Met Gala 2014: My Best Dressed List

So I have already shared with you the battle of the pink, well it seemed wrong being a Barbie girl not to dedicate a whole post to my favourite shade, well here is my best dressed list, which was actually hard to narrow down as I thought this year’s Met Gala honouring Charles James was exquisite.

Best Dressed #1 – Blake Lively

Has to be Blake Lively for me, as the face of Gucci Première it wasn’t a surprised that she turned to the Italian fashion house for the Met Gala, and I am thrilled that it was so old Hollywood as this is when she really is at her best. Adorned with more than one million paillettes, this custom silk chiffon blush Gucci Première gown was hands down one of my favourite of the night.

I loved how it was dramatic with the cape-like train, sexy with the plunging neckline and nipped in waist, as well as being delicate in the colour and the embellishments. Add to that her gorgeous choice of statement Lorraine Schwartz jewels, her signature side-swept waves and her arm candy for the night hubbie Ryan Reynolds, who looked pretty dapper in a Gucci Made to Order midnight blue velvet Signoria tuxedo, and it makes for a stunning look.

#2 – Karolina Kurkova

I love that the Met Gala always brings out the models onto the red carpet, each year they always wearing the most daring and striking looks, and this year was no different with Karolina Kurkova in this dramatic custom Marchesa ballgown – the structure of the dress and the floral print makes this a work of art and so very Charles James and I adore it. Add the $1 million worth of Harry Winston diamonds that she is wearing and this became a look to beat.

#3 – Amy Adams

Amy Adams really has been on a roll this year with her red carpet looks, her award season was near flawless and this metallic Oscar de la Renta is another incredible look. From the autumn/winter 2014 collection this gown wasn’t custom like most of the other looks but it sure as hell looked like it was made specifically for her. The fit of this strapless gown is impeccable – I love the heart-shaped neckline, the ruched waistline and the dramatic train – and those David Webb earrings really do finish off the look.

#4 – Dita Von Teese

Wow, wow, wow. If ever there was a time for Zac Posen to shine it was at a Charles James themed red carpet, his use of drama and structure was made for this year’s Met Gala and my favourite of his looks was this fun and exquisitely crafted pale pink mermaid gown worn by Dita Von Teese. OK, so I am a little obsessed with the burlesque star but come on doesn’t she look incredible. I love how her use of red in her lippy and clutch really plays up the red hem detailing of the gown. I love this look.

#5 – Charlize Theron

It was hard to select this final spot, thank god I had already done the pink beauties, but I think Charlize Theron in her monochrome Dior Couture gown paired with a tuxedo jacket thrown over her shoulders was just a divine way to honour the White Tie & Diamonds dress code. I’ve made no secret that I love women in tuxedos, I just love it when women rock menswear looks while still being feminine and for me Charlize strikes the right balance here by pairing the tux jacket with a gorgeous flowing dress and those statement Fred Leighton earrings. Gorgeous from head-to-toe, but then again isn’t she always!!!

Honorary Mention – Diane Kruger

I couldn’t miss out my girl crush – Diane Kruger. So her look might not have been one of my favourites, I just felt her embellished ice-white Hugo Boss beauty didn’t stand out as much as some of the other gowns. It was gorgeous though, I especially loved the pleated overlay, the styling of her complementary pearl-white clutch and her forties-style chignon was one of the best hairstyles of the night. Oh and she did have the best arm candy in Joshua Jackson who looked great in a Hugo Boss suit.

Who was your best dressed at the 2014 Met Gala?

Versace SoHo Boutique: Melissa George In Versace

Versace Melissa George Versace SoHo Boutique: Melissa George In Versace %tagWho: Former Home & Away and Alias star Melissa George

Where: At a cocktail party hosted by Donatella Versace for the opening of the new Versace SoHo boutique in New York

Wearing: A black Versace skirt with cross details paired with a black knit top, a black Versace trench coat, velvet Versace heels, gold accessories and a cute black studded clutch

Verdict: Wow, Melissa George is looking stunning here in head-to-toe Versace. I love everything about this moody look – but the stand-out piece has to be the trench coat draped over her shoulders – seriously hot!!!

Who would have thought that the former Aussie soap star could pull off a fierce rock chick vibe? I have to be honest I am blown away by her look – she was definitely my best dressed out of the stellar celeb crowd that included models galore *see below*, as well as Alexa Chung, Jennifer Hudson, and Helena Mattsson.

Of course it couldn’t be a Versace party without a host of models – there were a lot from Tali Lennox to Leigh Lezark, and even one of the original supermodels Linda Evangelista was in the house, but my three favourite model looks has to go to Doutzen Kroes, Coco Rocha and Karolina Kurkova.

Doutzen wore a gorgeous black Versace coat with flared skirt covered entirely in Swarovski crystals from the autumn/winter 2012 collection; Coco went for the Versace’s little black dress with metallic detailing also from the autumn/winter 2012 collection; and Karolina looked divine in a black leather Versace bomber jacket with intricate floral detailing teamed with the matching pencil skirt.

Do you rate Melissa’s look? And which model gets your vote?

Cannes 2012: Karolina Kurkova In Roberto Cavalli

Who: Supermodel Karolina Kurkova

Where: At the ‘Killing Them Softly’ premiere during the 65th Annual Cannes Film Festival at Palais des Festivals

Wearing: A fully embroidered Roberto Cavalli gown with black paillettes, a mermaid silhouette and leather halterneck straps from the autumn/winter 2012 collection, teamed with diamond snake bracelet and drop earrings

Verdict: I am loving Karolina Kurkova lately and I think it is all down to that glitzy Rachel Zoe gown that I loved at the Met Gala, and once again she stole the red carpet in this gorgeous dramatic look from Roberto Cavalli.

This is why Cannes completely excites me, as dresses like this deserve a large red carpet space to shine, everything from the mermaid silhouette to the gorgeous shimmer of the paillettes against the camera flashes, I completely love it. Add the dark lips, the leather straps and her fierce pose and this is a breathtaking moment.

I am loving models stealing the red carpet!!

Cover Loving: Karolina Kurkova Steamy In A Bodysuit

VogueMexicoJune Cover Loving: Karolina Kurkova Steamy In A Bodysuit %tag

I knew we hadn’t seen the last of the bodysuit covers, Prada has been getting a love for its vintage-inspired swimsuit-come-bodysuits gracing a lot of magazines around the world from Harper’s Bazaar UK to Vogue Paris, ELLE China, and even British GQ worked it.

This isn’t Dolce & Gabbana’s first bodysuit cover of the season, remember that gorgeous jewelled number that Jennifer Lawrence wore for Interview Germany, but Karolina Kurkova is working this beauty on the cover of Vogue Mexico’s June issue.

I can understand why so many stylists are drawn to these bodysuits but like the Miu Miu dress I can’t wait for the next trend!!!

Met Gala 2012: Karolina Kurkova In Rachel Zoe

Who: Karolina Kurkova

Where: At the Met Gala 2012 in New York

Wearing: A long-sleeved fitted gold sequinned custom-made Rachel Zoe gown, with an open back, teamed with a matching gold sequinned turban, and gold clutch

Verdict: This is one breathtaking gown and look, which could have only been pulled together by stylist extraordinary and now designer Rachel Zoe. One of the main reasons why I love the Met Gala nearly as much as the Oscars is because the models work the red carpet rather than the catwalk, and they always seem to pull off impossible looks, and Karolina proves in this gorgeous Rachel Zoe creation that she is one amazing model.

I love this look from head to toe, the whole look is just so over the top, but that’s the point the Met Gala is the biggest fashion event of the year if you can’t make a splash at this event where can you? I think Karolina works the gold statuette look amazingly, this is without a doubt one of my best looks, I completely adore it!!!

One last thing though – am I the only one that instantly thought of Kate Moss from the 2009 Met Gala wearing Marc Jacobs when they saw Karolina hit the red carpet? Obviously not identical, but maybe Rachel’s pal Marc inspired the creation.
