My Style: A Flirty Asos Midi Skirt

my style asos skirt 3 My Style: A Flirty Asos Midi Skirt %tag

Lately I have been trying to embrace the midi skirt, being more ladylike, and trying, and mostly failing to sometimes leave the jeans in my wardrobe for a little rest, and I thought afternoon tea at the Laura Ashley Elstree Hotel was the perfect occasion to show of this incredible cobalt blue Asos skirt in woven crêpe.

I bought this beauty for fashion week and my regularly size was too big, which basically made me jump for joy, so it feels good showing off this gorgeous skirt in a smaller size, and actually thinking I look slim for a change. I think this has a lot to do with the skirt, it is super flattering, beautifully cut, and the woven crêpe material really does make it look and feel more expensive than its £30 price tag. It is a steal of a price and this skirt will be an autumn/winter hero for me as I think it will work just as well with tights and a chunkier knit.

As I wanted to show of the high-waisted fit I wore it with my lightweight grey knit, also from Asos, I promise I didn’t intentionally raid my wardrobe for a head-to-toe Asos look – it just happened. I love this jumper, as not only is it super comfortable and soft to the touch but it also has the most adorable lace hearts on the elbows. I do love little quirky touches, and in my bride-to-be craziness I just thought the heart made my look bridal, I know it isn’t but I have weddings on my mind!!!

Maybe it is the longer length to the skirt, or the flattering high-waist, or even the bold colour, but I just find myself actually liking not only the way I look, but also feeling how happy I am in these pictures – if that makes sense. Don’t get me wrong I don’t hate on myself, well not all the time, but I am not the most comfortable in front of camera, I know crazy that I am a fashion blogger, but maybe, just maybe I am getting a little more confident about featuring my style, only taken me nearly five years!

So what do you think about this midi skirt?

So is anyone tiring of designer collaborations yet? I think I am a little over the lower-end brands teaming up with designers and hiking up their prices just for the name, though I do love them when they expose emerging designers to the masses, and I also can’t help adding them to my wardrobe when they are as reasonably priced as Uniqlo collaborations always seem to be. So to answer my own question, I am still a little on the fence.

I am a huge fan of Lulu Guinness, I have many of her handbags, purses, and card holders, and that is mainly because she brings such humour and fun to her designs, when you add that to Uniqlo’s incredible UT collection of T-shirts and sweatshirts you know that you are on to a winner.

This is her third hook up with the brand **I think** , but I am going to go out on a limb and say this is her first with sweatshirts, and if it isn’t I totally missed that and I have four of her T-shirts from the previous collections. There is always a kitsch vibe to Lulu Guinness’ collections but I love that this isn’t all about the lips, don’t worry they are still there, but covers everything from 50s Americana to painted nails, lipstick and even a cute updated doll face that I totally need.

The heavy focus on beauty kind of made me think that Lulu could be wanting to give Paul & Joe a run for their money for the cutest beauty packaging, ooh wouldn’t that just be so amazing. Sorry I have totally gone off topic – back to the shopping!!!

It is hard to say which is my favourite, at £19.90 a piece that are all pretty good value for money, but I do love that blue sweater with the hands wrapped around it, as well as the Lulu meets Miami car, and the wine coloured sleeves of the doll face fluttering eyes just looks so cosy, I think that might need to be my travelling to New York sweater!!!

My Style: Sunny Days Call For Superga Tennis Shoes

My style superga gstar 3 My Style: Sunny Days Call For Superga Tennis Shoes %tag

I do love spring, the promise of gorgeous blooms, the expectation of sunshine, the hope of striping off those winter layers we’ve been living in. Well this week I planned to wear my new animal print Superga tennis shoes with a denim skirt and bare legs, however the weather totally tricked me with its bright blue skies and sunshine that was absolutely freezing if you stood still for too long, so I decided that a pair of skinny jeans would be the best idea.

I still did brave it without a coat, instead I paired my laid-back look with a three-quarter sleeve crop jacket that I picked up from New Look last year in the sale. This beauty can be teamed with nearly anything – as a cover up for a dress on a night out to being paired with a flirty skater skirt and even as the perfect jacket to wear with jeans.

I might have been a little disappointed not to get the denim skirt out but these G-Star Raw GS01 jeans are so comfortable for skinny jeans. Not only is the dark untreated look of the denim perfection, I do love jeans that make me look slimmer, I also love the fit with the twisted seams and the gathering at the hem. It takes a lot for me to stray far from Donna Ida’s high-waisted jeans but these really do feel great on.

Finishing up my casual look is the ‘Wavy Gravy’ look from blow dry bar Hershesons who were at a press day I attended. They transformed my poker straight locks in less than 30 minutes into this classic tousled beach meets rock’n’roll look and I absolutely love it. Much like Blow, who I have reviewed on my blog, Hershesons has a set menu of amazing styles from the ‘Carlam’ grungy plait to the sleek ‘Smooth Wave’ and ‘The Swank’ billed as the most perfect undone up-do. I can’t wait to make my way through the menu!!!

How would you style these fab animal printed Superga sneakers?

Festive Cheer: Lulu Guinness Christmas Tree At Browns Hotel

lulu by the tree Festive Cheer: Lulu Guinness Christmas Tree At Browns Hotel %tag

Yesterday I was up early to preview the Browns Hotel Christmas tree designed by Lulu Guinness in London. It is no secret that I am a huge fan of the British accessory designer’s handbags, I love her quirky take on fashion, and it was so much fun to see her festive and glittery Christmas tree decorated with her gorgeous lip coin purses and topped with a red perspex lip clutch.

Working with the Browns Hotel in-house florist, Lulu didn’t just design the Christmas tree but also the gorgeous floral arrangements, which were dotted all over the hotel with her luxurious and fun lip clutches, and to finish off her display Lulu also brought her giant lip light – oh how I wish she could come and decorate my house!!!

Christmas doesn’t just stop there for the designer, as the brand is hosting Lulu’s 12 Days of Christmas with a little help from her friends. Monday was 20% off, today you could win a bracelet, and tomorrow is…well you will just have to check out the site and my Instagram as I am helping to show off the fabulous treat.

Do you love Lulu’s Christmas tree?

#DayInTheEyeOf: Taking My Lulu Guinness Eye Purse To LFW

Lulu Guinness LFW 2 #DayInTheEyeOf: Taking My Lulu Guinness Eye Purse To LFW %tag

If you follow me on Twitter and Instagram you might have noticed my slight obsession with Lulu Guinness during London Fashion Week and the hashtag #DayInTheEyeOf – a cool project sharing my photo diary of fashion week along with fab bloggers Coco’s Tea Party, What Olivia Did, and a host of fashion editors and celebs.

Basically during the five days of LFW, my gorgeous hazel eye coin purse came with me to all my shows, sat close by while I had my make-up done, was a hero at holding my money, was generally my pal throughout the whole event, and made a great addition to my style posts!!!

To launch the campaign, the guys over at Lulu Guinness invited me into the studio for a fun shoot before fashion week, where I messed around with the fun eye purse and the designer’s iconic lips clutch. I really love how well they came out, and so it seems did Lulu herself as the campaign and my face is featured on the brand’s website **such a serious scream moment seeing this**.

I also did an interview with the brand about my love of London Fashion Week, as well as sharing the Lulu products that I am lusting over, which generally means them all!!!

Are you a fan of Lulu’s eye coin purses?

LFW SS14: Day 4 & 5 – Nicholas Kirkwood, Samsung & Channelling Geek Chic

LFW Day 5 My Style 6 LFW SS14: Day 4 & 5 Nicholas Kirkwood, Samsung & Channelling Geek Chic %tagMonday’s at London Fashion Week are jam-packed, the tickets that everyone dreams of from Burberry to Antoni Berardi, Roksanda Ilincic and Christopher Kane, sadly it seems that my invites must have got lost in the post!!!

Not to worry though as I joined the masses and followed the amazing coverage via my Twitter feed and in Burberry’s case watching the live-stream, which I still can’t believe was filmed using the new iPhone. But I did fall in love with Burberry’s gorgeous coral pink shade, the petal confetti ending and seeing Sienna Miller squished next to Harry Styles from One Direction on the front row.

Tuesday, the final day of LFW, was a little busier with a couple of shows at the Somerset House and a trip over to the new Topshop venue in Regents Park. In the downtown I soaked in the brilliance of this season’s The Apartment, which is bigger and better than ever and has been a brilliant place to hang out between shows, catch up with friends, discover new brands to adore – from Dower & Hall and Birchbox, and generally be pampered by the professionals, and fed by the likes of Pizza Express and Green & Black’s.

Starting off Day 5 was a presentation by Nicholas Kirkwood and Samsung, the footwear designer has created some cool accessories for the new Samsung Note using his signature black and white chevron. More than a presentation, this was more like a conversation with the footwear designer, and we got to hear about his inspirations, why shoes, and also plans for the future – he would love to design his own Samsung mobile in the future.

I also got to try out the new Samsung Gear – a watch that can show you your emails, text messages, call someone, and can also take sneaky pictures.

Oh and it was only when I was leaving that I realised that sitting on the front row was actress Emma Thompson and I didn’t even bother to take a picture.

I then hot-footed it over to Topshop’s new venue, thank you press bus for being such a life-saver this season, to see Brazilian designer Lucas Nascimento’s spring/summer 2014 collection inspired by Brigitte Bardot in Jean Luc Goddard’s ‘Le Mepris’ wearing just a bath towel.

Styled purposefully as being caught in a state of undressing the models wore their slip dresses with the straps falling of their shoulders, and there was a dress that looked like a bath towel wrapped around the body. For me the stand out pieces had to be the structural jackets, the yellow and orange colour palette as well as the tiered dresses.

Rounding off a fabulous London Fashion Week, probably my favourite fashion week in a number of years, I went for a dress-down look – inspired by a last day of school wearing my Donna Ida jeans and a comfortable ASOS jumper with stars on the elbows. Finishing off my look my fav Dorothy red Topshop shoes and tie-dye socks – all about embracing the geeky girl that I am!!!

LFW SS14: Day 3 – Princess Gowns, Donna Ida & Lulu Guinness

LFW Day 3 highlight 2 LFW SS14: Day 3 Princess Gowns, Donna Ida & Lulu Guinness %tagSunday, the hump day of London Fashion Week, it is always the day I feel shattered after two days full of shows, but I always get up to head out to support fellow blogger Charlie May and see the gorgeous red carpet beauties from Temperley London, and one day I hope to add Mulberry, Topshop Unique and Mary Katrantzou to the list.

LFW Day 3 highlight 3 LFW SS14: Day 3 Princess Gowns, Donna Ida & Lulu Guinness %tagFirst up was Charlie May, presented at the St Martins Lane hotel it was all very civilised, no queuing up in the cold, no instead we were asked to relax in the bar area before being seated. The show itself was amazing, more to come in a separate blog post, but it was minimal and sleek with metallic touches and the shoes in collaboration with Hudson were incredible.

From there it was a trip back to The Apartment, it is so lovely having somewhere to chill between shows and this gorgeous apartment overlooking Covent Garden is out-of-this-world. Today, I chatted with the Pinterest guys, I love their fashion week hub and it was nice to be able to say thank you for including me, I also got some tips on how to improve my boards and how people are using the site, if you guys are interested I will put together a tip sheet on how to get the most out of the site.

LFW Day 3 highlight lbd 4 LFW SS14: Day 3 Princess Gowns, Donna Ida & Lulu Guinness %tag

I then did a quick photoshoot with Little Black Dress, strangely not wearing black but purple, for their website, before heading out the door to Temperley London, which was being staged in the ballroom at The Savoy. With a packed front row of Anna Kendrick, Paloma Faith, Jodi Kidd and Pixie Lott the show was fashionably 30 minutes late, which meant that the guys rushing off to Topshop even planned their escape routes, I kid you not!

LFW Day 3 highlight 1 LFW SS14: Day 3 Princess Gowns, Donna Ida & Lulu Guinness %tagThe show itself was magical, filled with incredible princess gowns made for the red carpet and dreaming of award shows – here’s hoping that Hollywood stylists see the beauty of the collection and call the pieces in. It would be nice to see some of the gowns at the up-coming Emmys.

It seems weird that my last show of the day was before 5pm but it was nice to go home eat proper food, see my boyfriend, stroke my cats and crack on with my work – I currently have over a thousand pictures to go through.

LFW Day 3 My Style 5 LFW SS14: Day 3 Princess Gowns, Donna Ida & Lulu Guinness %tag

For day 3 my outfit was all abut my new jeans from Donna Ida, my new love of animal print, and my need to find an outfit to go with this quirky kitty cat hat from Claire’s. First up lets discuss these jeans, they are Ida by Donna Ida, yep the queen of jeans has her own collection and they are amazing. Not only are my Mabel’s the best fitting skinnies I have ever had, but they have received so many complements that I feel amazing wearing them.
