Wedding Inspiration: 5 Wedding-Worthy Braids

My-braidMy wedding is less than 3 months away, the venue is all sorted, so are the dresses, the shoes, the food, and generally most of the big stuff, which means now I am focused on finding the perfect wedding-worthy hair-do to go with my fabulous dress.

I have a great hairdresser in Carol at Toni & Guy in Cambridge who has been trying out new things with my hair each time I go and get my hair cut. We’ve tried a crown of braids, relaxed curls, and this cute side braid pictured above. I have liked them all, but they aren’t quite right, the only thing I am certain of is that I want braids, I don’t know why I just love that they are romantic and princess-like, and seriously what more could you want on your wedding.

It is because of my obsession of braids and the search for the perfect wedding style that I now have a Pinterest board dedicated to them and I am addicted to going through one-million strong Instagram account @InstaBraid, which you can probably guess is all about braids.

They’ve posted nearly 2,000 times so it is hard to choose just five wedding-worthy styles, but I think you will agree all these beautiful braids would look amazing on a bride. I think I am going to need a few more hair styling sessions with my hairdresser before I can commit to the perfect braid.

Do you like to see brides rocking braids on their wedding day?

Fast Beauty: Blow Ltd At The Apartment

As well as enjoying the fashion, catching up with friends and discovering new designers to crush over, I love that fashion week always means that I get to hangout at The Apartment and have a team of beauty professionals make me pretty.

I am so bad at make-up and doing my hair, something other than straight, that I really do need all the help I can get and this season I took full advantage of Blow LTD and their approach to fast beauty – doing a fabulous hair style in 30 minutes, refreshing my make-up in 15 minutes, and even putting a pop of colour on my nails in a speedy 15 minutes – a full look in 60 minutes – what more could I ask for.

beauty-blow-menu beauty-beach-blow-

For favourite look out of the three had to be Beach Blow (above), tousled waves to make it feel like summer in this crappy wet weather. I just loved the relaxed vibe of this blow dry, it was just enough curls and volume to make me feel really pretty, plus I loved how they kept my make-up quite natural with just a pop of colour on my lips and cheeks.

I also was also convinced to try on some Eylure lashes, normally I shy away from fake lashes as they touch my glasses, but the lovely make-up artist just used half of the strip to add some volume without them being uncomfortable and I think she has made me a convert and I will have to look into having that done for my wedding. You can’t see them so well under my glasses in these photos but every complemented me on how great they looked – so I will be definitely trying those again.

Second favourite look was my Power Blow (above), more sculpted waves than the Beach Blow that made my hair look shorter and shinier. I like the slight wave and the volume and even in this rain we’ve been having you could still tell that my hair had been given a makeover.

It is tough to say my least favourite, as I really did love all three blow dry styles, but out of the three the Luxe Blow (below), lots of volume, more glamorous and bigger than the others was just maybe a little too much for fashion week shows, a party yes, running around London probably not. But I am so glad I tried it as it is something I really wouldn’t have normally gone for.

The whole team was amazing, they made me feel so comfortable and I never felt rushed as it was super quick. They also used the new GHD pastel straighteners on my hair and I am kind of addicted – I think I need to look into upgrading my plain black ones!!!

I really can’t wait to try out more styles off the Blow menu – especially the Scarlet Blow for a night out and the Blow N’ Braid for a bit of fun.

Which Blow Dry would you select?

Beauty Bytes: Chloé’s Fringe Love Affair

I have a love-hate affair with my fringe, when cut well I adore it, when cut badly or getting too long I despise it – but seeing Chloé’s stunning spring/summer 2014 campaign makes me realise how much I do love fringes.

The care-free seventies feel to this ‘last weekend of summer’ campaign is perfection, not only do I wish I was a Chloé girl like Lou Doillon and Julia Stegner, I also need to know the key to their impeccable bangs.

Each shot is amazing, I love the contrast between the blonde and brunette styles, but my favourite shot has to be how their fringes sit behind those oversized sunglasses – now if only I could look as chic with my out-of-control hair!!!

Do you have a love-hate affair with your fringe?

Beauty Bytes: A Visit To Cheeky In East London

Hand’s up who likes to be pampered? Get your nails done, have your hair fixed, eat some tasty food, sip amazing drinks, and treat yourself to a beauty product or two? Well, that is what Cheeky in East London is all about – an affordable place to go for instant beauty gratification!

Last week the guys at Logitech treated me to a makeover while looking at their new collection of iPad cases, I am lusting over their fabric keyboard cases, and it was nice to mix technology with beauty and it was great to experience Cheeky I have been wanting to go since it opened last month.

The concept is so cool, you can get your nails done, including nail art, your can have your hair refreshed, you can eat some amazing healthy food and some sweet treats, and you can have everything from a cup of tea to a fancy coffee and even champagne. It is like the perfect place to hang out with friends – whether for a special occasion, or to get ready for a first day, a work party, or just because really – as having my nails done instantly perks me up.

There were lots of options for the nails, there are over 20 different Cheeky shades to choose from, plus you get to take the colour home and my cherry red varnish has become my favourite colour. You can then add nail art from dotty patterns, different coloured tips, and because it is Christmas there were also festive options including presents, Santa and Rudolph, who I couldn’t resist getting – he looks pretty cute against the dark red.

For my hair I went for curls, but you can also go for poker straight, beach waves, sixties beehives, plaits, and even messy buns – basically anything goes. It was nice to swish about for the rest of the day with my curly hair.

As it is Cowshed’s naughty sister, Cheeky also has a range of gorgeously packaged products for the hair, body and make-up so you can continuing the pampering at home. I tried the hand cream and it was amazing, that I think I need to make my way through the whole collection.

If you are looking for a relaxing spot for a makeover you have to check out Cheeky – I can’t wait to go again and try something different.

Have you tried out Cheeky?

Beauty: My Experience At The Chapel Islington

Just before fashion week, I know many moons ago, I was treated to a brand new hair-do at The Chapel in Angel. Normally I shy away from getting my hair done as I am a little on the nervous side with new peeps cutting my hair, I blame my Mum as when I was little I had the most awful hair cut done that made me run out crying, I was only 8 but it has stayed with me.

However, I had heard such amazing things about The Chapel that I thought I would be in great hands, and I most certainly was – there were no nerves, no tension – just an amazing hair cut and colour in an stylish setting – the interior of the salon is perfection. I loved the consultation couches, the handbag locker boxes, the large hanging mirrors, the relaxing fireplace, basically everything has been thought out for a great, stress-free, roomy experience – oh and I can’t forget the chocolates you get with your drink – they are delicious!!!

I was looked after by Salon Director, Georgia Denton (above), who was super cute with her pink-dipped blonde bob, I loved how she listened to what I wanted, didn’t want, and put together a little inspiration pitch to showcase her vision for my hair, which as I asked for nothing too drastic was a more modern look to my existing cut – equalling blunt bangs, heavy layers and straight across the bottom and I absolutely love it.

As well as a cut I was also treated to a fresh colour on my locks, normally I stay clear of colouring as I don’t like the up-keep but my natural dip-dye effect needed to go, so the colour specialist Danni came up with this glossy dark brown shade that is about two shades darker than my normal colour. I am just surprised by how a small change can make such a difference, I also think the Redken colour also helped as I have never seen my hair so shiny before.

I was at the salon for a good few hours, but unlike other places I have been over the years to get my hair cut, it didn’t seem like anyone was rushing to get me out of the chair, I was comfortable in front of the fire with a hot chocolate waiting for my colour to develop, and the staff were super friendly.

If you live or work in the Islington area then you have to check out this amazing hairdressers as I totally recommend that they will look after you and make your hair look better than ever. It was because of how good they were that it makes me sad I don’t live in London any more  I know I commute in a lot, but I just wish The Chapel was in Cambridge.

As well as getting a great cut and a shiny new colour, I also got a boost in confidence because of all the amazing complements I got. It just shows that paying for a great hairdresser makes all the difference as I haven’t seen my hair cut keep it shapes for as long as this latest cut from Georgia – I think I need to start finding reasons to go to Angel!!!

Hot Hair Alert: When Barbie Went To Bleach

You know when it is a trend when Barbie gets involved and funky coloured, dip-dyed, and ombre hair styles aren’t going anywhere. From popstars Katy Perry and Ellie Goulding to actress Kate Bosworth, and even model Amber Le Bon, colourful hair has seem to be the ‘Rachel’ hairstyle of the year *sorry I have been watching re-runs of Friends*. It was even spotted on the spring/summer 2012 runways with Mulberry adding coloured streaks to their models hair and Roksanda Ilincic just went for full on bright.

Well Barbie with the help of uber-trendy Dalston salon, Bleach London, is showing how the trend should be done with some amazing creations, which have been inspired by and featuring the latest Barbie Design Printables – that have gone right to the top of my Christmas wish list.

“Barbie was my very first hair idol when I was a kid, and now having the opportunity for her to be our client at Bleach is incredible, and her design able hair is a genius concept which has also inspired some new creations inside the salon!” said Bleach co-founder, Alex Brownsell.

Alex has created 8 Barbie looks, each one is as divine as the next, from a bow in her hair to the sexiest bunches I have ever seen, and one fierce plait, this doll really knows how to work colour!! Now what do I have to do to get these beauties in my collection????

So onto the new doll set that I need in my life – first up it is only £17.99 from Amazon, and the online program allows you to print directly on to the clip-on hair extensions. The best bit is you get 16 for yourself and 6 for your Barbie doll, which means you can do a coordinated look with any colour or design you like – a completely personalised Barbie look. I am just hoping it is as easy as it sounds. Get in quick though I think this is going to be one hot doll this Christmas.

Like what you have seen? Well keep checking the official Bleach x Barbie Tumblr for more amazing Barbie looks. Also keep your fingers cross the salon to puts Barbie-makeovers on their price list as my dolls would love a new hair-do!!!

Hair Master Class: Peter Lux For Head and Shoulders

Last week you may have noticed that I have become part of the Handpicked Media gang, I am super happy as they have some amazing bloggers in the mix and they put on fabulous events and I went to my first this week to celebrate 50 years of head&shoulders. I know crazy right that this bathroom staple has been going for half a century, and also that it is still at the top of the pack.

The event was fun as head&shoulder’s Creative Beauty Director, Peter Lux, took us through the hottest hair styles over the last 50 years and showed us how they are done. Admittedly this isn’t really my area of expertise, I have super thick and poker straight hair so my fringe is as much styling as I do, which is minimal, but it was fun learning how to do the Audrey Hepburn, as well as the 40s look seen on the Miu Miu autumn/winter runway.

In groups we all took to our hair-tool models, which kind of freaked me out as they had real hair *and ours had grey strands*, and tried to recreate Peter’s looks. Here is our Miu Miu look, and then check out Peter’s, granted we need a lot more practice.

Fancy learning how to do a modern take on the iconic Audrey Hepburn up-do in Breakfast at Tiffany’s? Well you are in luck as Peter and the head&shoulders team have put together this amazing video tutorial.

Thanks to Peter Lux, head&shoulders, Handpicked Media and the St Martin’s Lane hotel for a fab night.
