Critics’ Choice Awards: My Five Favourite Red Carpet Looks

Critics-choice-angelina-jol

So the award season is certainly in full swing, which I am loving, first up was the Golden Globes that was semi-disappointing this year, but thankfully this year’s Critics’ Choice Movie Awards really did make up for some of the boring looks from last Sunday, I am talking about you Emily Blunt!!!

I know I normally do individual red carpet posts, but as I am late on this as I was actually travelling when the awards were taking place, I thought I would just share my five favourite looks, and trust me they are all beautiful.

First up we have Angelina Jolie who looked like a million dollars in her silver silk Atelier Versace gown. Granted this isn’t an original look, but if it isn’t broken why fix it comes to mind, but hey at least it isn’t black. I love how this gown flows and how it adds curves to Angie’s tiny frame with its fluty sleeves, draped bodice and plunging neckline. This gown is perfection with a real Hollywood movie star appeal and I adore it.

Critics-Choice-Diane-KrugerNext is Diane Kruger in a dramatic blue and white floral print strapless Naeem Khan gazar gown from the pre-fall 2015 collection. I love Diane’s red carpet style but this is elegance on another level, I really love the stunning china-blue print, even if some of my Twitter followers felt it looked like a vintage plate design. I am not sure if I prefer this look to her gorgeous Golden Globes Emilia Wickstead gown but it is still beautiful and such a great award ceremony look.

Then we have Michelle Monaghan showing off her sexy-yet-elegant side in this stunning black Elie Saab gown from the pre-fall 2015 collection. Normally one to showcase colour on the red carpet, I am so pleased that she opted for the understated black, as I just feel that with the sheer lace bodice and slits to the skirt that it just works better in black. The fit of this gown is just perfect on her as well, and I love that she wore her hair up and kept her make-up to a minimum. This is simply glamorous.

For my fourth look I have gone for Jennifer Aniston as not only was I shocked that she wasn’t wearing black, I love that she took a fashion risk and went for a sexy Gucci tuxedo in a gorgeous burnt-sienna hue. I was disappointed with her yawn of a gown to the Golden Globes and I have to wonder why she didn’t wear this as she would have certainly stood out.

There is something about a woman in a tuxedo and I love that instead of going for a safer option by wearing this in black she went for it in red, it totally paid off as she looks hot!!! I know a lot has been spoken about the fact that she was on the red carpet for the first time in years with Angelina Jolie but I think this look is so different from her silver gown that it stops comparisons and that was very clever.

For some this had a little bit too much plunge, I have to disagree I think the neckline and opting for no blouse really works and I love that she accessorised her décolletage with a couple of gold necklaces. Another love from this look has to be those flared-leg trousers, they are so flattering and really give her super long legs.

My final look that I adored at the Critics’ Choice Awards had to be Emily Blunt, like with Jennifer her Golden Globes look didn’t excite me, and it is because I knew that she could do so much better like with this red embroidered lace Emilio Pucci halter-neck gown. How stunning is this, if it was in white it would make a great wedding gown with those sheer chiffon inserts.

I do love the colour choice, it adds a touch of sex appeal to the elegance glamour of the embroidered gown and I love her wavy hair, it all just looks so effortless. Also Emily and her husband John Krasinski really are leading the Hollywood pack for the cutest couple award.

Oscars 2013: Jennifer Aniston In Valentino

Oscars-jennifer-anistonWho: Jennifer Aniston

Where: At the 85th Annual Academy awards held in Los Angeles

Wearing: A strapless red Valentino gown with a full skirt, teamed with a Salvatore Ferragamo double facet orange suede and gold metal minaudière and minimal Fred Leighton jewellery

Verdict: When I got the press release saying that Jennifer Aniston a lover of black was wearing red I was surprised and excited to see her gown. I can’t say I was completely blown away by this gown, it did remind me a little of Jennifer Lawrence’s Dior gown from the Golden Globes, but I have to give it to Jennifer for not opting for her go-to body-con dresses as it was nice to see her work a different look.

What I did adore was the minimal styling, her hair was natural, her jewellery was minimal and her make-up was completely flawless – one thing you can always guarantee with Jennifer is that she brings the glamour and beauty to an event.

MTV Movie Awards: Round Up – The Standouts & The Predictable

This years MTV Movie Awards weren’t what I was expecting, normally for MTV’s award ceremonies there isn’t much off the red carpet that I want to report on, but this time round I was pleasantly surprised, granted there were still a few predictable choices from the likes of Jennifer Aniston, and a few shockers, yes Jenna Dewan I am talking about you, but overall it was quite an interesting red carpet.

One of my favourite looks has to be Elizabeth Banks in this gorgeous, very trendy and perfect for the MTV Awards Elie Saab jumpsuit from the autumn/winter 2012 ready-to-wear collection. I absolutely love the lace panelling to the arms, legs and neckline, as well as the flawless tailoring of the jumpsuit, which fits her perfectly. Also I am glad to see Lulu Guinness’ lips clutch hitting the red carpet.

Next up we have three of my other favourite looks from three young actresses that really did shine. From Shailene Woodley giving Elizabeth Banks a run for her money for best jumpsuit in a black tuxedo halter menswear-inspired look by Stella McCartney from the autumn/winter 2012 London Evening Collection. From this picture her hair lets it down but trust me her fishtail braid was a divine touch, I am also loving her black lucite Stella McCartney heel sandals.

Emma Stone continued to impress me in this edgy monochrome Martin Grant Paris cocktail dress, which has been modified from an autumn/winter 2012 look, the architectural detailing to the bodice really makes this dress standout, plus her gorgeous nude leather ‘Grace’ Brian Atwood heels and tousled updo. Very chic look.

Working sports luxe to perfection was Emma Watson who looked gorgeous and edgy in Brood’s autumn/winter 2012 digital-printed top and skirt. Finishing off her flawless look were Tabitha Simmons Gothic strappy sandal heels.

I do love a good collaboration and hitting the MTV Movie Awards red carpet was a one-of-a-kind Christian Siriano strapless black spiral pleated black silk taffeta mini adorned with Timex watches and Swarovski crystals and Christina Ricci worked it. Styled by Brad Goreski, this dress is different but utterly striking inspired by John Singer Sargent’s 1884 oil painting titled Portrait of Madame X. I love the detailing on the bodice with the watch gears and faces.

Now to the predictable, which might I add I don’t dislike I just wasn’t surprised with their choices. From Kristen Stewart in a Guishem tight-fitted mini from the autumn/winter 2012 collection, to Jessica Biel in a simple-yet-textured Chanel dress from the spring/summer 2012 collection, I am grateful that she wore those gorgeous Barbara Bui heels as they are hot.

The most predictable award however has to go to Jennifer Aniston, who once again wore a LBD, granted this one is leather, but still it is black and from one of her go-to designers Valentino. Hey she looks good in this one shoulder number from the autumn/winter 2012 collection, but come on if any award show deserved colour it was the MTV Movie Awards.

Hot, Hot, Hot: Jennifer Aniston Not In A LBD

Who: Jennifer Aniston

Where: At ELLE’s 18th annual Women in Hollywood Tribute in Beverly Hills

Wearing: A deep-V neck Kaufmanfranco mini with linear sequin paillettes, which also has an open back; accessories are Balenciaga strappy heels, a metallic Ferragamo clutch, and finished off with jewellery from Fred Leighton

Verdict: Wow, this new man in Jennifer’s life really is making her brim with confidence, I love that she stepped away from her trademark little black dress and went for a sexy sequinned mini.

I’ve been watching Friends a bit lately, it is all to do with Comedy Central’s big push at the moment, and it just reminded me why I love Jennifer so much and it is all to do with Rachel in the first series. I don’t know why but this picture for me she has the same Rachel glow about her that I haven’t seen in a while and I like it.

Also according to InStyle this mini was created especially for Saks, I looked online and couldn’t find it, so sadly I think that means it has gone – but this is seriously one hot dress!!!

Jennifer Aniston Returns To Valentino

Who: Jennifer Aniston

Where: The Bounty Hunter promo has landed in Berlin

Wearing: This promo tour has seen her wearing Donna Karan, Christian Lacroix, and now Jen has come full circle since the London Premiere and gone back to her favourite Valentino

Verdict: I like this biege mini Valentino Couture dress, especially the draped and knotted sections, but I am not sure this frock does anything for her figure. As well as returning to her favourite designer her hair was let loose again – which for most people is what they think she should change but I love her hair down.

Jennifer Aniston At Paris Premiere

Who:Jennifer Aniston

Where: The French Premiere of Le Chasseur de primes aka The Bounty Hunter, held at the Gaumont Marignan theater in Paris

Wearing:Colourful strapless floor-length Christian Lacroix gown teamed with Manolo Blahnik strappy heels

Verdict:OK what I like, the fact that she went for some colour – the salmon-pink colour suits her skintone, I like the fact that it wasn’t a black halterneck dress, I liked the gathered bodice. But even after all those likes – I really don’t like it on her and I think that going for something different was a step too far for her.

Jennifer Aniston In Donna Karan

Who:Jennifer Aniston

Where: New York premiere of her new film The Bounty Hunter

Wearing:Nude draped Donna Karan gown, accessorised with a tan Ferragamo clutch

Verdict: This is one of my favourite red carpet dresses for a long time, and a dress I wouldn’t have expected on Jen – but I am so glad she dared away from her signature black, as this frock is amazing.

I also love the clutch and the double cuffs are amazing – want!!
