Met Gala 2014: Battle Of The Pink

After the disappointed red carpet at last year’s Punk-themed Met Gala I was thrilled that this year’s event was celebrating Charles James the master courtier that really understood drama, sculpture, class, and what makes a great red carpet dress – generally something huge that makes a statement – so I am pleased that the celebs attendees really honoured his vision.

One of my favourite looks had to be Reese Witherspoon in this strapless Barbie-pink Stella McCartney gown. Everything from the colour to the sculptured take on the sweetheart neckline to the way it contoured her body and the slight train, everything about this look is perfection.

If the dress wasn’t enough to make me squeal with excited her Hollywood glamour hair and make-up sure would, the Oscar-winning star was simple flawless, I just loved the matching hot pink lips. I can’t believe that this is Reese’s first time at the Met Gala – this is a great debut look.

There were many hues of pink on the night and two came from Stella McCartney, to complement Reese’s hot pink gown, the gorgeous Kate Bosworth looked divine in this dusky pink slinky spaghetti strap dress. Her statuesque model figure really pulls off this great dress, which has sexy little cut-outs under the bust. But as much as I love the dress it is the styling of the accessories and hair-do that I adore the most – I love that she wasn’t afraid to add sparkle!!!

Combining an element of both Reese’s and Kate’s looks was Emma Stone who look modern, young and fabulous in this striking-yet-simple custom two-piece pink and magenta, colour-block Thakoon ensemble. What I love is that it isn’t a ballgown, I know that was kind of the theme of the night and this look might not quite have cut it, but for me Emma showed a contemporary look that still honoured Charles James with the flowing wrap skirt. Plus with hair like that she definitely had to be featured – love, love, love!!!

One last pink look that caught my attention was Taylor Swift who wore a custom blush pink embellished satin Oscar de la Renta gown teamed with Lorraine Schwartz jewellery. While the front of this gown was exquisite, well it was crafted by Oscar de la Renta and embroidered with gold sequins, pearl beads and rose metallic leaves, for me this gown was all about the drama in the back – check out that fabulous bow and train. Stunning in an Old Hollywood glamour kind of way.

It is hard to choose who wins the battle of the pink, but I think Reese in that stunning hot pink number just gets it. Who was your favourite girl in pink?

Oscars 2013: Stacy Keibler In Naeem Khan

Who: Stacy Keibler

Where: At the 85th Annual Academy awards held in Los Angeles

Wearing: A silver studded embellished Naeem Khan gown, featuring a high neckline, a black belt and a sheer chiffon panel to the back, teamed with Lorraine Schwartz cascading earrings and bracelet, and Giuseppe Zanotti shoes

Verdict: One of the trends on the Oscars red carpet following nudes had to be metallic, and this beautiful silver studded Naeem Khan gown was one of my favourites of the night.

What I loved had to be the decadent feel of the embellished dress, it looked heavy and exquisitely crafted, and it literally sparkled on camera. It also had a vintage feel to it not only with the design of the dress but with her retro-inspired hair-do.

George Clooney’s girlfriend has an amazing body that was showed off to the max in this dress, it worked her statuesque frame and her curves perfectly and I just adored it.

Oscars 2013: Amanda Seyfried In Alexander McQueen

Wearing: A custom made halterneck lilac organza Alexander McQueen gown with silver dragonfly embroidery and key-hole detailing

Verdict: There are a lot of nude gowns on the red carpet tonight at the Oscars and one of the most interesting for me was Amanda Seyfried’s McQueen as I really liked the interesting neckline and the silver embroidery.

Considering she is so pale this dress shouldn’t work but it does and I think it is because of the all the exquisite detailing, her flawless make-up and up-do, and her delicate Lorraine Schwartz earrings.

SAG Awards: Amanda Seyfried In Zac Posen

Who: Les Miserables actress Amanda Seyfried

Where: At the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards at The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California

Wearing: A form-fitting strapless midnight blue Zac Posen gown with a sweetheart neckline and cascading tiered layers to the skirt from the pre-fall 2013 collection, teamed with a vintage-inspired Lorraine Schwartz pendant

Verdict: I do love a mermaid silhouette, and for once it seems that hardly anyone went for this shape even Sofia Vergara opting for something different, so it was nice to see Amanda Seyfried’s gown getting all the attention.

Like with Jennifer Lawrence and Nicole Kidman midnight blue was the colour of the night, along with black, and I think a lot of people will be comparing this to Jennifer’s Dior Couture gown, and I think I have to give this fashion round to Amanda this dress just looked incredible on her.

Not only does this dress fit her perfectly, I love the drama of the sculptural tiers on the skirt, the colour against her skin, and the quirky pendant – this is one great look without looking too forced.

Do you rate Amanda’s red carpet look?
