I did a total double take when I first saw Selena Gomez’s debut i-D cover, yes this is the Disney starlet that was/is going out with Justin Bieber. The singer, looks barely recognisable stripped back for the magazine’s ‘The Street Issue’ wearing a Margaret Howell jumper on the cover.
I have to be honest though I am loving the cover and the inside editorial shot by Scott Trindle, the singer who normally goes all glam in sexy mini dresses looks transformed with her barely there make-up, understated hair, and tomboyish clothes – and I love how refreshing and real she looks.
The cover is fun, but it’s the ‘This Is England’ inspired look inside with her wearing an oversize John Varvatos coat, Marni tee and Denham jeans that really made me take notice. I just wonder how her tween fans will react when they see this?
Did you recognise Selena Gomez – and do you like her i-D debut?
As with all i-D magazines there isn’t just one cover, ‘The Street Issue’ also features Jourdan Dunn shooting a selfie of her doing the i-D wink, which I love, Ondria Hardin, Blondey McCoy, Catherine McNeil and Sky Ferreira.
