My Style: A Winter Coat Deserves A Snowy Background

As you will know, from my numerous tweets and Instagram snaps, the snow finally fell on my village this weekend and I certainly made the most of it. So on Saturday, before the major snow fell yesterday, I decided to give my new Dorothy Perkins coat that I bought in the sale a test run – basically I just wanted an excuse to wrap up warm and wear my new coat.

I have been after a smarter winter coat for a while, and I really wanted one with contrasting sleeves but not all black like the ones I have seen in Zara, New Look and Topshop, and I had considered the parka versions seen in River Island and Warehouse but I just didn’t seem to ever find one in my size, so when I spotted this beauty in the sale at DP it was like fate!!!

As well as keeping the chill away, I love the shape of this coat, kind of a slouchy long-line biker-style coat, which is still smart and basically will go with anything in my wardrobe. What I also love is that it fits perfectly in the arms, I have tried on a lot of these contrasting sleeve coats and the faux-leather sleeve is either too tight or too baggy, this one is just right and not bad for £40.

As we hadn’t had that much snow on Saturday I decided to pair my new coat with my fairly new 5th Avenue by Halle Berry knee-high boots, yes designed by Halle Berry the actress as seen at the Golden Globes in Atelier Versace!!! 5th Avenue is a German brand part of the Deichmann footwear group and the Halle Berry line has something for everyone, so when the brand asked me to pick a pair I just loved these simple knee highs. I chose them because not only are they the perfect height, just under 9cm, they have a block heel, which means they are comfortable to wear all day, and they are less than £60 – serious bargain.

Finishing up my look is my super warm Vero Moda knitted jumper dress, which I have had for years, and I added a pop of colour with this neon statement necklace from Dorothy Perkins. Oh and I nearly forgot, I even gave my HTC One X a makeover as my Hello Kitty cover I ordered off eBay arrived – isn’t it cute!!!

What have you been wearing in the snow?

Bag Loving: Hello Kitty For Zatchels

Last week, or maybe the week before, sorry I have been mega busy I went along to Zatchels HQ to check out the new Hello Kitty collaboration. I know for some Hello Kitty is for children, and granted some of the styles on display were more suited for the tween market, but come on who doesn’t love Hello Kitty and her cute bow???

The collection features the classic leather satchels in a range of sizes and designs, from red and purple with scattered bows to polka dot bows and a very fun Hello Kitty town scene. But what caught my eye in this collection had to be the saddle bags, they come in two sizes and are the perfect weekend bag, and I am in love with the black and white polka dot design with Hello Kitty peeking out from behind one of her signature bows – seriously cute.

The collection doesn’t stop there as Zatchels have also put the Hello Kitty print across their adorable barrel bags, which are just the right size to be an alternative camera bag for my tiny Olympus.

I can see these beauties being added to lots of Christmas wish-lists – so which one would you like Santa to bring you?

Plus check it out I met my Hello Kitty twin!!!

Cover Loving: Hello Kitty For ELLE Taiwan

So Miss Piggy has had a few moments this year with flashy editorial spreads in the likes of InStyle and Flare magazine, well it seems that Hello Kitty has gone one better by gracing not one but two ELLE Taiwan covers to celebrate the mag’s 20th anniversary.

I have to admit I do have flash backs of having to go to Pontins as a child looking at this cover, where people dress up in random costumes, as a child I was always scared of them. I like the idea of these covers, I am a Hello Kitty fan and I am loving Hello Kitty’s pink feathered frock with matching signature bow, but it was when I saw the Suri Cruise inspired dotty number that I felt a bit weirded out. Is it just me?

I think it is the real life-sized Hello Kitty that makes me not get on board, I think I would have preferred a stylish illustrated cover. I wonder if the person inside the kitty gets recognition inside or maybe they requested against it!!!

ELLE must have been a little worried about the cover as well as the Hello Kitty ones don’t cut it for the newstand, they’ve gone for a more traditional approach and used a real-life model!!

So, which cover do you prefer?

Daily Shop: Forever 21 Hello Kitty Maxi

I like quirky and this Hello Kitty Tank Maxi Dress from Forever 21 is right up my street!! Priced at only £14.75, it really is a bargain, and is perfect for summery days. I like marl grey basics as it works well with bright pink, and the distressed Hello Kitty graphic on the front works really well.

I reckon for the summer just wear with a pink vest underneath for a spot of colour and in the winter this can easily be layered with a chunky cardigan.

I know for some Forever 21 isn’t really on their radar yet as we do only have one store in the UK in Birmingham, but come July London will get its first store, and until then you can buy this beauty online at the dedicated UK store.
