Boux Avenue: Revamping My Lingerie Wardrobe

I regularly do a clear out of my wardrobe, rotate my winter and summer clothes, as well as donating those pieces that I just don’t like, never wear or frankly don’t fit me, one area that I don’t ever do a clear out of is my lingerie drawer and I have to be honest I am not sure why considering I wear underwear every single day.

I only considered that my lingerie wardrobe might need revamping when Boux Avenue invited me to come to their Westfield London store, check out the collections and take advantage of their free bra fitting service.

I know what you are thinking, ‘I know what bra size I am’, but really do you? I checked out my lingerie drawer and I have bras ranging from A to DD cup and I can tell you now I am never, ever going to fit back into that A cup no matter how pretty it is, but I have kept hold of it for more than 10 years. This bra has moved with me probably three or four times and I still can’t seem to part with it. I can’t be the only lingerie hoarder.

So I wasn’t totally off on my bra size, but just by wearing the right size I noticed instantly that my clothes looked better, I felt more comfortable and anything that makes you feel better can only be good for your confidence. So why is that women would prefer to wear the wrong size than get measured? I think we have all have our own reasons, embarrassment, busy schedule, unaware that most lingerie places offer the service for free, the list goes on.

Well let me tell you I have had a bra fitting with lots of different brands, some were hands on, some just looked and adjusted as I tried on, and Boux Avenue measure you while you are in your current bra before getting you to try on your favourite styles so you know for sure that it is the right size. My bra fitter told me that no matter whether you have a fitting or not, always try on the bra before you buy as dependant on the style, your size can change slightly, which is exactly what I found I am actually two sizes.

What I loved about Boux Avenue is the choice, they offer everything from basics to sexy lingerie sets, as well as a gorgeous bridal collection, sleepwear and swimwear, basically everything I would need to revamp my lingerie wardrobe. The selection was a little overwhelming but I decided to stick to key pieces I would need to kick-start my revamp.

First up I needed a nude and black T-shirt bra, I live in these and the Boux Avenue one is amazing on, then I went for a floral beauty, no lingerie drawer is complete without florals, a sexy bra set for those date nights, and I also went for a retro-inspired longline bra, I love the balconette style as well as the fact I can wear under a sheer shirt and it will look chic as hell. Plus as my honeymoon approaches I couldn’t resist picking up one of their bikinis, I can’t wait to wear it in Antigua.

I love all the pieces I picked up and can’t wait to wear them all. There is a certain satisfaction about a tidy lingerie drawer, getting rid of the clutter, and not having to worry about which bras actually fit me. An added bonus is that my drawer also smells amazing as Boux Avenue packaged up my beauties with a scent parcel, I do love the little touches.

So when was the last time you did a clear out of your lingerie wardrobe?

Are you a fan of Boux Avenue? I have selected a few of my favourite styles below:

Shopping: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley Launches Her M&S Lingerie Collection

Yesterday I was a lucky blogger, I got to be in a room with the gorgeous Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who as regularly readers will know I am slightly obsessed with and she totally didn’t disappoint. Presenting her inaugural collection of sexy and luxurious lingerie for Marks & Spencer, Rosie talked through her inspirations, mainly her love of the 20s era, drawing on her experiences as a model, as well as replicating her favourite vintage Kimono vintage from her own wardrobe.

I was hoping for colour, especially as her lingerie line is a like a floral bloom, but I wasn’t disappointed in seeing Rosie looking stunning in a £55 fitted black dress from the M&S Autograph collection. Yep, you read that right, Rosie the supermodel wore and looked stunning in a dress we could all rush out and buy. The black peplum dress is gorgeous, I love the leather panel detail to the front, and I was surprised that it was off the high street. Finishing off her look were two skinny belts in black and burgundy, which really did highlight her tiny, tiny waist, and every celebrities favourite nude heels. It was classic and professional.

Unlike other celebrity lines, which I have to be honest I am always wary about how much they actually put into the collections, hearing Rosie talk in such detail and passion about each piece that came out in the presentation was refreshing. If the collection wasn’t stunning enough on its own, I loved it even more after hearing Rosie talk about it, I loved that even though she is drop-dead gorgeous she still has a shyness about her, her hands were glued to her notes and she didn’t look up much from them, it is nice to know that public speaking even makes one of the most stunning women on the planet nervous.

The 33-piece collection really is stunning, I loved everything from the colour palette of muted tones of dusky pink and green through to the scarlet blooms, and my favourite aspects of the collection had to be the intricate detailing of the Art Deco-inspired embroidery. M&S must really be patting themselves on their back for snagging Rosie as she is a star and this collection will no-doubt do well as it is gorgeous.

Prices start at £12.50 for knickers, through to £22.50 for bras and £65 for the silk kimono. Plus this collection has been made for nearly everyone, bra sizes range from A-E cups with selected styles G cup, and the knickers range from size 8 to 20.

I think £35 for a gorgeous bra set is amazing, but I can’t wait for the gorgeous cashmere pyjamas that are due later in the year they looked divine.

The Rosie for Autograph Collection is on sale in stores and online now – will you be buying her designs?

Shopping: Tezenis Is More Than Just Lingerie

A couple of weeks ago before the madness that was London Fashion Week and the Oscars I popped along to check out Italian lingerie brand, Tezenis’ London Oxford Circus branch. I have to admit I have waited a number of times outside the Tezenis shop for friends as it is literally right next to the tube, but for some unknown reason I had never been in, and I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw.

I am not one for spending a fortune on lingerie, don’t get me wrong I have a number of nice expensive pieces, but I just love going for comfort, I generally don’t stray too far from black or nude – but seeing all these beautiful lingerie lines I was completely drawn to all the vintage-inspired lace sets with balconette bras and as Tezenis puts it ‘culotte’ knickers, I generally call them sexy granny pants!!!

For spring/summer 2012, the lingerie collection is just as amazing full of subtly powdery hues, floral prints, polka-dots, stripes, as well as some bright vibrant pieces – in a range of fabrics from lace to cotton jacquard. Trust me you will have trouble choosing pieces there is so much choice.

What did catch my eye other than the fab lingerie, which is all reasonable priced, had to be the gorgeous basics and loungewear pieces. If like me you like to work casual when at home but don’t want to do tracksuit bottoms then head on down to Tezenis as they have some  really pretty but comfortable lines. From great leggings made from the softest fabrics to very trend-let trouser styles, cute dresses, and a great selection of basic tees in every colour possible, as well as cardigans, hoodies and scarves. Then there is the knitwear, I fell in love with all the two-pieces, so cute, super soft, and a great fit. Oh and the best bit everything I picked out wasn’t over £30.

One thing to note is Tezenis’ very unique sizing, the bras work on a 1-4 system rather than the standard 34B etc., but don’t let this put you off as I was worry about my bra choice but it fitted perfectly, the guide in-store is very accurate. Also the bottoms and clothing is all done in S, M, L, which would generally put me off as things are either too small or too big, but I found M was perfect for me.

What I would suggest is give it a go, I think you might be a little surprised if you haven’t already shop there, I know I was.

Pop-Up: Dirty Pretty Things in Selfridges

This week I went along to the launch of premium lingerie label Dirty Pretty Things’s pop-up shop in Selfridges, bringing its rock-n-roll vibe of fancy pants to the department store, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

The  very cool brand designed by Dee Murren and Claire Merry is marking its third anniversary with a collaborating with their old friend jeweller Stephen Webster on a limited-edition set, exclusive to the department store. They’ve taken their best-selling ‘Eloise’ style and reworked with Webster’s ‘Envy’ pendant from his ‘Seven Deadly Sins’ collection – check it out below worn by the very intimidating but uber-gorgeous model below.

I love how the pop-up was laid out, with the brand’s signature leopard print, neon hues, and quirky prints mixed in with blossom trees and I loved everything in the collection. My favourite line had to be the Dawn bird print below, how cute does that print work against the pop of neon pink – LOVE – I am hoping my Valentine will pick me up this gorgeous babydoll.

Check out those lips – gives Angelina Jolie a run for her money!!!

The Dirty Pretty Things pop-up will be at Selfridges until March 11.
