Cover Loving: W Magazine’s Movie Issue By Tim Walker

W-Mag-emma-stone

It has been a while since a magazine cover actually excited me like these Tim Walker masterpieces for W Magazine’s annual movie issue featuring the top nominees ahead of the award season. Walker has snapped 39 nominees from Emma Stone, looking like a broken doll, to Julianne Moore, looking like she could be sisters with Effie from The Hunger Games, and even a very creepy Bradley Cooper dressed in a white.

There are 7 amazing covers, but for me the stand-outs have to be Emma Stone’s and Reese Witherspoon, I really love the ’70s free-love aesthetic, and seeing movie stars transformed into eccentric characters is just an another reason why Walker is a master at bridging the gap between fashion and art.

As well as the covers the accompanying editorial is just as strong with Jessica ChastainAmy Adams and Shailene Woodley looking equally eccentric. I love that magazines like W Magazine take a chance with Walker as these images wouldn’t look out of place in an art gallery, I actually think that is where they belong, they deserve to be hung up on walls.

What are you thoughts about W Magazine’s movie issue covers?

BAFTA Awards: Jessica Chastain In Roland Mouret

BAFTA-jessica-rolandmouret

Who: Jessica Chastain

Where: At the 2013 EE British Academy Film Awards held at the Royal Opera House in London

Wearing: A cobalt blue asymmetrical structured Roland Mouret column gown, with origami pleated draping detail to the bodice, teamed with Harry Winston earrings and bracelet

Verdict: There was a lot of black and monochrome styles last night from the likes of Anne Hathaway, SJP, Emila Fox, Gemma Arterton, Elizabeth Olsen, Jennifer Garner, Thandie Newton and Alicia Vikander, so when I spied a pop of colour on last night’s BAFTA red carpet I was overjoyed and one of my favourites had to be Jessica Chastain’s gorgeous Roland Mouret gown.

This dress fitted her perfectly, the blue was divine against her hair colour, and I loved that she added a red lippy – this was Hollywood glamour at its very best and I am so pleased that she braved the snowy conditions.

SAG Awards: Jessica Chastain In Alexander McQueen

Who: Jessica Chastain

Where: At the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles

Wearing: A strapless red duchesse satin Alexander McQueen gown from the pre-autumn/winter 2013 collection, teamed with a Harry Winston necklace

Verdict: As you will know I wasn’t impressed with Jessica Chastain’s Golden Globes look but at last night’s SAG Awards she really showcased her red carpet pulling power in this Jessica Rabbit-esq Alexander McQueen gown.

First of all how incredible does her body look in this gorgeous gown – I love the sexy silhouette on her, she really should wear gowns like this more. Everything from the colour, which works perfectly against her fiery red hair, to the sweetheart neckline, to the diamond necklace – this is one of the most glamorous looks of the night.

After the Golden Globes I was worried what we would get for the Oscars but this look gives me hope!!!

Golden Globes 2013: Jessica Chastain In Calvin Klein Collection

Who: Jessica Chastain, who picked up the award for Best Actress in a Drama for her role in ‘Zero Dark Thirty’

Where: At the Golden Globe Awards 2013, held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California

Wearing: A seaform silk crepe custom Calvin Klein Collection halter dress, teamed with Harry Winston diamonds

Verdict: This dress was not what I was expecting from Jessica Chastain, I was expecting something a little more edgy, instead this gown has an ethereal quality to it that I don’t think translated well.

I look at it and I want to love it, and in part I do, the colour especially is perfection against her skintone and her fiery coloured hair, and I loved the backless style of the gown, I just felt it wasn’t fitted very well.

Considering this was a custom gown it just looked like the bodice was a little big and the silhouette of the gown was unflattering it really needed to be nipped in more at her waist – she has a great figure that isn’t being shown off in this dress.

What did totally work were her jewels as she was dripping in Harry Winston diamonds worth $3 million – that cuff is gorgeous.

Do you rate Jessica’s look?
