Can We Please Say Bye To The Sheer Trend?

Can We Please Say Bye To The Sheer Trend?

The red carpet of late has been very hit-and-miss, I’ve been loving Cannes with all the Old Hollywood Glamour, but the Met Gala and the recent Billboard Awards really fell short for me, in part because it seems that stars are just interested in all the shock-and-awe styles, more flesh the better.

It seems that the red carpet has moved on from displaying exquisite fashion and pleasing fashion critics to achieving the most likes on Instagram. It isn’t about being best dressed, but rather being the most popular, which in turn means more flesh than dress it seems.

We saw it with Beyonce in Givenchy at the Met Gala, the singer posted her sexy uber-sheer gown on her social media channels before she’d even stepped foot on the red carpet. Gone are the days where suspense was a good thing that you didn’t know who was wearing what until they stepped out of the limo, Instagram it seems has become a pre-requisite to any big event. We’ve been seeing behind-the-scene snippets of the hair and make-up for a while, I like that it adds to the excitement, but now the stars go one step further and post their looks from the hotel lobby. It makes me wonder whether instant social media is taking the fun out of the red carpet.

I’m getting a little off topic, saying bye to sheer, but I think these celebrities really understand the power of social media, they can control the narrative, how the look is presented, even discuss the who and the why, it is as though Instagram and Twitter are becoming the new red carpet correspondents, E! must be getting a little worried.

But do Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez, two of most stunningly beautiful women on the plant really need to resort to daring bare-all looks. Just check out J-Lo in this tummy-baring custom Charbel Zoe gown at the Billboard Awards. Is it just me who thinks this gown looks cheap? I get it she is sexy, she is comfortable in her own skin, and her body really is slamming, buy do we need to see it, each and every time? Where’s the mystery, the restraint, the understated glamour for a change?

I get it these words aren’t often associated with J-Lo, just take her Versace Met Gala gown for instance, another gown all about the sheer, but for me this dress didn’t even look that flattering on her. This isn’t about hating on Jennifer Lopez, I have a serious girl crush on her, so beautiful, and I do love the sexy vibe she exudes, but I really think she is better than these shock-and-awe sheer gowns she has been wearing of late.

Do you remember when she wore Elie Saab to the Oscars early this year? I loved how elegant and refined that look was, I’m hoping that she will start to embrace glamour and elegance over this overt-sexiness that she has been giving us, maybe she could leave that for her stage shows.

What are your thoughts on all the sheer happenings on the red carpet?

Shop Her Style: Jennifer Lopez Wearing Markus Lupfer ‘Love Myself’ Sweater

OK so how hot is Jennifer Lopez looking at the moment, I am seriously obsessed with how good her body is, don’t get me wrong she has always looked amazing but right now she is insanely hot.

Her instagram has become a daily pleasure for me, I love that she shares behind-the-scenes shots of her tour, gets her fans to vote on her outfits and even post no make-up selfies of herself. I have to be honest but move over Beyonce, J-Lo is taking your reign as my Instagram queen!!!

One of Jennifer’s Instagram’s that caught my eye this week was this stunning piccie of the singer, showing off her great pins and fabulous hair, and the cutest jumper ever that I instantly recognised as Markus Lupfer, basically the only designer you want to buy if you are after a statement sweater.

The cotton pink sequinned Markus Lupfer ‘Love Myself’ sweater is perfection and I have found it on FarFetch so you too can look like J-Lo, I just wish buying it also meant her glamsquad came and styled me up as she looks flawless in this picture.

Love J-Lo’s sweater – check out 10 of my favourite Markus Lupfer sweaters right now:

V Magazine: Jennifer Lopez Packs A Punch

Wow, how gorgeously fierce does Jennifer Lopez look on the cover of the sports issue of V Magazine, I seriously don’t think I have seen this side of her in an editorial shoot before and I love it. Shot by Mario Testino, J-Lo shows that she still packs a punch for the spring 2012 issue, but what I love most is how far removed this boxing-inspired spread is from her normally sexy glamour approach.

Ever since Jennifer Lopez joined American Idol I have to admit I have seen her in a different light, OK she doesn’t generally stray far from her trademark sexy curve hugging looks on the red carpet, but what she always brings is an attitude that just excites, and that is what I see in this editorial. I don’t think many stars would want to pose in boxing gear and still look hot!!!

This black and white picture is one of my favourites from the editorial spread – even scrunching up her face she looks gorgeous. This has got to be the best editorial spread of Jennifer Lopez I have ever seen – what do you think do you like?

AMAs 2011: Jennifer Lopez Brings The Drama

Who: Jennifer Lopez

Where: At the 2011 American Music Awards in Los Angeles

Wearing: A sheer and black embroidered Zuhair Murad Couture gown from the autumn/winter 2011 collection, with one-sleeve, high-neck and her signature thigh-high split detailing

Verdict: What I love about Jennifer Lopez is that she never disappoints on bringing the drama to the red carpet, I might not always love what she is wearing, but what I do adore is that she fully commits to her look and this gorgeous Zuhair Murad is no exception. I love the styling of this look from the high bun to the nude lips, but come on no one could wear this dress like her, she looks so fierce.

As well as picking up Best Latin Music Artist, J-Lo also performed a medley of “Until It Beats No More” “Papi” and “On The Floor”, wearing this stunning Giambattista Valli couture gown and cape. I have been loving this autumn/winter 2011 couture collection and this strapless ombre leopard print is divine and works perfectly for J-Lo on stage.

Her looks didn’t stop there as to finish off her fashion spectacular at the AMAs J-Lo went a bit Britney Spears circa 2004. As part of her performance J-Lo whipped off her couture gown to reveal this bedazzled bodysuit. I couldn’t help think of Britney in her Toxic video. What do you think? Jennifer Lopez or Britney Spears??
