012 SAG Awards, which I think kind of started a red carpet trend on Elie Saab jumpsuits, and her sparkly Vivienne Westwood Oscar dress.

On her Elie Saab jumpsuit at the 2012 SAG Awards: “When I wore that jumpsuit, Penny [her stylist] and I fully discussed that you can’t please everybody, that it will probably be loved by Vogue and hated by People. It’s just clothes, it should be fun. It’s been good, to take risks knowing that’s the reality of it.”

On her Vivienne Westwood dress at the 2012 Academy Awards:
“[Vivienne Westwood] worked so well with us altering it, it ended up totally different from the original dress.”

On preparing for red carpet: “You’ve got to get your stamina ready. Particularly for an awards ceremony, that’s a different league. But I have my group around me, and it’s fun. I think for the red carpet in general it’s important to keep it youthful. A lot of people can look very dressed up and old and severe. That’s sort of my worst fear, is erring on that side.”

On her pre-red carpet ritual: “Try to get a good night’s sleep, don’t go out at all the night before. In the morning, get some exercise, for mental health. Then it’s just fun.”

On her off-duty style: “I go through phases. But I mostly dress in high street clothing, like Urban Outfitters. Every day, really.” FlareRose1 Cover Loving: Rose Byrne Looks Gorgeous For Flare %tag

The Hunger Games: Elizabeth Banks In Marc Jacobs

ElizabethMarcJacobs The Hunger Games: Elizabeth Banks In Marc Jacobs %tag

Who: Elizabeth Banks

Where: At The Hunger Games Paris premiere on the latest stop of the movie’s promotional tour

Wearing: A pink sequinned Marc Jacobs dress with oversized floral accents from the autumn/winter 2012 collection, teamed with a black clutch and heels

Verdict: Once again Elizabeth sparkled for me, her use of bright colours has worked perfectly and I think this is her best look yet on this tour. I think this dress is quite daring, I don’t think everyone could work this fitted sequinned number, especially with its floral accents to the neckline but she looks stunning.

As well as another shade of the rainbow, Elizabeth also brought a new hair style to the red carpet, I love her chignon really does show off this dresses sparkles to perfection.

SS12 Campaign: Louis Vuitton Candy Perfection

SS12Louis2 SS12 Campaign: Louis Vuitton Candy Perfection %tag

Last season Louis Vuitton was all about ladylike dominatrixes accessorised with puppies, and for spring/summer 2012, up-and-coming models Daria Strokous and Kati Nescher enjoy some sundaes in a gorgeous pink and white ice cream parlor.

The campaign once again shot by Steven Meisel is a beautiful sorbet-coloured scene featuring some of Louis Vuitton’s standout pieces, including the romantic broderie anglaise dresses, ladylike shifts embellished with studs and flowers, and stunning white lace collars.

I really do think that this campaign brings together the tone, texture and prettiness of the collection really well, and it is divine – I can’t wait for the summer!!!

giftguidebags Gift Guide: For Bag Lovers %tag

For my second gift guide I have decided to make it all about bags, basically because I adore handbags and these nine beauties are my favourite picks at the moment. Whether you are buying yourself a festive treat or you need to hint big time at your loved ones – these bags will make perfect gifts.

1. Rebecca Minkoff, Circle Quilt Casanova, $395, Rebeccaminkoff.com – I am a huge RM fan and I am lucky enough to have two of her bags, and on my regular scout of her site I saw this chic-yet-edgy quilted leather bag. Worried about postage? Well don’t as RM offers free delivery on orders over $300.

2. Osprey London, The Zambezi, £295, Ospreylondon.com – A great British brand and I love this jaguar-print cross body bag, for me this bag is all about that gorgeous vintage-inspired shape.

3. Tamzin Lillywhite, Boreas Back Pack£420 - a new brand to me, but with beauties like this I can soon imagine that Tamzin is going to become one of my favourite designers; also back packs are having a bit of a fashion revival so this sleek one is perfection.

4. Lollipops, Lascar Doobie, £69, lollipopsparis.co.uk – this is a cute bag, seriously what’s not to love about this wooly reindeer bucket-style bag?

5. Lulu Guinness Red Swarovski Crystallized Lips Clutch, £650, luluguinness.com – wouldn’t be a Christmas wish list without some festive LG lips now would it!!! I adore this iconic clutch – each year I keep my fingers cross that one appears under the Christmas tree.

6. Marc Jacobs, Lindy, £620, Harrods.com - the Lindy family of bags is new for autumn/winter 2011 and I just love this quilted shoulder bag, with its bow and stud detailing to the front, also this beauty would work during the day as well as night.

7. Mulberry Alexa Camera Bag, £650, Johnlewis.com – this bag has a 70s vibe about it and as with all Mulberry bags – think of this as an investment!!

8. Karen Millen, Crystal Clutch, £295, Selfridges – this seasonal sparkle is exclusive to Selfridges and the crystal-encrusted detailing and wristlet makes it a perfect party bag.

9. Bag Snob for DKNY, The Clutch, £175, Net-a-Porter.com – got to support blogger collaborations, especially when they are this good from Bag Snob founders Tina Craig and Kelly Cook who have designed an essential clutch. I just love this sequined leather number – a perfect evening choice.
