Video Loving: Battle Of The Fragrance Blondes

I have never noticed before until both Gucci and Hugo Boss unveiled their latest fragrance faces that blondes obviously smell better as well as having more fun!!! This week both luxury labels released their short films and both it seems went for a old school Hollywood glamour, Veronica Lake-inspired waves, a room with a view, as well as the trademark sexy walk and the alluring spray shots.

Even if you aren’t that keen on Blake Lively or Gwyneth Paltrow, I don’t think you can deny how amazing they both look in these ads, and I find it staggering that there is a 15 year age gap. Seriously is Gwynnie getting younger?

But striking looks aside in the battle for the best blonde I am going to have to give it to Blake and her Gucci ad, not only does she look stunning in a gold sequin Gucci gown, but it just feels more special and memorable – maybe it is all the gold, very Olympian of them, or maybe it is the historic setting of the Goldstein Residence – but for me this just feels more opulent.

The Hugo Boss ad I think suffers from bad timing, if it didn’t come out at the same time as Gucci’s maybe I would have thought differently about it – but for me it just feels flat. Gwyneth looks stunning in her one-shoulder Hugo Boss dress, but I felt a little weird watching her getting ready – I don’t know it just doesn’t sparkle.

But seeing both Blake and Gwyneth it made me wonder what other famous blondes have rocked a fragrance campaign – and just with a quick spell of research it seems a lot!!! All the big names from Dior to Chanel and Calvin Klein have all gone for a blonde in recent years – literally everyone from Diane Kruger to Scarlett Johannsson and even Charlize Theron and Nicole Kidman owned their scents with blonde locks.

I know I am going to get a comment that Keira Knightley is working her brunette hair in a Chanel fragrance campaign and Kristen Stewart was just unveiled by Balenciaga – but come on you know what I am getting at – a high percentage of fragrances seem to be fronted by blondes – I just found that interesting.

So who rocked their blonde locks better for you – Blake or Gwyneth?

Met Gala 2012: All About The Prada Beauties

When I found out that this year’s Metropolitan Museum of Art’s exhibition would feature Prada I was excited to see who Miuccia Prada would dress for the Met Gala and she really didn’t disappoint. In her party, to celebrate the Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations, was the gorgeous Diane Kruger, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Biel, Amber Valetta, Anna Wintour, Carey Mulligan, Eva Mendes, Kate Bosworth, Linda Evangelista, Mia Wasikowska, Grace Coddington, Milla Jovovich, and model Anne V.

It was hard to choose between Diane, Gwyneth, and Carey for my best dressed Prada beauty, but my obsession with Diane meant that she came out on top, closey followed by a very foxy Gwyneth.

Diane was once again flawless in her loose-fitted purple layered crepe silk chiffon Prada gown, which was finished off with a gorgeous ostrich feathered hemline. I loved that she paired her look with a Barbie pink embellished clutch, maybe an ode to Schiaparelli who loved to use shocking pink in her collections.

The best thing about Diane is you never know what she is going to wear as she really can work it all *yes I love her a little too much!!!*.

Just for her paillette-embroidered patch pockets, Gwyneth nearly took top spot in the Prada beauties, as she worked a gorgeous short steel blue halter neck dress, showing off her amazing legs. Finishing off her look were embellished Prada peep-toe heels, hooped earrings, and an exquisite centre-parted bun.

Ever since Gwyneth wore Tom Ford to the Oscars I have been super excited to see what she will wear next and last night she rocked this sexy Prada gown to the max. I am loving her confidence lately. Simply gorgeous.

It’s a tough list when this incredible two-tone gold and silver halter made of shiny paillettes that co-chairwoman Carey Mulligan wore only makes third spot, but this is testament to the exquisite designs from Prada, each one completely different and each one as fabulous as the next.

This is the best I have ever seen Carey, married life obviously agrees with her as she was glowing last night on the red carpet.

Coming in fourth and five, respectively, are Eva Mendes and Mia Wasikowska. Eva’s tangerine orange gown complements her skintone brilliantly, and I love the peplum detailing as well as the embellishments to the bodice, she really is stunning.

Mia gets in my top five ahead of Kate Bosworth in that amazing ostrich feathered mini-dress mainly because I loved the embellished collar and waist detailing of Mia’s Prada dress, as well as the rich raspberry colour.

What do you think of my top five Prada beauties? Should I have included Kate Bosworth, Anna Wintour, Milla Jovovich, Jessica Biel, or Linda Evangelista??? Leave me a comment below.

84th Oscars: Trends – Whites, Nude Tones and Red Hues

Whereas the Golden Globes were a little bit bridal with its white and nude trends, last night’s 84th Academy Awards went with the white theme again but this time the designs were more bold in design from my best dressed, Gwyneth Paltrow in a gorgeous sleek all-white Tom Ford gown with a matching floor-length cape, to intricate textured and iridescent gowns including Milla Jovovich’s Elie Saab one-shoulder, and Rooney Mara in Givenchy Couture.

As well as whites, there were a lot of shimmering nude tones as well, from Cameron Diaz’s demure Gucci gown with its metallic beaded chiffon train, to Jennifer Lopez’s crystal beaded Zuhair Murad dress, and even Kristen Wiig went all romantic in her gorgeous J Mendel gown with a pleated layered skirt

I didn’t think there was much colour on the red carpet, granted Meryl Streep and George Clooney’s girlfriend went with gold, but it was the red hues that really stood out for me. My favourite of the bunch has to be Michelle Williams’ ‘burnt orange’ Louis Vuitton, the retro feel of this 50’s inspired gown was just perfectly matched with her flawless hair and make-up and I just loved the peplum detailing.

Joining Michelle matching the red carpet were Natalie Portman looking fabulous in vintage Christian Dior, which kind of made up for all the controversy of not wearing Dior last year; and even with Emma Stone’s deja vu moment of Nicole Kidman’s classic Oscar look from 2007, I still loved her scarlet couture gown by Giambattista Valli.

This was one of the most demure red carpets at the Oscars I have seen in a long while, there were no outright awful outfits – that doesn’t mean that there weren’t some I didn’t like, but there weren’t as many standout gowns as I would have liked.

I kind of don’t think other than Gwynnies cape crusader look there were any others that I would remember in a couple of years, unlike when Michelle Williams wore Vera Wang in 2006, or when Julia Roberts went with Valentino in 2001, or how about that gorgeous Elie Saab number that Halle Berry shined in for her Oscar-winning moment in 2002, and one of my favourite looks has to be Cameron Diaz’s bejewelled princess Oscar de la Renta look in 2010, a designer that I totally missed last night on the red carpet.

What did you think of last night’s Oscar red carpet? Let me know who your favourite was.
